E-Rod seems to shine against the Yanks. 4-2 2.70 era against them. Yanks 18-5 this year against LH Starters. Had good game this year and outstanding game at the Stadium last year by E-Rod. Liking a win tonight. Edited by OH FOY!

Just hope Sabbathia doesn't pitch like last year against us, he owned us. 4-0 with a 1.04 era.

Those clown pants are a distraction to the batters. It's difficult to hit when you're laughing.

Let’s see, a relatively soft tossing lefty who changes speeds and generally has good control. What could possibly go wrong?

Now you are just piling on us. Thats not fair!!!

Kimbrel can't possibly be available for this one.

Nor Kelly, so Hembree and Barnes are your studs with neither Johnson nor Velazquez available for long relief after 5 inning E-rod gives you his best shot. But at the end of the season a win vs the Angels counts exactly as much as a win vs. the NYY crowd. Just not as enjoyable emotionally.

I'm just hoping we can split this 3 game series.

Here are the possibilities:

Sox go 0-3, 2 behind NY

Sox go 1-2, Dead tie for AL East, NY with 4 more games yet to play , probably worth 1 to 1 1/2 game gain.

Sox go 2-1, NY would be 2 up , Yankee's 4 games to play can only tie at best

Sox sweep'em at 3-0. NY 4 back and the 4 games don't close the gap.

Note---there is no way for the Sox to be 3 up after Sunday.

Conclusion, a sweep is the most effective way of flushing the Yankees into the Bronx sewer system. It would be epic.

Well a win vs NYY insured one more loss for them, while a win vs LAA does not.

Beating LAA is +.05 games.

Beating NYY is +1.0 games, but more importnatly, it's a 2.0 game swing with a win vs a loss, where as a win vs a loss vs LAA is just a 1 game swing in the standings.

I just read that CC is 11-0 with something like a 2.5 ERA in regular season starts following a Yankees loss.

Law of averages is on our side.

The good news for us is that even if we get swept, we'll only be 2 games back. I don't see a sweep happening either way. Hopefully, we take the series.

WIN!!!

Wow, that was a bit of shocker, but against the lefty, it looks good to me.

Nice to have Moreland for PH duty.

Cora: "Welcome to the team, Steve. Oh, by the way, you're batting clean-up tonight."

Pearce: "Where's the mens' room?"

What is it if you split a 3 game series, lol ?

Key to destroying CC is lay off any breaking stuff and sit on his fastball that sits at 89 to 91.The book is well out now on CC .

What makes him tough is that he can really hit his spots. You're not going to see many pitches in the middle of the plate.

Pearce's stats in 2018 with Toronto:

79 AB'S; 4 HR's; .291BA; .868OPS.

So what I expect playing for Boston at Fenway next 79 A B . 11 HR ....285 ave ....920 OPS ....I'm kidding 8 homers will be fine .

Sabathia is definitely effective when he is hitting his spots and mixing up his pitches.

Pearce at cleanup can't be much worse than Moreland at cleanup and allows everyone else to stay in their usual spot. Also limits lefty bats to three: Beni, Devers, and JBJ.

Agree with others that tonight the bullpen could be problem, especially because Kimbrel just closed 2 straight and needed at total of 47 pitches. Kelly got smacked around last night, so much so I wondered if he was telegraphing his pitches. So it's probably up to Barnes, Hembree, Workman, and Velazquez. Even without that, I would rate the Yankees bullpen as better.

Tough series, no doubt. Getting Pearce was/is just in time. Maybe he can help tonight against Sabathia because the next two are righties--Grey and Severino.
