If and when, might we shut down Price and Sale to have them super healthy going into 2020?

Price maybe. With Sale it's probably more important that he work on his game.

What do you guys take from the comments Cora made about shaking up the pitching with some off days coming. Put on you manager and even GM hat and plan out the next two months.

You owe it to your fans to go for it for another couple weeks. It’s bleak, but if you’re gonna tank the last 6 weeks or so, you gotta have indisputable evidence. If that comes to bear, you DFA Porcello and Cashner and bring up Erasmo Ramirez and Teddy Stankiewicz. At least see what they can do before allowing them to move on (I think both will be FAs)

I totally go with playing any player we need to find out more about their level for next year and beyond. That includes Travis, Marco, Chavis and if ready for the bigs, Dalbec, Ockimey, Chatham, Centeno, Lin and Gorkys Hernandez.

If Houck is ready, bring him on!

Poyner, Brasier and Shawaryn could also get some looks.

I'd stretch DHern back to a starter by September.

I'd look long and hard at Brian Johnson and Velazquez to see if they are worth keeping around, assuming they show life.

I would not burn Workman or ERod out. I'd bench Price(IL?) & Porcello and limit Sale's pitches.

I'd give Barnes a complete physical to see WTF.

Let 'em, play.

No fan should care at this point.

No fan wants to see Porcello or Cashner pitch another game for the Sox.

Moon to replace DD in 2020....?????

I like your way of thinking

Since Duran is our top outfield prospect and a possible replacement for JBJ, we ought to get a look at him as well. I wonder though, are the players needed on their minor league teams for the period until September? If so they may be reluctant to move guys up until then.

I thought of Duran, but I think he was already rushed through a couple levels, so I'm not sure he's ready.

If the Sox brass thinks he is, bring him on, too!

If we chose to reset in 2020, keeping DD makes little to no sense.

I really think Casas is in that situation as well. i would love to see us get a young, left handed, power hitting first baseman, but he won't be ready next year or maybe even until 2021 (even if he ever makes it). Until that time we have Travis and Dalbec as possibilities. I don't notice Ockimey on our prospect list. Is that an oversight?

You don’t play that game anymore. Guys you’re looking to just check on you bring up. Guys who aren’t ready are kept down until mid year and they prove readiness. No use starting Duran’s clock this year if you could start it in 2020 or 2021.

Also, he isn’t ready yet at all. Develop your prospects in the minors.

Funny. He is our #4 prospect and our #1 outfield prospect. He is very fast, is a line drive hitter and yes, could use additional seasoning. We are suggesting at looking at him for 2020 or 2021.

He dropped from 27th to 39th on the soxprospect.com list, despite 22 HRs and 39 XBHs in 328 ABs in AAA.

I guess the .356 OBP does not outweigh the .213 BA and 177 Ks.

Yes, even if he was deemed ready, we should hold back the clock. You are right.

Casas was in high school two years ago.

Ockimey isn’t really a prospect because while he has power, he’s not much of a hitter. And defensively, he couldn’t catch a cold if he was naked in Norway...

The .356 OBP is the only thing, besides the power, that gives him a snowball's chance in hell.

He’s a positionless Three True Outcome hitter. His ceiling is Chris Carter...

Big assumption, but say we choose a total reset next season and shoot for a quick turn-around and possible contention in 2021.

We could see this: (No JBJ, Holt, Leon)

C: Vaz & Centeno

1B: Dalbec & Ockimey (Chavis from 2B/Travis from LF)

2B: Chavis & Marco (AAA: Chatham)

3B: Devers (Dalbec from 1B)

SS: Bogaerts (Marco) (AAA: Lin)

LF: Travis (JDM from DH

CF: Beni (for one year, then back to LF) (AAA: Duran)

RF: Betts (to be re-signed)

DH: JDM (Ockimey from 1B)

Pitchers: (No Porcello)

SP: Sale, Price, ERod, Eovaldi & Johnson/Wright/Velazquez/D Hernandez/Houck

RP: Workman, Barnes, Hembree, Taylor, Walden, Brasier/Brewer (SP'er not the 5th starter)

Lakins/Poyner/Feltman/Shawaryn/DReyes

Get a decent draft pick in 2020 and 2021, and then spend big for 2021 and keep the guys from above that look promising.

Agreed, but he stuck around 8 years, of which 3 saw him get 500+ PAs.

He led the league in HRs one year with 41. He had 131 HRs in a 2261 PA stretch.

His career OBP was .312.

We can reset without trading Betts, but trading him makes more sense for a rebuild. We could then re-sign him for 2021 or some other quality FA(s).

We could also try to trade JD with cash.

I think they don’t deal Betts if they don’t have to. But I also don’t think every available roster spot will be filled internally...

I don't either, but I think resetting after this year makes the most sense, especially if we want to keep Betts.

I don't think you will ever see the Sox go past even 1st Luxury Tax penalty again, as long as Henry owns the team. I think he will get more involved in spending after this season. The current Luxury Tax threshold is $206,000,000.

You should be able to put a WS contender on the field without coming close to that threshold. Right now we are $228,700,637.

The Cubs are next 219,125,039. 2,625.008 over the Cap. Lucky they play in a weak division. Only 2 games up in 1st place.

Funny pattern here, one present Sox GM, and 1 former 1 with highest payrolls.

Why would this season change his approach?

Henry has been through a lot of ups and downs with us, great seasons and disastrous ones. The crazy roller coaster that the team is on really started with the collapse in 2011.

Where he goes from here is going to be very interesting. But I wouldn't make any assumptions about what his plans are.

I would say he will again, especially the first tier tax. I think it unlikely he will break the second tier anytime soon and may NEVER as owner of this team approach breaking the third tier.
