Ya gotta feel badly for whomever Machado gets traded for.

I'd need to take a long cry shower just to feel clean if we aquired him. And then try not to gag while he raked the rest of the season, but would have like the winning. Lose lose situation, hope he goes to the NL and we never have to see him again.

They will play the lousy orioles in Baltimore. Does that team ever try to win games? We get a rangers team that’s not all that bad at home.

We've already played the Orioles 10 times and are 9-1, it is clear they suck, both the Sox and Yankees play them the same amount of times, I don't get the complaining all the time when the Yankees play a s***** team.

Not really. Whoever goes to BAL is gonna get lots of playing time

Baltimore is a great place to play baseball right now...if you like losing.

Minor is pitching much better in last Month and Half for Texas, after that, almost facing KC again. We miss Hamels. Staff pitches better on the road then at home, 3.80 era on the road, 5.32 at home. Edited by OH FOY!

An error is an error, but of Dever's 18 errors this year it would be interesting to know how many were fielding and how many were throwing errors.

Ten of his errors are fielding and 8 are throwing. More importantly, Devers is now at -9 in defensive runs saved and -4.5 in UZR/150. The good news is, Devers has good range.

"KC has the lead, 2-1" says OB. If I didn't feel like we could beat this team coming out of a bar on a bender I would be puking my guts up.

There are certain games where the opponent takes the lead, and I don't have much confidence that the Sox can come back. This wasn't one of them.

I kind of feel sorry for the Royals, as I did for the Nats when we were whooping up on them. LOL

Maybe leaving him was right. LOL

LOL I, too, was of the opinion that Cora should have pulled Porcello at that point, but what do I know?

Porcello worked his way out of it and ended up having a pretty good pitching line.

Kudos to Cora and Porcello for knowing what they're doing.

I like to think that I have seen some improvement in his D this year.

I expect that he will become a solid 3rd baseman.

Not real sure of his range.

From a stats point of view, because I know how much you love them, Devers' range is fine (+1.4). His negative defensive ratings come from his errors (-4) and from turning double plays (-0.5).

I completely agree that he will become a solid 3rd baseman.

I did not consult stats to make my post. Big surprise there!:P

I just see limited lateral range with my eyes.

And the fact that Dever's body is similar to Patrick's in Sponge Bob concerns me somewhat.

How many unearned runs have scored because of Devers errors? Stats with the word Run in it. You play Baseball to score and prevent Runs. Games actually lost, because of his errors.

He needs to work on his footwork on throwing. Not impossible thing to do.

Tonight will be his 146 Major League Game. Lets get back to this 300 games from now. He'll be 24 years old.

Defensive Runs Saved = -9

According to that stat, Devers has cost us one game defensively.

Thanks.

What he needs to improve is that .239 avg. in Fenway. He should be clocking that wall.

How many games has he won Offensively? Game winning hit, RBI, go ahead run.

Don't want to get too much into this we just need patience.

He drove in the only run in our second game of the season, a 1-0 win vs. Tampa.

There, I found one, that's as far as I'm looking. :)

JBJ is a -8.2 oWAR right now and has a lower fWAR than Devers.

The implication there is that if one had to choose between Devers and JBJ right now they should choose Devers. I ain't buyin' it.

The fact that JBJ has a lower fWAR than Devers only points out the shortcomings of fWAR.

Your eye test must really struggle when JBJ is at bat.

Then that makes him a zero win player.

Works for me!

Not a bit. I recognize his shortcomings - or at least what his shortcoming was until about a month ago. But I also recognize the defense he brings to the game.

I have trouble believing that we spend all this time disparaging the player with the highest defensive fWAR on the team. It says a lot about how some of us view the importance of defense.

Meh. Most days I think you guys over-rate defense. However, I back Cora's decisions on stuff like this, and he is sticking with JBJ. Bad as his hitting is, he has been unable to prevent the Sox from building the best offensive machine in MLB.
