According to reports, the Yankees want to trade Stanton. It probably won't happen, though, unless the Yankees kick in a lot of money.

Stanton also has a no-trade, meaning that the Dodgers might be the only destination that Stanton would accept. The Yankees are most likely stuck with Stanton.

Whoa. This is interesting.

Edit: it's from Cafardo though. A more credible source is needed, methinks.

I would certainly expect the Yankees to do whatever they feel is necessary to overtake the Sox. The addition of Paxton is a good start in that direction. There is no disputing that.

Actually the Yankees appear to be unwilling to do “whatever it takes.” If they were to do whatever it takes - like Dombrowski does - that farm system would be a lot emptier and that rotation and bullpen a lot more full.

Cashman might try to go all in, but sometimes he has Cherington’s Disease and doesn’t want to part with prospects. It may or may not work out in the long run for NY, but it is tougher to compete with Boston in 2019 if he sticks to this half-measures approach...

Not really true at all. Cashman is about value. He’s not afraid to deal his prospects. He’s also not afraid to hold onto them. He had an edict going into last season to get under the cap. This year, there is an expectation that we’ll jump that cap although we really don’t know what the plans are. I can definitely say he doesn’t have “Cherington disease”. Cherington did get a title out of sheer luck, but he never knew when to deal his prospects. Cash has a pretty good record of moving players who are overhyped and keeping players who end up being good. When was the last time he moved a player and they ended up being better than the return?

I've been following the NYY Fan Forum for a while now. A bunch of them are convinced Hal has become obsessed with staying under the cap. This offseason will certainly tell the tale on that idea.

I doubt they stay under after just resetting this year, but stranger things have happened.

If we can upgrade the rotation further, add an arm to the pen and stabilize the infield and stay under, then fine. But it ain’t gonna happen.

Also, on Stanton, I could absolutely see us move him to LA. We wouldn’t haven’t to eat much either. While he is due a lot, remember, on the books it’s $22 mil AAV, which is fine for the Dodgers

Mariners reached out to the Yanks and Mets about taking on Cano. They’d have to take back Ellsbury plus kick in at least $20 mil total to get the deal down to $10 mil AAV

I'm not thrilled about Cano, but if it means we get rid of Ellsbury, go for it!!

The Yanks claimed Parker Bridwell and designated Torreyes for assignment. Torreyes was a fan favorite who could at the very least make contact and fake it all over the infield. He’ll surface somewhere.

Bridwell is a JAG who had a good 2017 and was injured for 2018.

This disappoints me.

The people that are being cut out probably need the money a lot more than the players do.

OTOH, Brian Johnson used his share to pay off his dad's mortgage. Well done.

this embarrassing, all the overpaid players get their share and most of the people who travels with them and do all the prepping work got less money

Disgusting

It’s crazy that the franchise sets aside the money yet the players decide who gets it? It should be an automatic.

Ellsbury and Cessa for Cano, Diaz, and $15 million?(5 million in each of Cano last 3 years.

The Mariners want his contract gone and are willing to add a talent like Diaz to get it done. If the Yanks actually want to make this move, they’d have to eat all of Cano’s deal. Diaz is a superlative talent under cheap control for 4 more years. Heck, he’s pre arb for one more. We’d either have to pay in prospects to get the M’s to chip money in, or have to pay in cash. I’d pass to be honest, and just sign Murphy if we are looking for LH punch at an older age. No need to pay Cano for 5 more years

It is chump change for the Yankee players. If they had distributed another 15 shares, it would have cost the millionaires only $12k each.

Exactly, this is just selfish or maybe they just didn't think it was that big o a deal

Either way, this is wrong

Toe was traded today for cash or PTBNL. Go luck with the Cubs, I honestly really liked him. He always came to play and could sit a long time and play a game going 2 for 4. Always seemed to be getting a base hit.

The problem is that after two years our young stars start getting expensive, Judge, Sevvy, Sanchez, etc.

Far more money will need to be involved for Cashman to buy on this.

Not sure why anyone would take in $120mill just to get Díaz, who will start making money himself one day as well. The Yankees could go sign Kimbrel and save $50mill+ instead...

I agree with you, but getting rid of Ellsbury is a big motivation

It would have made sense for ellsbury as he’s from the Pacific NW. But the Mets have decided to just be the dumbest franchise in sports and throw two first round picks and a high velocity kid in Bautista to Seattle. Yes, they’re dumping Swarzak and Bruce, but taking on the Cano contract with Diaz is a lot to take on when you’re giving up big talent

Makes you start to wonder who you (or we) can trade to the Mets for something valuable.

Honestly the only bad contact on our books is Ellsbury and its not horrible. We have insurance on him, but I would like to dump him off obviously, but packaging him with anything valuable. I'd deal him off with like an Acevedo and Cessa and take on Todd Frazier.

It's been horrible since day one- insurance or not.

I'd trade Ellsbury for the Toddfather in a second, even if we have to include 1 minor piece to get it done

I'm not saying thats a reasonable deal for the mets, but im just saying im not going to package Ells with Florial to get rid of his money
