Speaking of defense, who would you pick as the better defensive RF'r? Dewey or Mookie?

Now that is a tough one. Guess I would have to go with Dewey in a photo finish but what the hell I'd take Freddie over JBJ all day.

At this point in this season, it's kind of hard to imagine anyone overrating Vazquez.

Let me rephrase: We vastly overestimated what his defense would be.

I just watched a replay of Mookie getting doubled off 2B and must say he didn't take much of a lead and was in fact hustling back to 2b on a close play. Schoop just made a terrific grab and flip to Machado. You want boneheaded--look at the 2 or 3 times last year when JBJ forgot how many outs there were when he was on base. The next two guys grounded out anyway. As for Bogie getting throw out, it was a hit and run and the pitch was in the dirt, but fielded cleanly with a good throw to 2b.

Our problem tonight is another horrible start by Pom and weak hitting against Cobb and his 7+ ERA going into this game.

Cobb is having a bad season, but he does have a decent track record over his career; he's better than he has showed this year.. He has usually pitched pretty well at Fenway.

Will the JBJ fan club please take note that tonight he has struck out twice on fastballs right down the middle.

I hate to say it but they are right back to where they were in 2014 with JBJ....allowing him to just prove to himself that he simply cannot work his way out of this. So does that mean we go though another 500 useless AB's again this year before we pull another intervention? He is in a bad place and the Sox seem to have unwittingly put themselves in a bad place with him.

JBJ got 2 center cut fastballs that he missed then a fastball on the inside corner and he couldn't hit it. It's one thing when a guy is throwing 98 and blows it by someone. Cobb is throwing 92 and JBJ cannot hit it

Good point. He has done so tonight. But six fastballs right down the middle and zero contact are on the hitter, not Cobb.

I call ******** on anybody who gives me a "small sample size" call with respect to JBJ.

And its not new. Its been that way since Sept of last year. He has lost confidence and if he has options, he needs to work out his problems elsewhere

Pure conjecture on my part but I would bet real money that they approached JBJ as delicately as they thought necessary as a new coaching staff with a player that is struggling and this is what they got!!! Classic JBJ

But he's so great in the outfield\.

Vaz in slomo there

That is absolutely astonishing that he barely made it to 3b from 1b on a clean double. Not a good baserunner, period. But of course he did make it all the way home from 3b on the single. There's that.

Gotta start pecking away....this is a winnable game. Its theOrioles after all

OK, ladies and gents, this guy here is the man of the hour because he called it.

Manley Ramirez, on the other hand, gets the booby prize.

Let's hear again from the advocates who believe that, with men on 1b and 3b with 1 out, the smart play by Manny was to strike out. The rally would still be alive if he had played it smart. And, yes, that was said on a game thread the other night.

Hanley rally killer....couldn't afford that. Just a sac fly is all we needed

That is classic Hanley. Shorten your swing and hit it to the outfield. No, doble play.
