I'd prefer to live in a New England (Maine) with 4 seasons of summer.[/b]

Wouldn't we all? But if it were like that we'd be so overrun with flatlanders that Maine would be unlivable.

The wife and I are at the Crockett hotel right freakin now. I guess that explains all those waist high holes in bathroom stalls?

Hmm.. I see to have gotten a bit behind in this thread, probably because I had to clean up the coffee I spit all over my keyboard. I hope this thing still works when it dries out. :D

We've found it very difficult to make very close friends here in Texas.

My wife is from Mexico and has friends from work but nothing really close or special.

We've become very close friends to the parents of our daughter's boyfriend, which is a blessing. Our daughter and her boyfriend started dating in 7th grade, first love for both, and are about to finish up at A & M next year. Wow, right?

So, Moon, you and SoxHop are a couple of Mainiacs who ended up in the Lone Star State. What are the odds that tragedy would happen to two people from the same game thread?

My sister was born in Texas and my parents and all five siblings and I have at different times and locations lived there. None of us still alive intend to go back. Basically, too hot. When I visit Houston, I see they have mastered the art and science of staying indoors in the summer (6 months of it) the same way Canadians have learned to do so in the winter. Nevertheless, it is beyond question a very important state: 2d most electoral votes; 2d largest in population and in size; 1st in emitting greenhouse gases; several big cities which all seem to be growing; but also lots of small towns and large ranches; by far the longest border with Mexico.

Last night and tonight shows clearly why the WC as opposed to the AL East winner is such a dangerous coin flip. Who shows up on that one day ?

You're another one I tend to disagree with, but not this time. Dead on. I like the coin flip metaphor especially because it underscores the simple arithmetic fact that right now the two most likely wild card teams are the Yankees, who are winning 66% of their games, and the Mariners who are winning 63% of theirs. That's miniscule. Throw in the Sox at 67% and the Astros at 65%, and all four teams are bunched closely together in terms of probability of winning a game.

We need Sale to be an ace and a stopper tonight.

I have confidence in our offense to come through.

Let's do this!

Last night's game is what I'm talking about!

Devers shut the crowd up in the first inning, and Sale kept them shut up for the remainder of the game.

Let's go!

Tonight I think Severino has the edge over Price: his 4.5 WAR is double Price's 2.2. He split his two starts vs. the Sox, but he also has a better bullpen backing him up.

That said, I still like the Sox chances because they hit Grey, a righty who pitches a little like Severino and not at all like Sabathia, last night, because they have generally hit righties well this year, and because two lefty bats, Devers and JBJ, seem to be coming around. And Price pitches a whole lot more like Sale than ERod.

Cora can make three lineup changes tonight: Pearce for Moreland, Holt for Nunez, Vazquez for Price. I see him going with Vazquez, maybe with Holt, and not with Pearce. Vazquez has caught Price a lot. Holt and Moreland are lefty bats vs. righty Severino.

Thus: Betts; Beni; JDM; Moreland; Bogie; Devers; Holt; Vazquez; JBJ

But I won't be surprised if Nunez is back tonight playing 2B and batting 7th. Cora likes Nunez.

Severino is still young, has some inconsistencies. When he's on were in for a long night. Every baserunner, and run will be important. Now this is a game where Defense will be huge, and smart situational hitting, could be the difference.

That's if Price is on too. He needs to step up tonight, and show everybody he's still a force.

Last 10 games by Severino, Yanks 9-1.

Nunez looked awful last night. I had an excellent vantage point to see right handed hitters. Those balls that he wasn't late on he just flailed at. Not only didn't he have a good AB last night, he didn't have one good swing.

Yeah he really looked hapless.

The grand salami did shut up the crowd and Bradley's catch finished them off. In the first inning with 2 outs, this dope in an ARod jersey about 4 rows in front of me started with the standing nonsense with 2 strikes and 2 outs. He did it when JD was up and then he did it when Moreland went to 2 strikes. It was hot as blazes, and all i could think was if this stupidity caught on, I would have heat exhaustion from standing all game to see the hitter. After Devers grand slam, there was no more standing.

BTW, that stupid standing with 2 strikes and 2 outs phenomena started at Yankee Stadium in a game when Guidry k'd 19. I think they were Angels. It was annoying then, and it is still annoying.

Generally annoying as hell, but pretty sweet when it blows up in Yankee fans' faces!

More reasons to love JD's game. Last night, he only put 1 home run type swing on a ball, but still managed to 3 hits and 3 RBI. The only out that he made was on hit HR swing. Also, that first inning never happens if he isn't busting it down the line on his ground ball. He busted it hard down the line. It was extremely hot last night. For the National Anthem, each team sent out their coaches and maybe 2 or 3 players. Everyone else stayed in the air conditioned clubhouse.

It was a very pleasant night at Yankee Stadium. It was the most fun that I have had at Yankee Stadium since Pedro out-dueled Rocket on a Sunday night in May. I think that was 1999. It could have been 2000.

That first inning AB was a classic. And you're right, he hustles. He does everything the way you're supposed to.

The game was over with Devers grand slam. Like a first round knockout. Actually , I thought it was over when I first saw the look on Sonny Gray's face. Looked like a nervous little boy going on his first date. Cashman will rue that deal.

Maybe Cashman can find the next Sonny Gray this deadline.

Glad to be a member of your "disagreement" team, and here's another. Grew up originally in MA and RI, moved to Dallas for 18 years , and would return to Texas in a heartbeat, where I had no trouble making friends. Living in lunatic CA only due to family reasons as a concession to happy wife-happy life. Let's just agree to friendly disagree on some baseball opinions, not all. You do have some great stats.

"Dope in an ARod jersey" is kind of redundant, no?

What I really hate is the 300 curtain calls they have during a game. I can understand a curtain call for a really special moment, but Yankees fans take it to a whole new level.

Glad you had a great game to enjoy.
