What's wrong with having an open spot on the 40 man? It means we can make a waiver trade at the deadline, or even after, without sending a man on our 40 back.

We might just add a player who will be rule 5 this winter and save the hassle, although we have so many free agents-to-be, I doubt we get squeezed in that area.

Nobody we add now will be on a playoff roster.

you mean practically or statutorily? We can still add guys and have them be playoff eligible.

There's no way adding Chavis, Lakins, Phillips or whoever, will ever make our playoff roster.

The decision should not be made with the playoffs in mind.

Add who can help most in September or who can save a rule 5 issue this winter.

Probably not - but considering there could (should) be an extra position player slot available ... that said, let's see if there is a trade left before the real deadline

Chavis couldn't anyway because of the PED suspension. Phillips could help for the playoffs in case Kinsler gets hurt again. Dude's been raking at Pawtucket, I could see him fighting Nunez for a bench spot

That is more likely.

We could also go with 3 catchers, so we can PH for them once or twice a game.

Let's say Lakins goes to the pen and is lights out in September. Isn't that a guy you'd consider having on your postseason roster?

This could happen, happened to the Cards, with Rosenthal.

I say we open up another space by giving Pom his walking papers. He can go hang out and act disinterested with Hanley, wherever he is.

His ERA has gone down since being pushed to the pen. He could be good as a LOOGY guy. IDK.

Probably not, unless there is an injury.

Are you saying that's who you want added?

Swihart is just not a Catcher, plays multiple Positions, which is valuable in the Play-offs. Also Switch hitting makes him a valuable asset.

I guess Sean McAdam just asked about Vazquez in Pre-Game Press Conference, and Cora said, we'll see. I am very comfortable in the Catcher situation with Leon and Swihart.

If Vaz is healthy, I am thinking the Sox may go with 3 catchers. Swihart can play other positions as well, and Cora once referred to Swihart as his pinch runner in a Dave Roberts type situation.

With 3 catchers we can also PH for our weakest hitting position... catcher... twice in a game, if needed.

I'll go with Lakins, the Red Sox are obviously desperate for bullpen help. Alternatively, maybe Shawaryn will be the guy added to the roster with the idea of using Shawaryn as a relief pitcher.

Has Cora shown the propensity to do that tho?

I believe Shawaryn's stuff is a little underwhelming. Lakins is probably the best bet.

He might not do it, but he did have the chance since we did play a huge bulk of the season with Vazquez, Leon and Swihart all on the roster...

So he doesn't have the propensity to do it then?

Lakins 212 innings 89 BB's, pretty high in his career. 200 K's, I guess OK, not a real Strikeout Pitcher. He has repeated each season in the same League year before. Reading his College Career, he was nothing really special. Where are we getting all this real good feeling about him.

Bring him up in Sept. and just see.

Anybody see him in Portland in last 2 years? I missed him this year. Only has 13 innings in Triple AAA.

If we add Lakins, we'd drop someone else.

With so many days off in the playoffs, and several pitchers coming off rehab soon, I doubt we'll need another pitcher for the playoffs.
