Fortunately for most of you, Dombrowski seems to have placed a high level of concern on your intestinal health by not making any moves this off-season...

I will offer to wash that window (although I am inclined to agree with Dewey on Machado). Remember too that when one window closes another one opens.

Winters must suck at your house...

LOL.

Signing JD, Santana or Moustakas would be like a trunkload of Tums.

I appreciate everybody harping on the big bat theory, but pitching wins championships!

Really hoping dave takes a peak at Vargas (if his Medicals check out)

Still need a reliever - Zach dukes?

The San Diego #Padres have become clear-cut favorites to sign 1B Eric Hosmer after two face-to-face meetings with #Redsox still lurking

I'm okay with this.

I'd love to add a solid starter in addition to a bat, but I don't know if that's in the cards.

I do think we'll add a reliever before all is said and done.

The Cardinals acquisition of Ozuna would appear to enhance our chances of signing Martinez. Who else is a serious player for him - the Giants, Arizona?

The fact that we tried for Ozuna does indicate we were willing to modify our existing outfield which probably means trading JBJ. With Cora talking about batting Betts first and beni second, it doesn't sound like either of them would be moved. A wild thought is to move Betts to second, but that is not going to happen so I have to conclude JBJ was on the block.

What might have applied to Ozuna could also apply to JD Martinez, but he might better fit as DH instead of outfield. Big bucks and probably an extended negotiation period. Can we afford to wait with Boras making the rules? Here we are getting through the winter meetings and nothing done. I had hoped for more.

I'd like to think that moving JBJ was contingent on acquiring either Ozuna or Stanton.

More so for Ozuna I think.

Marlins wanted Pitching, probably JBJ was never on their minds, with Ozuna, and probably Stanton. Like JBJ but, Sox Fans are over-valuing him.

Other teams GM's are not bringing his name up a lot if at all, in Winter meetings. This is a sign for me, that he is not the value, that we think he is.

All these Reporters hear every little ******** rumor there is. Nothing on JBJ. Don't see anything.

One year of Machado, teams want to make deals. Probably best thing now, is keep JBJ, and keep phones on during season, maybe for better return, for needs on the Sox.

Being reflective for a moment.....

We're so spoiled. Every winter we go through the same process/mindset of what it will take to push us over the top. I sometimes have to wonder what it's like for fans of teams who see the Hot Stove time as a time to watch their good players get traded away for prospects - essentially throwing in the towel for the upcoming season and trying to build for the future. That's gotta suck.

Can the argument be made that due to their financial constraints some teams are nothing more than a feeder program for the teams with a big revenue stream?

Some GM's are more defense oriented than others. DD tried (unsuccessfully) to trade for JBJ and (successfully) trade for Iglesias - both players who are stronger defensively than offensively - when he was in Detroit. It may be that GM's with a like mind of DD feel that JBJ is untouchable in Boston so they don't even bother to make an offer.

I know that I'm a dinosaur in that I value defense as highly as offense and I'd like to see JBJ in CF for the foreseeable future, but that's just me.

You're right about us being spoiled.

As for feeder programs, that's what the poor Expos were for years before they moved to Washington.

Now I think things are better and just about every team has a shot.

But teams like us and the Yanks still have a hefty payroll advantage, that's for sure.

Unless he pulls a Steve Lyons, we shouldn't...

Speaking of Steve Lyons, I saw him on a NESN report from Orlando last night. TC was doing most of the talking but I thought it was interesting to see Psycho on NESN since he was suspended for spousal violence or something like that months ago.

I have no problem with him. But that is based on the assumption that he did not smack his wife.

The arresting officer wrote in the report that the girlfriend suffered injuries to her face.

Effffffffffffffffffffff NESN

Yeah I don't know the details but if that is the case I am surprised that NESN has him back particularly given the current climate.

we are very lucky. that said, the idea of some teams just being feeders (which i thought was true-ish in the 90s) is basically gone now. with revenue sharing and so forth, every team has a payroll they can win with. now the recent changes to the CBA to suppress amateur bonuses is very harmful to these teams. that part does threaten this.

Schwarber's batting average isn't due to bad luck. It's due to the shift...

Tons of players get shifted on. He's a power hitting fat Mark Bellhorn, except...at least Bellhorn could play defense and run a little bit. If he is hitting 3 or 4 in the lineup, I am not sure if we are better, or worse than last year. If he is your premier power option, youre screwed.

he is also 24 and has only 764 career plate appearances. it is easy to forgot given how much exposure he has gotten and how good the Cubs have been.

So, 1.5 years of service, with a .222BA/.329OB/.471SLG/.800OPS.

The .800 OPS makes him slightly above average in that category. Everything else he does is below average, or WAY below average. He literally can't play defense. Some players get away with it, but not ones with an .800 OPS.

I kept thinking the final package that landed GS was going to look light, but this is lighter than I expected.

It's a steal for the Yanks and very bad news for Boston.

We basically have to sign JD, now, and Bore-A$$ knows it.

We'll even need to do more than JD to stay even "on paper".

I am not sure this matters. Its not like there is a ton of news about his potential landing spots. I think the Redsox will have every opportunity to sign him, and I am not sure there is a better option for him out there. Plus, with the Yankees getting Stanton, there might be incentive to be part of the rivalry that looks like it will undoubtedly start to heat up again.

I do not see a huge market for JD. I think dave is smart to wait out Boras and not bid against himself.

For hosmer, we know the Padres like him and so does kc, but Boras needs a heavywright in the ring and again dave is being smart to drag thus out!

We shall see how this plays out.
