Which in my opinion is a bit unfortunate. I don't think there is any problems with the pitching on this team. Every game we have had since the All Star break has been winnable if our offense produces. But such as life.

 

I agree that hitting is by far a bigger concern than pitching. I would like to add another reliever. If a 1B upgrade can be acquired for that amount, I'd be good with that. I am a big Moreland fan, but he has fallen off big time.

Yeah i don't think DD is done yet. ( Is Justin Bour a possibilty? Or is that a bridge too far? ). I sure hope DD isn't showcasing Devers. That would be madness.

 

If they wanted to trade Devers, they would have left him in AAA where he was raking rather than risk a mini slump in MLB.

I have no problem with the trade. I think it's a good depth/insurance move, which I'm always a fan of. But I don't think it's much of an upgrade over what we already have.

 

It's not an upgrade on defense. It's a big upgrade on offense (just not HRs).

I hope Management don't take the platoon route with Devers, let him face Lefties. He needs as much time for him to catch up to the speed of the Majors. Mentally. If he is not going to play every day, send him down. Every day precious for a 20 year old.

Lefty pitchers exist. It is inevitable that he will face them if he has an MLB career.

 

I don't want more flawed and limited hitters on this team. It's a waste of roster space anyway.

That said, there’s some risk in Nunez’s profile as well. He’s a free-swinger who doesn’t strike out because he’d rather make contact with a pitch out of the zone than work the count, but he lacks any real power, so his offensive game is entirely about accumulating singles and then stealing second base. Baseball Savant has his expected wOBA, based on his exit velocity and launch angles, at just .269, ranking 219th of 241 batters with at least 200 at-bats. His speed will get him some extra hits that xwOBA won’t give him credit for, but he’s regressed as a hitter this year, even with his lower strikeout rate.

Yup. Platooning him stunts his development.

 

1) We need to put the best players on the field each game. If Devers has to sit here and there to make room for a better player vs a LHP, then that's what should be done.

2) Even playing vs just RH'd starters and PH opportunities in MLB will likely give Devers more playing time and "development" than had he stayed in AAA.

3) We have faced lefty starters in about 1 in 5 games. That's not going to stunt Devers' growth. We might also see Nunez play LF vs LHPs as Beni sucks with those splits. He could also DH as HRam plays 1B. He could also play SS: maybe Bogey needs a 10 day DL stint.

 

Devers should get plenty of playing time, despite the acquisition of Nunez.
