I am still not convinced they are doing the right thing with Pom. Took Eck getting in the booth to say the same thing we have been saying for three starts. Pom is afraid to throw that four seam for a strike and you just cannot pitch that way, not for long.

At least to my eyes his FB has not gotten worse. It appears to have finally bottomed out.

I have been saying it since he came back and nobody wants to acknowledge it. His FB lost significant velocity and he can no longer sneak it by hitters. When he was sitting 92-93mph, his fastball up was just fast enough to sneak by a hitter looking for the curve. Now, if he goes up, hitters are either fouling it off or hammering it.

I really wonder if he likes playing baseball; not all players do.

It may be something he has done because he's been good at it (relatively speaking to the rest of us mortals)

Good point. He might have just got by on his athleticism and natural talent and right now doesn't want to fully commit to being a pro ball player. That's all conjecture. Thing is, is that he's been AWFUL. We need a change badly.

I would give Velasquez a chance and put Pomeranz in the pen

You know, he seemed to be coming around a little until that fingernail issue a couple starts back. Has sucked since.

Is it unfair of me to point out that our greatest ever centerfielder has had zero impact on the game even though lots of flies and drives have gone to the outfield. He also contributed nothing to last night's win. Nothing. The pitcher is 80% of the defense, and we are seeing that again tonight just as we did last night.

Pomeranz is a dumpster fire. He doesn't have the velocity to sneak the ball up anymore so all he has is that curveball and one pitch, pitchers don't do well in this league

He doesn't realize that. I hope the Orioles sign him so Betts can feast on these inviting middle in pitches.

Well, when he’s out there the pitchers don’t have to nibble around the k zone!

If I had to guess, the Sox were planning that Pom's arm would get stronger, FB would get better and if anything it has gone the other way. They have to figure this out. Just sending him back out there in his rotation spot does not appear to be working.

I just watched a replay of Mookie getting doubled off 2B and must say he didn't take much of a lead and was in fact hustling back to 2b on a close play. Schoop just made a terrific grab and flip to Machado. You want boneheaded--look at the 2 or 3 times last year when JBJ forgot how many outs there were when he was on base. The next two guys grounded out anyway. As for Bogie getting throw out, it was a hit and run and the pitch was in the dirt, but fielded cleanly with a good throw to 2b.

Our problem tonight is another horrible start by Pom and weak hitting against Cobb and his 7+ ERA going into this game.

Based on Pom's FB finally bottoming out, maybe he gets one more start because they will be kicking themselves something fierce if in fact it has bottomed out and is finally on the way back. But that is it! One more start and if its no better, time for a new plan.

Speaking of defense, who would you pick as the better defensive RF'r? Dewey or Mookie?
Very tough choice, but Dewey would get the edge because his arm was such a weapon. Players just didn't run on him.

You got me.

Leon makes that play everytime.

I think Leon is better, but I'm not so sure he gets that one cleanly. The problem is Pom, not the defense.

Dewey. He caught everything (as does Betts) and while Mookie has a good arm, Evans had a cannon. Teams simply stopped trying to take an exra base on him.

Pom was at least 95% to blame for sure.

Wright abused the O’s that inning.

Sort of abused vaz too. To be expected at this point I think. That pitch would have hit me right in the mug...just straight in the face. I wouldn't have touched it.

Dewey. Great glove AND an all time arm.

Limiting to defense I think it's hard to say. IMO Mookie covers more ground out there than Dewey did but Evans has/had a better arm. On a day-to-day basis (and leaving offense out of the equation) I think I'd take Mookie. A fielder had more chances to run down a ball than to showcase his arm. But either of them is fine with me.

Vaz is overrated tho

At this point in this season, it's kind of hard to imagine anyone overrating Vazquez.
