I'd kick the tires pretty hard on Sonny Gray.

Seems like prices are lower than I expected for some of these recent trades, although Gray is not a rental.

Keeping the Yanks from getting him might be an added plus.

We should be focused on the fact that we cannot hit the baseball with any regularity-last I checked, 9th in the league in OPS. Thats our weakness-offense. Not sure who is available, but without either an additional bat or an improvement in the performance of the current players I do not see us as being better than either the Yankees or the Royals.

I am glad that you could relate to the humor. I guess that the notion of applying for working papers is lost on millennials. LOL!

Punching a clock means literally punching the clock these daze!!!

I wonder if Quackenbush is the same doc that told us Sandoval's body was comprised of 18% body fat before the great unveiling

Probably the biggest reason for acquiringm would be to keep him from the Yankees. Also, Price and ERod's health cannot be trusted down the stretch.

1. Its really not a good idea to get a player just to keep him off the Yankees. Worry about chilling your own*holes.

2. Given what Yankees pAid for Sonny Gray, no amount of tire-kicking was keeping him out of the Bronx. ..

I agree, but I dont think the Yankees paid much giving up two guys post surgical.

Mike Quackenbush?

We'll have to ask Spud and a700 but I think that Quackenbush might be a cousin of that old sawbones Dr. Phillip McKrackin.

But but but manny experts picked the Sox to win the division.

Remember also that no one could have predicted the mass under-performance of this team.

Therefore it makes perfect sense to expect this team to all of a sudden start performing the way they had been expected to.

Or so I hear.

when you are all 5'6" and might weigh in at 150 it won't make much difference-lol

Nogosek, Bautista & Callahan

Some talent there, but not as much as I expected it would take to get Reed.

I like the deal.

Any news on a big bat, or are we all done?

Sounds like we gave up a law firm like Dewey, Cheatem and Howe of the old Bob and Ray show. I like getting Reed and would have liked it more earlier as we did need a solid setup man/Closer. Like Nunez, who has also been good, the problem will be trying to sign them to contracts next year with our youngsters coming on. Can our pickups along with Devers get us to a wild card spot? Only if guys like Betts, Beni and Bogaerts give us more. DD probably did as much as he could considering the likely constraints he was under.

You can question the decision not to bring Devers up earlier. You can wonder about poor game management and/or coaching, and you can wonder about why so many of our players have performed below exppectations. You can wonder why our biggest money acquisition is popping off and not getting disciplined. To be fair, the team has suffered injuries to Pedey, Bogaerts and Moreland and Rameriz has been playing with pain so some of the problems could be related to those issues, but the general malaise seems to go deeper. I don't think spending big on another quality bat would have righted the ship.

Reed has his warts. He has had a really strong year, but his HR/9IP are rising, hence why he is outperforming his FIP by a lot

His home runs per nine is rising because his ball is losing life and that makes him a fly ball pitcher in a park that does not like fly ball pitchers,

Have not been impressed with him yet. We still don't have someone for the 8th. I wish Kelly would step up.

I really liked this move, but I have not been impressed with him yet either. Hopefully, it's just a very brief acclimation period.
