If there's going to be a cliff, might as well go out like Thelma and Louise.

I think we can remain highly competitive without trading away anymore top young players/prospects.

We should be able to spend more now that the tax is reset.

Asuaje is the only guy that could have really helped this team. He seems like a better version of Lin/Marrero/Holt. I'd still rather have an elite player than a bunch of pretty good ones.

This year only?

Margot couldn't have done better than Young? Probably much better.

If we are judging Guerra and others in hindsight, then don't we have to wait to judge this trade and Espi one, too?

I think Logan Allen might be the sleeper in this deal.

Yes, they should spend more. Will they? Who knows.

They've shown that they want Young as the 4th OF for better or worse. I think Margot would have been included in some other trade regardless.

Guerra stinks and was overhyped.

Logan Allen could be good, but is still far away.

I've told you guys before, our run differential points towards a much better team than the one we currently have

Unfortunately, this is true. You should be leading the division. I do not want to face you guys in the playoffs.

Magic Numbers:

Division - 9

Wild Card - 2

The Sox can clinch a playoff berth tonight with a win and an Angels loss. Not that it matters much. We all want the division.

The Guardians are 9-1 in their last 10, the Yankees 8-2, the Sox 7-3, and the Astros 7-3. Those are the likely ALDS teams and all seem to be playing well right now.

The Guardians have by far the best defense (runs against), then us, then the Yankees, then, comfortably last, the Astros.

Astros lead in offense (runs for),but close behind are the Yankees, the the Guardians, then us.

Yes, but the Astros starting pitching has changed for the better when compared to season record.

I had mused that Hanley might not make the playoffs due to some inscrutable injury. Last night took that doubt away as he was in the lineup and hit the ball well. So for post season there is little doubt of who are starting field players are and two catchers. add Hanley and Nunez and you have 11. That leaves 3 players from our remaining group. Will Hanley fill in at 1st against left handed pitchers? Who will we take to cover the outfield utility and who in the infield?

If the idea is to just use Hanley as DH, then Travis would make sense as a 1st base utility player. Nunez can play many infield utility positions but his defense is not the strongest. It appears that Marrero has eclipsed Lin as a utility infielder prospect. JF loves Holt, so do we take him as a versatile infield outfield player or do we go with a tru outfielder in Davis and have him available for pinch running? Lot to muse over.

There's no way JF goes without Holt. So... I'd rather have Nunez, Holt, and Davis than Travis, Holt, and Nunez. I'd like to see Davis get a little more playing time if possible before the season is over. Hanley can sub at 1B if there ever was a need i think.

Best Defense or best overall pitching?

Hanley says he is now using the resistance band for workout rather than using weights. Done right, resistance bands can enhance quick twitch muscles and are less likely to result in muscle injuries. Getting him healthy going into the post season would certainly be a plus.

I expect we go into the post season carrying 11 pitchers, due to breaks between games. If that assumption is correct we can have 14 field players. The regular field players, 2 catchers and Hanley and Nunez make 11 so we can have 3 beyond them. You pick them from Davis, Young, Holt, Marrero, Lin, Travis and Swihart. My guess is Holt as JF loves him. Holt could play outfield if needed. I would eliminate Young and Lin from the list so 2 of Marrero, Davis, Travis and Swihart. (I am guessing that Swihart could play outfield in a pinch). Really, I believe Swihart is very unlikely, so its 2 of the other three.

Holt, Davis, and Young (if Nunez is already included) for me.

Guardians are 1 game behind the Dodgers for the best record in Baseball. Month ago nobody thought (including myself), that anybody could catch the Dodgers. Last Month, Dodgers, are playing some of the worst baseball in the Majors.

I can see Marrero as a nice late inning defensive replacement for Devers, but I value speed on the base paths as well so having both Nunez & Davis are a must have for me. I don't see JF taking Marrero over Holt. Does anyone really?

No, but he should.

Little Deven has some pop too!

He's got better ISO numbers than Bogey, Vaz, Leon and Pedey!

He's tied for second on the team (with Nunez) with a 17.4% HR/FB ratio.

He leads the team in going the opposite direction by almost 10 points!

42 Marrero

33 Vaz

36 Devers

29 Beni

27 Leon

26 Moreland & Pedey

25 Bogey, JBJ and Nunez

I'd take Nunez & Lin over both.

Yes, he should. Agreed

If his only job is to be a late inning defensive sub for Devers or Nunez, it's worth the roster spot.

Are you promoting a heavy Post Season bunt-and-run strategy? ..Might work better than waiting for someone to hit a HR strategy

No. Holt and Marrero provide no more power or speed.

I hate bunting, even for the one or two scenarios it's called for, but I'd do it just enough to keep defenses honest.

Nunez and Davis for me, I want Vets, plus Right Handed Power for Fenway. Didn't Davis take Pomeranz deep last year in the Play-offs?
