The players we have are just not good enough to win a ring ....Mookie and JD are amazing players no you build upon them Xander has come along way ....Devers is a year out but talented .....Benny is right there on the cusp ....we have a great core of players ....but the pitching ??? Nope it's weak ....Sale is weak he's our Ace ....Price who the hell knows right ? Erod is way to inconsistent.....Porcello again just not good enough ...so we have holes upon holes then the bullpen ? Kelly ? Barnes ? Johnson ? Those guys have had moments but they are never to be counted on .The team needs 2 starters and Two bullpen arms a catcher a mature 3B a healthy second baseman.....it's smoke and mirrors right now folks .Wildcard and out in the first round again ...rinse repeat .

They’re mentally weak. I don’t know what you do. They make the playoffs but they just don’t have killer instinct that old sawx teams used to have

I don't think I've ever thought of Xander as a guy who has it all invested.....This is hard to say ....There are a few of our better players who don't seem to mind losing .....I no not all players are going to scratch and claw for it but damn it seems like they don't give a rip like Pedey like Trot like schilling like Papi like our 13 team our 04 team ...Billy M man that guy hated losing ....Passion where the hell is it ? if Pedro gave up 4 those guys would go to war to win a game not only for themselfs but for Pedro . Too many cheesy hits by the stros tonight.

Too many solo blasts by us.

Tough loss.

Gotta win the next 2.

Well, I see the chief panicmeisters are out in all their glory tonight.

Is it time to DFA the whole club again?

No. They will make the playoffs no doubt but i hope someone eliminates the astros. This team matches up badly with them.

On paper pitching wise.... we should do well in the Playoffs..... AGAIN ON PAPER! We should have one of the best rotations in baseball. But we have been so damn inconsistent lately and I don’t understand. Second straight s*** start for Sale now. Price has actually been our most consistent pitcher the last 4 games he has played. Houston offensively is unreal so it’s not completely mind blowing. But on the other hand this is the teams we will be playing. Houston, Yankees, Guardians. Need to find a way to beat these good teams. It’s one thing to beat average teams and make playoffs. It’s another to beat great teams in the playoffs and make it to the World Series. I was worried about this series for good reason.

When your Ace plays two s*** games negative comments comes its natural. Makes people wonder what he will play like come playoffs against the top teams. I won’t lie...... I’m wondering a bit myself.

I'm sure 29 other teams would happily take our "weak" ace. Pitchers have bad starts. Sale is among the least of my concerns on this team, he'll be fine.

Pretty soon we get to start hearing about how tired Chris Sale looks and how much rest he is going to need in order for him to pitch well come playoff time. Skip a few starts or maybe go to a 6 or 7 man rotation. Not! He likely will never make everybody here happy but he is going to be fine as long as he is healthy.

Did someone just mention the "killer instinct" of the old Sox teams? I assume you must be under 30. But as long as the Sox are the best team in baseball, I don't care what kind of instinct they have.

Lol. Funniest thing I've seen on here in some time. It's definitely true though. Everyone needs to relax, like usual. I am a little concerned about Sale right about now, however. Two starts against two really good offenses, but still. He's due to face the White Sox next, so I expect a bounce back.

Don't you miss the grind out ABs? This team has stop doing that.

You mean like last year - when everyone was complaining about us not being aggressive enough and letting too many meatballs go by and not hitting enough HR's because of our outmoded patient approach? :P

I was gonna say the same thing. Calm, rational minds that don't overreact to two game losing streaks think alike.

Look up the word "fan," and see if you can find anything about calm and rational in there. It's actually a shortened form of fanatic.

I agree losing two games isn't the end of the world or the season, but most of us saw this series vs. the Astros as an indicator of how this year's Sox might fare in the postseason.

I was not that upset with the first game loss because with Pom starting I saw that game as a throwaway. But I expected better from Sale last night. In the first inning he needed 34 pitches, one of which was a WP that was costly. Pom can do the same thing except he takes a lot longer between pitches. As soon as the Sox scored a run to show this game could be competitive, Sale gave up 2 more runs and that to me was the ball game.

So, yes, just two games lost, but at the same time a clear sign the rotation isn't quite what we expected or need, especially with Mookie on the DL.

Two games to go in Houston with Price and then Porcello on the mound, but for me the goal now is to avoid being swept.

And this. The Yankees caught the Sox on May 8/9, but since then the Sox have held them off and came into this series leading the AL East with the best won-lost record in MLB. Now we're second in the AL East, and could easily fall to 2 or 3 behind the Yankees who are playing the Orioles.

Here's the hard truth. The Sox cannot go into a series against one of the very best teams in baseball without their best player and expect to win - or maybe even tie - the series. There's too much parity among the top teams to have that happen.

It's not the end of the world though. The Sox will still be a top-flight team when Mookie comes back and there are still 2/3 of the games to be played. In the meantime they are still competitive (or better) with most teams in the AL.

Lets see what Price really has today. Enough of the BS, pitch like an Ace, keep losing streaks short, that's what Aces do. Beat Verlander at home and turn your impressions around for the Sox Fans.

I put out a post saying that I was concerned about these last two starts from Sale. Two first place teams. Does he choke on the big stage?

You have to be concerned with sale when it comes to pitching in these big spots. The guy didn’t deliver yesterday. He needed to pitch like an ace and threw a dud of a game.

Another guy who stinks in the big spot pitches tonight for the Sox. Price needs to deliver

And again tomorrow with Porcello. We really do need these guys to step up in games like these.

Did you see some of the cheesy hits the Astros got last night? Bunt hits, infiled nibblers, Stike outs turned into 2 base wild pitches. Sale was fine last night. He could have easily gone 7 IP with 1 to 2 ERs with a tiny bit of luck.

You guys crack me up!

Porcello is going against Verlander. Verlander has been unbelievable this year. Even if Porcello gives an ace performance, this one looks like a loss, especially without Mookie. Houston is hard to beat in Houston. Theyre especially hard to beat when they line up their rotation the way they did against you. Your best shot was McCullers and Keuchel. You missed the opportunity vs McCullers and Keuchel misses you this time around

Pom left us with a 2 run deficit. We had a shot when we tie the game and needed a sac fly to give us a lead, but it went the Astros way. Sale vs Cole left us a 1 run down. We were not exactly overmatched as some made it out to be. We're playing short handed at the time being.

Posted
That is what I am saying. You need some breaks and most teams don't get them in Houston. Your best bet is to grind down their starter and feast on the pen. Without Betts and Pedey and with Devers struggling, you aren't able to get the starters out early and hence cannot ever seem to get on top

Isn’t Price pitching against Verlander?
