Never too early to start. Heyman reporting Machado wants to sign with the Yankees in the offseason, but will only play 3b “under the right circumstances”. The assumption is Machado would play 3b and Andujar would move to 1b.

There are only a few teams that have the ability to sign this punk-ass.

He should keep his f***ing pie hole shut.

Right cash, right place. We’re under the cap and have a ton of cash coming off the books. Someone big will come out way

Absolutely. I doubt that anything the Chollo says will dissuade Cash from signing him.

I just think it is stupid and in bad taste for the idiot to be saying such things.

Do you believe that the Yankees will grab both Machollo and the punk in Washington?

I agree completely.

Sorry, but this doesn't sound like a team player to me. How about "I will play wherever the team needs me to play". This idea about only playing 3B under the 'right circumstances' sounds a little too 'me first'.

It is, but it’s also free agency. He can choose where he wants to go based on a multitude of factors. Let’s put it this way, if SD is the highest bidder, he’s gonna require he plays SS. If the team he’s on is gonna suck, he might as well play where he wants to. If the Yanks are the highest bidder, then you’re talking about joining a high 90-100 win team. You play where they tell you. Either way, I think the decision between Harper and Machado will be very interesting. I think both at their best, the better offensive player is Harper. At his best, he’s a triple crown candidate, but he also gets hurt more and can get in his own head offensively. In terms of what the club needs offensively, Harper fits that mold better as well. We’ve become very RH dominant. Judge, Stanton, Sanchez, Andujar, Torres. With the lack of development of Bird, we’ve been playing Voit at 1b. Our only LH hitters are Hicks (switch) and Gardner, and Gardy likely won’t be there next year. Add in Harper and you balance the lineup, plus seeing him hit in NY 81 games a year would be really intriguing. But Machado adds defensive versatility. The guy can play all 4 infield positions and can play 3b at a gold glove level. I’m sure he could convert to the OF eventually too. I’m torn on who to add.

I think you're well aware that we reached on Ellsbury. We don't have that problem now. We have a great team as it is. We can afford to go for top tier talent

For what you paid Ellsbury, I am pretty sure Cashman thought he was "top tier," even though many of us knew otherwise.

Exactly. I think Cash thought he was getting at the very least a disruptive .300 hitter with 30-50 steals. He didn't know he was getting Johnny Damon without the power at the end of his NYY tenure. Just a bad move. Thankfully, it's over after 2020. By that point, his $22 mil and Tanaka's $22 mil will be off the books just when we will need some cash to re-sign some guys.

I get that: my hope is that Cashman repeats his mistake x 4.

It's not easy guessing right on mega free agents. Ben's HRam and Pablo signings did him in.

There are the guys who were good and not great. That was Pablo and HanRam. If you look in the ledger, I was ecstatic you guys got Pablo. He was declining when signed. That being said, we have some generational talents in this market and possibly the best pitcher in baseball as well. I’d feel better throwing big cash at those guys rather than the mid level guys for slightly less

hahahaha. the hammer has become the nail.

"wait until next year!!!!!!"

Last I checked were both headed to the playoffs. I’ll file this one away for fun later.

I only posted this thread after Heyman’s update

Yanks in on Corbin. His numbers in a hitters park were incredible. He’s a lefty, which also suits our stadium well. His numbers were insane in a contract year. His K rate was over 11 per 9, his walk rate was down to nearly 2.1 per 9. His BABIP was right at .302. What he did more than just the K’s and walks, was limit the dingers. His K rate was a touch under 0.7 per 9, which cut his prior year’s bombs allowed almost in half. He did it with decreasing velocity (down 1.5mph from the year before) and by nearly scrapping his change entirely for a curveball as his third pitch. His LD percentage went up, his infield pop up percentage dropped, but he got his HR/FB rate to drop almost 4%. He also threw his fastball less than half the time for the first time in his career. The crazy thing is, his solid 3.15 ERA was way over his sparkling 2.5 or so xFIP. I’m wondering if he started throwing a sinker predominantly instead of a 4 seamer, which would explain the drop in homers, although doesn’t explain the drop in GB%. Either way, a guy who was unlucky in terms of ERA and utterly dominant in terms of peripherals who is only 29 year old. He’s also from NY. He sounds like a good choice

Big rumors day today.

We will start with the first of the day. Boone admitted that Luke Voit grabbed the job and its effectively his to lose. While it seems obvious, Voit's 39 game sample size isn't enough to lock him in at 1b without someone backing him. This is telling. It also means that Andujar is available for a top notch starter. I think this is a cryptic way of letting it be known that Miggy might be dealt, we could get Machado and the grand plan rolls from there. Or maybe I am getting ahead of myself, whatever

Didi having TJS has its own thread.

The final news of the day is what appeared the most obvious. Sonny Gray will be traded this offseason. Now, most people would probably look at Gray and say he sucks. But look a little deeper. Sonny Gray is a soon to be 29 yr old former ace. He can be had on a reasonable 1 yr deal, probably in the $10 mil range. Yes, he flamed out in NY, but when he pitched on the road, he was absolutely filthy. 7-5 3.17ERA 3.55K/BB 9.9K/9IP. The guy still has his velocity per fangraphs. He is going to fetch a pretty penny on the open market. The team I think that will land him is Milwaukee. They have a void in the starter's department and their best pitcher is coming off of shoulder surgery (Nelson). They need starters in the worst way. I could also see a 3 way deal with Gray going somewhere and us using those pieces and maybe someone like Andujar or Sheffield to get a DeGrom

Voit stinks. He'll be a .240 hitter with some pop and an iron glove. He's a modern Shane Spencer.

You didn't mention CC's knee surgery.

I'm starting to think I'd love to see the Yanks sign Machado or Harper. It's not hard to picture either of them imploding in NYC.

We saw what happened to Stanton this year. He had an OK season, a little below expectations but not totally out of line. But by the end of the season he was being roasted by a lot of the loyal fans.

The smart play for the Yanks would be to go pitching, pitching, pitching.

Good. I hope one of them do come to us. How do you see them imploding? I think that’s more wishful thinking. Neither of them are in their prime yet, which is crazy. I’d love to have either, I’d just be concerned with the commitment and if it sets us up for another 2013-2016 type run of mediocrity

I think they're both on the punky side and may not handle the heat in NYC very well.

But yeah there's some biased thinking involved, I won't try to ******** you about that.
