The hitting has been great but the real story: only 3 runs allowed the last 3 games, all 3 starters pitched 6+ innings. That'll be the key to our success, the starters not getting stomped after 3 innings.

Well, we leap frogged the sox and now lead baseball in runs and OPS. Cannot be too reliant on the offense, but it is nice to have. Huge start tomorrow from Gray. The guy has been an ace and an all star and is entering his prime. There is no reason for him to suck this bad. He will right the ship

Saw Andujar last year when he was with Trenton, I knew this kid is going to be something special. He doesn't strike out much either. Give him some more time in the Majors, he's your 3rd baseman of the future.

We've got Devers, you Andujar, this is going to be good for a long time.

 

It reminds me the comparison we had back in the days with Pedroia/Cano, both fine major league players. Let's see how this competition turns out

Andujar is the rare free swinger who makes solid contact. He also has ridiculous plate coverage. Reminds me of a Vlad type approach. Nose to toes and add 6 inches on each side of the plate and that’s what this kid can hit

 

I'm a little concerned about this, chances are he might be exposed if he keeps swinging like that. The reason those hitters are so rare is because the pitchers can attack them with pitches which are out of the zone and they normally will chase them, basically they make for themselves a bigger "strike zone"

He doesn't swing and miss much and typically he makes hard contact. He's not normal. You've got sluggers who hit mistakes and you have the high average hitters who use the whole field. There are very few guys who can hit good pitches or even balls out of the strike zone and drive them. Andujar can do that. A free swinger usually strikes out a ton. Andujar doesn't. He's a unicorn in that respect. He really is. Most high average hitters have incredible command of the strike zone. They usually have high BAs, but also high walk totals and low K's (think Altuve). Most power hitters have good command of the strike zone but swing and miss a lot. He is neither. This makes him very exciting to watch

It’s what Sterling calls him. We do own the twins. If we don’t pound their starters, we run them out and eat their pen alive. When the twins had been playoff contenders, their offense was typically the reason why and they haven’t had truly lockdown pitching. Yesterday, their starter shut us down. The good thing about this streak is that Stanton is starting to show signs of life and Sanchez is breaking out. If we can ride those guys for a bit as Judge and Didi invariably catch their breath, we should be good. I’m intrigued to see if Gray finds it. He’s a control pitcher who cannot seem to locate right now. He’s either out of the zone or in the middle of the zone. If he finds it, we will be running off many long win streaks with how our offense and pen are built
