I thought the same thing but you have to go with your closer with a 3 run lead and bring him in at the start of the inning. Kimbrel was just rusty from not pitching much lately.

How is it dumb to pinch hit for a weak hitter, with a better hitter, with a chance to get an ever important insurance run in a playoff game, when you have an equally as good defensive catcher that can come into the game after pinch hitting?

Now that the game is over, did you count the number of wild pitches Vazquez prevented in the 9th?

Gotta say, the defense this series was pretty damn. Vazquez and Leon were great behind the play, outfield was as always good, Holt was good last night at 2B. It definitely makes pitching easier.

I didn't say he was dumb.. and Leon is equally as good as Vaz at blocking pitches,if not better..

I would assume Sale would start Thursday still, would he be less likely to go further in game though? Id assume yes.

It always scares me when we line up one inning a pitcher, even if the guy throws 6 pitches and is superb. I suspect that one of these relievers just won't have it. K's performance tonite couldn't have been more goddam stress-inducing. It makes it hard to even get really into this victory. He put everyone's else's fine work on the line.
