It'll be locked when it's locked. My policy with the Yanks is to count them out the moment they're mathematically eliminated.

Sox only need one win and a Yanks loss.

Astros won't be starting Kuechel. McCullers has dealt with arm issues all year and only went 3 innings his last start. Morton, Peacock and TBD (prob McHugh who has also dealt with injuries this season) are the other projected starters.

That's good, but our starters have been a wee bit shaky too.

It's such a lock that I will renounce my Pedroia hating ways if it doesn't happen.

I can think of much better ways for your renunciation to come about.

If they win the WS and Pedroia plays very well, I'll never say boo about him again no matter what.

Since Guardians won season series against Houston, the lead for Cleveland is actually 2 games. Tie Guardians get Homefield.

Guardians playing now, 0-0 5th inning.

It's been a lock for about a week now. Today, I'd view it as a dead bolt lock.

That's the difference between you and me. A week ago I thought it was a lock. But going into last night's game, Estrada vs. Porcello with Betts and Nunez out, I thought the Yankees would close to 2 games with 4 to go and our 4 all against the Astros, who are playing well and in position to get the homefield advantage over the Guardians. The Yankees go against TB one more time, then the Jays.

Even now I worry some because Houston is still hot and our rotation is showing signs of weakness.

it's a shoebox bet we win the division. book it.

I take a size 36 shoe. Big box.

Fact is, if ERod cannot win tonight its going to be very very close. I am not counting on Fister winning; no one should. And being in the position of having to win the last two games is hardly comforting. Not counting on any more Yankee losses during the regular season; they are tough at home.

Even if we lost last night, I'd call it a lock. maybe not deadbolt lock but still a lock.

2 up with 4 to go are great odds.

Agreed, but you don't really want that after being 5 up with 7 to go...

No, but I sense a lot of Chicken Littles here.

This things been locked up for a long time. Relax.

It is not locked up. They could face a tie for first or the Yanks taking first very easily. Neither scenario is good for the post season consequences. I just hope Toronto keeps up their hot hitting to end the season.

I am relaxed. Talksox is pretty much the most relaxing part of my day.

Cluck, cluck. In this era of climate change, I even remain doubtful about the sky above us (to say nothing of the oceans).

I definitely like where we are and agree the Yankees would kill to be where we are. Our number is 2, which means we can win 1 of 4 and they can win 3 of 4 and we still win the AL East.

Still, the Astros just swept the Rangers, killing them in all 3 games-- in TX and have won 13 of their last 15. If they can sweep us, they can tie the Guardians if Cleveland only wins 3 of their next 4. And their 4 next starters, even without Verlander, our on our par or better than our 4. Plus these guys are hitting up a storm and lead MLB in runs with 845.

I think historical baseball statistics are excellent. Projections are a whole other story. It's been proven to the nth degree that nobody can predict s***.

Boom.

Right now, sadly, I rank the Sox potential playoff performance as inferior to the Yankees, Astros, and Guardians. Current performance shows our starting pitching to be slumping, and our hitting as spotty as it has been all season. Maybe they can beat the Twins in the Wild Card game, but that's about it. This team really played above its head this season but is looking weak at the moment.
