I would like to see us resign Nunez.

but that does not solve the issues we have at first base.

Ideally it is the perfect spot for Devers, especially if we resign Nunez.

Ps: we can also use next year to teach chavis the joys of left field.

He's a bad defensive OF, who is 29, and repeating AAA for the fourth time. He is not valuable. He is a AAAA player.

He also lost development time when he shot himself in the leg.

And who says he sucks in the outfield?

I'm not a fan of having HRam as our FT 1Bman next year. I even worry about him as our FT DH.

Signing Nunez and no other FA would mean HRam plays 1B and Nunez DH. I can't see moving Devers off 3B for a fielder like Nunez. Moustakas, yes: Nunez, no.

We could sign Duda and just go with Holt/Hernandez/Lin/Marrero as our utility IF'ers. (Holt could be the 4th OF'er for short-term needs only.)

Hosmer is an option, but I think Duda has higher upside offensive impact potential.

I do not think DD will be looking for a long term 1B solution, unless it is inexpensive, which would mean a trade. I don't see any trade match-ups right now, but maybe this winter, something will come up.

I'm not sure we can get Mostakas, Duda or Hosmer for under 3 years.

Need to bury the Yankees this weekend. Send a message

Moncada with the game winning hit as the guys we swept went on to sweep the Astros.

We sweep the Rays, and they beat the Guardians tonight.

The Jays beat the Yanks, too.

As we have looked better and better, other AL top-contending teams have looked worse and worse.

Problem with long term deals is you are stuck with the contract and forced to do things you may not do under normal circumstances.

Curious case of Pedroia. Truth is he is beginning to break down. He's going to require more and more off days. His body won't hold up. Because of his long term deal, Betts was moved to OF. Sure he's been great in RF. But what if we had his bat as a 2nd baseman?

Also because of Pedroia, Moncada was moved to 3B. Now I would do Chris Sale all day long. But asking a young player to move off his primary position while trying to adjust to a new position at the major league level seems tad overwhelming.

You can talk all you want about team friendly contract but the truth of the matter is that no one is willing to take his contract, let alone give up a player of any significance. Any other park, he's basically a singles hitter.

I wouldn't bet on him being nearly as good defensively at 2B as he is in RF.

1) Even if Pedey gives us .725 ball the rest of the way with plus D, his home-town discount contract will have been worth it.

2) Betts is the best defensive OF'er in the world. I don't want him at 2B.

3) Moncada would suck on D no matter where we put him.

4) We have Chris Freakin' Sale!

Whether you like him or not, Hanley is our guy again next year unless we trade him and swallow money. Lets just hope he can be healthier.

Would love to sign Nunezz but he will be expensive.

I am still high on Lin as a utility infielder and possibly he could fill in as a backup outfielder. Hernandez would also need a look if he can get back. Neither are power hitters so we need an infusion there.

To get Mostakas, of at all available we might need to give up one of our so called killer bees. Would it be Bogey who is young and would be interesting to many teams?

Duda would be a `1st baseman with power?

Pedey is the exception. Price on the other hand is the rule.

Hard to imagine Pedey getting 4/56 contract on the open market after having a negative offensive WAR season at 34. Wow, such discount!

He should definitely not use you as his agent.

If he needs some creative accounting about why he should get more money, I'm his man! But as Abraham Lincoln once said "ball don't lie."

Honest Abe said a lot after he died.

I agree- HRam will be a FT starter next year. 1B or DH is the only question.

Nunez will be expensive and would likely keep us from getting a big bat at 1B.

I'm not sold on Lin.

I don't think we need power from our utility IF'er. We need a "real" 1Bman.

His contract will amount to a great deal for the Sox, even if he gives us .725 and plus D in 120+ games/year the rest of the way.

Doesn't mean you couldn't find a cheaper alternative that would provide similar production and better leadership.

I'm with MVP on this....There aren't many teams willing to give us much for taking over Dustin's remaining 4 years. He's Pedestrinisque. Only spoiled Sox fans think he's a bargain.

Red Sox Pedroia, Dusti $15,125,000

Yankees Castro, Starlin $9,857,143

Rays Miller, Brad $3,575,000

Orioles Schoop, Jonathan $3,475,000

Altuve is making $4.5M this year and has club options for 2018 and 2019 at $6M and $6.5M. Now that's a home team discount.
