Before Youk puts an end to the thread let me throw this out there....

The BDC site allowed political posts so many of my longtime friends from there know exactly where my ideology lays. That said….since the craziness of 45 I have had many conversations with all of my friends…some of whom are leftist commies and some of whom are righty Nazis and most of whom are somewhere in the middle (please note the commies and Nazis references were only in jest and not intended be taken seriously). The one thing that all have come to agree on is that 45 is really f***ing up our country. There certainly was high hope early on that this new president would “shake things up” in a good way (or a great way). As the months have gone by each has realized and admitted in conversation that it is a terrible situation we find ourselves in as a country with this guy as the president. Now many of them will certainly toe the party line and support him publicly because they cannot bear to have any left leaning policies shown the light of day.

As I have come to respect all of you (OK…most) on here I do wonder if anyone still has the passion to fully support 45. And if so…why?

i am struggling to find a reason to support our president and even the times where my "party" hasn't held office i have always supported the president. its what we do as Americans. but it seems like that "we should support our President" philosophy changed during the dubya years and without a doubt during Obama's presidency....

I don't think it's anything new.

JFK - murdered

FDR - unjust war

Nixon - impeached

Ford - goober not voted in

Carter - gas prices and that damn peanut farm, malaise/crisis of confidence speech

Reagan - Iran Contra and pull yourself up by your bootstraps with a dash of nuclear fear

Bush 1 - 1,000 points of light while the economy goes into the shitter

Clinton - bj's and whitewater, plus his wife has a hyphenated last name and his teenage daughter is going through an awkward phase

Bush 2 - unjust Iraq war, freedom fries, starting a never ending war against terror and carry on luggage at airports

Obama - he took everyone's guns and was a secret muslim who wasn't born here and was black

Trump - worst president ever, wants to stir up nuclear with NK, is a terrible human who has terrible children and surrounds himself with terrible human beings, wants to deport everyone and build a wall after his rich cronies make more health care $$$ and get bigly tax breaks, but is really great at congratulating mayors for "great tv ratings" while the city is being raped by a hurricane

And you left out Truman - that guy was a major a-hole, wasn't he?

Nicely done though.

Can we get back to baseball, if only to distract us from the impending Armageddon?

Please don't talk about the upcoming cliff like that...

Like I said on the Farrell thread, if you're POTUS or manager of the Red Sox, you are guaranteed to take a lot of abuse.

divide & conquer. the playbook of the 1%ers for centuries. works to perfection.

Watching the game play out last night with our depleted lineup, I still remained worried about an older brother (80's) who made the decision to stay in Venice, Fla rather than go into traffic with little gas or lodging available. I wanted him to drive up to North Carolina to stay with us but age gets in the way. I heard from him around 9:00 pm with hurricane force winds battering the house and water from rain rising near to the house (not storm surge). Trying to contact them but there is no power there. He and his wife are both big Sox fans.

Half the country is probably 'connected' to Florida through travels and relatives. Just little eerie watching the Rays play when Tampa was ready to get slammed. Praying for everyone's safety. My step daughter and family are hunkered down north of Ft. Meyers area.

It's sad that we need this type of event to bring the country together. Why can't we just get along? Respect one another. Why are we so angry?

I know how worrisome it is not to be able to reach your family members. I hope they are all safe.

My b rother and his wife rode the storm out by sleeping in the hallway while the windows rattled in the 100+ mph wind but came through it all with only minor property damage. Thanks for the kind words.

Glad to hear. It could have been so much worse.

Jose might be heading towards NE.....

Once it gets near Boston, it will lose all power and downgraded to a 'breeze'.

Good to see Betts come through.

Maybe he's finally snapped out of it and will go on the tear we've been waiting for all year.

We can't expect to prevail in any playoff series without him as a main contributor, so it certainly was good news tonight to see him hit well and with power.

Updated Team OPS:

(With Sox numbers only/ 250+ OPS unless noted)

.885 Nunez (171 PA)

.873 Devers (164)

.813 Travis (59)

.791 Pedey

.788 Beni

.777 Betts

.764 Moreland

.757 HRam

.755 JBJ

.742 Vaz

.723 Lin (63)

.722 Bogey

.634 Leon

.582 Marrero (170)

.494 Holt (127)

.473 Davis (22)

For those who wanted a "balanced line up with no black holes," we got it. The problem is, we have "balanced" mediocrity.

Our top 8 PA players all fall between .722 (Bogey) and .791 (Pedey).

I'm not sure any team in MLB has such a tight range with their top 8.

Here's our 2nd half OPS numbers (60+ PAs)

.885 Nunez

.873 Devers

.866 Vaz

.832 Pedey

.766 Beni

.708 Moreland

.700 HRam

.693 Young

.672 Betts (big jump from last night)

.597 JBJ

.573 Bogey

.563 Leon

.501 Holt

Those aren't the up to date numbers - they don't have yesterday's games in there yet.

When do they get posted? Do they wait for stat corrections until some point?

They're usually posted fairly early in the morning. Today they're much later than usual. Someone is sleeping on the job!
