I don't think even our suspect medical staff would let him take swings with a torn rib cartilage.

Speaking of our medical and training staff...no surprise that JDM has a stiff back. With our crack medical/training staff...there is always someone with a pull, strain, tear....

Yup. This is key.

I think from last night we can see that Beni, Xander and Moreland will have trouble picking up the slack, particularly when they were broken up with Holt interspersed. If you have a hot hitter among them, they can be pitched around since there is virtually no protection. The bottom of the order remains weak but there is little DD can do with his constraints.

I expect Beni and Xander to hit, but Moreland was appeared to be riding a hot streak of his own.

Meanwhile Mookie was supposed to play in a rehab game yesterday and didn't do it. He was supposed to return to the lineup today too. Looks like his injury is lasting longer than expected.

They never said he was going to go play a rehab game. It was under condition if his BP went well Mookie might go on a rehab game.

Thats what I heard. OB said it during the broadcast several times-that he was expected to play today but that he wanted one rehab game on Friday night. Obviously batting practice didn't go so well.

be nice to have him back in the lineup as our main threat is now just JDM. Would have been a sorry thing to waste another strong starting pitching performance.

000are scary. Anybody here remember Pete Reiser? Brooklyn Dodgers CF (sometimes RF when hobbling). durst year good fielder no power. Second year .347 in 137 games. Out of baseball for 4 years starting in 1943.

Pete best known (at the time) as the next Ty Cobb. Problem was he kept running into fences at the same speed as he stole 2nd Base!

Mookie has been on the shelf only a few times, but that's too many!

Pete Reisler? That name's not even familiar! I know you're not THAT MUCH older than I am so you must have a better memory!

I have no idea what's going on with Mookie and based on what I've heard from the Sox they don't either. Of course I also believe that what the Sox tells the fans about injuries has no basis in reality.

Sounds like they are treading water with Mookie while the news on Pedey is not positive. Mookie's injury is taking longer than they first indicated as likely so perhaps they really don't know what the problem is.

Mookie Betts is one of the great players that we have seen in a Red Sox uniform. To this point he has proven to be fairly durable as well. Going forward though what are we going to get? I would not rush to sign him up to a 10 year 290 to 300 million dollar contract. He is 5"9" and might weigh 175. He plays the game easily as hard as Pedroia in every way. He runs, he dives, and he literally rips that ball with that body. he never takes a play off. Bigger players expend less energy and less effort to get the job done. It is a simple fact of life. it is little wonder that he rips his abs evertime that he swings. he is a great player and personally if I was John Henry I would have no trouble signing him for whatever simply because to our owner the money really doesn't matter all that much. But for all of you folks that are truly concerned over the way Mr. Henry spends his loot, you might want to stutter just a bit before signing him up long term. Currently he is as good as there is. How about 5 years from now?

The old Dodger fans used to tell me about him. He won a batting title in 1941 and got the Dodgers to the World Series. Unfortunately, he ran into a lot of OF walls and knocked himself cold a few times, ruining his career. He was supposedly a great fielder as well and as fast as hell.

Sorry! No. that's supposed to be Peter Reiser. My macro D is getting worse by the day. Mad Max would be happy that I'm not "trolling" as much! Especially gloat-trolling which I like even more. No I am really worried bout Mookie. This day to day, everyday saying the same thing, but not in any lineup! What;s next, the 60-day! If so, it will be really tough to hang in thee with the Yankees.

Well no rehab scheduled for Mookie. He will travel with the team to Baltimore. This will take time now.

Are there reports on Mookie’s BP session?

Hence the Pistol Pete.

He went on the field this time for BP. Previously it was in the cage.

He also went through his entire pregame routine according to Cora.

My best guess is that it was the spring of 2013. Our old friend Jidge could tell us for sure since it was the last year he was there. It's hard to believe it's been five years.

Yes, and WW2 got in the way, also. He is in, I think, for the full 4 years!

I expect that's right. He was quite a guy! (re/VinScully. He and Gowdy the only announcers that didn't need either partners, color anylists, or even the TV!)

Okay I am somewhat confused by the way this injury is being described by people close to Mookie.

All along the Sox have refereed to this as an abdominal injury. Two days ago on live TV Papi told Eck and OB that he had spoken to Mookie the previous night and told him to be very careful about coming back from his Oblique injury.

So which is it?

why havent we fired our training staff yet? i'm almost fully serious. year after year of this nonsense. does that fall on DD or Cora?
Posted
Correct.

If that is the case, fine.

However the Sox continue to minimize the severity of the injury while Papi comes right out and says it in more serious than we realize.

The thing is, Slash, we only pay attention to our injuries. We don't compare ours to other teams.

100% true. i just need to blame someone. these muscle pulls/strains that cost games are frustrating as hell. and it seems the same story every year.

from all the stupid injuries that ellsbury used to get all the way through Betts missing minimum 3 weeks of a playoff season because of a "strain"....

pedroia back for 1.5 games and then gone again? it's ridiculous.....
