If they give 2 top 20 prospects, the trade is dumb. Beeks, Shawaryn and another guy would be an overpay.

I agree, but the market for relievers has been absolutely ridiculous the last few years at the deadline. Heck the Yankees practically built the leagues best farm system from dealing 2 top relievers.

So if those are 2 of the three guys (depending on who the 3rd is) I'd say this is a pretty good deal for the Sox. (The two according to Mayo, not me)

It's Jamie Callahan, Gerson Bautista, and Stephen Nogosek to the Mets in the agreement for Addison Reed.

#20, #25, and #47. That's not too bad.

Yup, it's a good trade. Anyone after #20 is completely expendable in this farm system.

@IanCundall

RHP Gerson Bautista: Skinny, long. Effort, struggles to repeat delivery. FB 94-97 T100. Poor command. Fringy SL & CH http://bit.ly/2uctWMv

@IanCundall

RHP Stephen Nogosek. 2016 6th rd pick. Max effort delivery. FB 92-94 T96. Power SL 85-87. Inconsistent CH 84-86. http://bit.ly/2tWGDzG

@IanCundall

RHP Jamie Callahan: FB 92-95 w/life, touches higher. Flash above-average Split & SL. Close to MLB ready. RP profile. http://bit.ly/2wdSTIU

I was surprised Callahan didn't get a look in Boston this year.

The trade was generally fair market price, people seem upset with facts though.

A lot of people complaining on twitter than DD got fleeced again and that it was too much to pay. Well, that's the price to do business at the trade deadline. The price paid was also pretty meager to begin with. Sox need an extra BP arm since Thornburg and Smith aren't coming along well, Kelly is injured, Hembree sucks and Barnes is unreliable.

Some interesting RP prospects, but nobody I'd worry too much about. I was bracing myself to lose someone like Beeks or Shawaryn in this deal at a minimum.

When all the SoxProspects guys are saying that the trade is good, there's no reason worrying about an overpay.

Dombrowski has come this far to put us in a "win now" position (supposedly), and it's hard to imagine he'd draw the line at trading guys like Chavis and Mata, maybe even Groome, if there are significant upgrades out there to be had. I'm not saying I want to see us overpay for a rental player, but for Dombrowski to suddenly start prioritizing 2020 over the here and now would fly in the face of everything he's done up to this point, and as quiet as things look right now, I wouldn't be shocked if he had a surprise or two up his sleeve...

Agree. I don't know about the surprise up his sleeve, but he is not going to pass up a trade for a true impact player unless it's a gross overpay.

If they were truly in "win now and f*** everything else" mode they would have signed Encarnacion.

Do you not think they're in 'win now' mode?

If they thought the offense would be this bad, they would have signed Encarnacion.

Sounds good to me.

It was a terrible miscalculation by DD. It was an obvious move and he would have truly been the final piece of the puzzle. Instead, he filled one hole with Sale and created another hole losing Ortiz.

If Devers was the opening day 3B, the Sox would be in first place by about 5 games. That's the real miscalculation. Sad!

I think they were in "win now but reset the luxury tax" mode.

Still don't like losing Nogosek, Soxprospects said Mauricio Dubon said best he would be a utility infielder, good chance he'll be starting SS next year for the Brewers.

"Compete for the playoffs now, but stay under the cap this year"

Because resetting the luxury tax has huge implications for the next two years, which is also part of our 'win now' mode window.

They were much higher on him towards the end of last season. They don't update their profiles often enough.

Not sure Dubon is a huge step up from what the Brewers have now at SS with Arcia.

I thought two months of Addison Reed would cost more. Good trade for the Red Sox.

MLB Prospect Watch ranked the traded Boston prospects No. 18, No. 23 and No. 28 in the Red Sox system:

And it may help my fantasy team by turning the Mets closer role over to newly acquired AJ Ramos.

I'll give you a 'well played' on that one. :)

Ranking Bautista at 28 is too high. SoxProspects were going to drop him out of the top 60 this year.

Told by an industry source that while the Red Sox continue to monitor market, they don't anticipate making another deal by 4 pm.

WIN NOW MODE!

Reed is a guy I'd be leery about. He's had some good seasons as well as some stinkers. His velocity continues to trickle downward. Also, his HR rate has risen exorbitantly this season. Yes, his K/BB rate is insane this year and his ERA is great, but he's got some signs there that would make me worry about his late game role on a playoff club

You just broke out the chart. Didn't you? :P
