I think they need to issue a kazoo to OB and Gnomes....... it would have been the only thing that made this game better...

By the way, that miracle GIDP Boyer got in the top of the 6th after loading the bases? It was on fast ball right down the middle about waist high. Talk about living right.

Nunez had four more rbi's and Devers a couple more hits. Just maybe this lineup is coming together and not too soon with with the bullpen falling apart.

I'm not absolutely sure Sale is telegraphing his pitches to the Guardians--tonight he wasn't exactly hitting spots especially with his breaking balls. Still, . . .

Vaz: 10 for his last 17 (HR, 3B & two 2Bs)

Nunez 11 for his last 24 (2 HR & four 2Bs, 3 BBs)

Devers 12 for his last 29 (2 HR & two 2Bs, 2 BBs)

Even Moreland is 4 for his last 11 with 2 BB, a 2B and an HR)

He is a 30 /100 guy.

But not a Ortiz replacement.

Even another year from Papi was not likely going to "replace Papi".

His 2016 season was magical.

Yes of course.

30 /100 is never good enough.

Solid point!

Holy f*** what a wacky game.

Vasquez en fuego.

Glad to see it!

1st place. Order has been restored. At least for now.

I just hope this team has found their mojo!! The offense looks like it is finally coming alive!!

Holy s***, I went to bed thinking we had lost 10-9 in crushing fashion. I was following the bottom of the 9th on Gameday and when it showed Moreland with a swinging strike 3 I turned off the computer. Unbelievable.

Well I mean the offense scored 9... Its on Sale today..

I guess Sale was due for a game like that. How ironic that all of those usually solid pitchers, on both teams, got hit hard.

It was nice to see our offense pick up our pitching for a change.

I loved Kimbrel's excitement when Vaz hit the game winning home run.

No kidding!

The 1b coach doesn't seem to be too concerned about it. It's not his job!

These guys do it way too often (Pedroia and Xbo) and the coaching staff hasn't made the point clear that there is almost never a reason to slide into 1st, unless you are avoiding a tag.

3 times they came back tonight!!!! Not even f***ing kimbrel could blow it for them. f*** yeah!!!!! Go sox!!!!

That game was such an emotional roller coaster. I'd hate to be on the Guardians' side of that.

I didn't think they would be able to come back to win that game against the Guardians pitching staff after going down 5-0, much less come back 3 times.

As they say, that's why you play the games.

This was all set up by Mitch Moreland's strike out. He had the baseball IQ to swing at that pitch in the dirt because he knew catcher would miss it and would extend game to Vazquez! Such a smart IQ play that will go unnoticed.

LOL In his words, best strike out of his career.

Hopefully, Moreland is finding his stroke again.

I thought we were finally going to win one for Sale, when he was having an off night.

Kimbrel ends up with the win, but hey.../B]

Wins are a rather stupid stat to begin with, but I always thought awarding a win to a closer who just blew the save was doubly stupid.

We have scored more runs in 2 days of August than we scored the entire month of July. LOL Hyperbole of course, but it sure feels like it.

How do you know the staff hasn't tried to make that clear to them multiple times? But in the moment, instinct will almost always win out.

The W-L record of a reliever might be the most meaningless stat in baseball.

I agree. I don't watch the other teams enough to know how often they do it, but I don't think this is just a Red Sox coaching problem. I have seen plenty of players from other teams slide into 1B also.

Valid point Illinois.

Unfortunately, the scoring rules say it has to be awarded to somebody.

Years ago, they were a decent stat for starting pitchers. But those were the days when team actually expected their starting pitchers to go 9 innings (or more). Nowadays, it's pretty worthless stat overall.

Yeah, pretty much. Relievers can come in for one out and get a Win. Kimbrel got the Win last night due to no part of his performance other than the ability to not get pulled out of the game that inning.

Because they keep doing it. Devers, XBo and Pedroia have spent their entire professional careers in this system. This problem should have been weeded out by the time they got to MLB.

Another good point about Wins having more validity back in the day.

I wonder if MLB would ever change their scoring rules regarding Wins. Or do away with the stat altogether. I doubt it, but they should.

do you watch other games? other teams players do it all the time. it's instinct i suppose. i dont think the first base coach is to blame. i never see them giving the slide hand signal.....

I disagree about what the coaches should have been doing on that play. They are there to observe and communicate. If they were watching the play develop, they should have noticed that the umps did not signal for The infield fly rule and they should have been yelling instructions like crazy. Whether it would have made a difference cannot be known, because Bradley was heading for the dugout. I have seen plays where the batter is heading for the dugout and a fielder drops the ball and the batter runs to first base. Unless Bradley was in the dugout, Amaro should have yelled to him. He didn't, because he had no idea what was going on. He stood there like a doofus like our coaches usually do. If Dick Williams was the manager, the coaches and the players would have gotten an earful after he was finished with the umpires. Edited by a700hitter

They wouldn't give them a slide signal, but they should be lighting guys up who do it and train them to change their behavior.
