I wonder what constraints have been placed on DD in regards to trades and finances. It seems strange to me that he has taken no action to date when circumstances have clearly called for action. We as fans may not understand the limitations place on DD so it may be unfair to criticize him. I'm not claiming or inferring that you did, but that thought came to mind as a means to understand why nothing has happened.

Probably because the asking price for what he wanted was deemed too high in prospects, and the store of prospects is also depleted etc.

Verlander, Miggy, for Price, Swihart, Johnson, and etc. Then send ERod, Chavis, Groome for Darvish.

Maybe we can place the pitchers in the batting order and they can contribute to our run production! (Tongue in cheek). Clearly we need hitting, not pitching.

On the other hand, maybe the management is failing to excite the players to meaningful action. Last year I compared JF to the sitting Buddha, who impassively and blythely contemplates his navel while the games go merrily along. The Red Sox have the worst record in the league for base running outs and must rank very low in situational hitting. It seems that little to no changes have been effected during the long running saga of poor play. If the slide continues, JF will not be back for another year.

Red Sox have acquired Eduardo Nunez from the Giants.

Red Sox To Acquire Eduardo Nunez

July 25th, 2017 at 11:26pm CST

By Steve Adams

The Red Sox have agreed to acquire infielder Eduardo Nunez from the Giants, reports FOX’s Ken Rosenthal (on Twitter). Nunez was shown leaving the Giants’ dugout to a series of hugs from his teammates on tonight’s broadcast.

My guess is Marrero goes to AAA.

Who gets the boot off the 40 man roster?

Selsky?

Fister?

Boyer?

Velazquez?

Rutledge?

Ysla?

Elias?

With Brentz doing well, my guess is Selsky, but it could be Elias or Ysla.

Maybe we quickly trade 2 guys from the 40 man for a RP'er.

Rutledge. He is pretty awful and acquisition of Nunez, promotion of Devers, and Holt coming back make him useless. Plus Lin and Marrero are also better. I see no reason to keep Rutledge.

My guess is Rutledge--the guy belongs in an independent baseball league.

Moreover, they have plenty of infielders, Marrero, Lin, Holt, and now Nunez.

edit: JasonBay beat me to it.

Nunez is a rental. Rutledge has a better chance making the Sox next year than Selsky.

We may also trade Holt. Marrero or Lin this winter.

Marco Hernandez will be healthy next year. Rutledge literally brings nothing at all. He's a below average player who if we DFA I doubt anyone even claims.

So is Selsky.

If an OF'er got hurt, we'd activate Brentz over Selsky.

I'm not saying Selsky is good, they're both pretty bad options, but Rutledge his whole career has been a negative WAR player, and this year he looked horrendous. I think he has even less value than Selsky.

Hard to argue either player's case.

Yeah.. Honestly if either guy was released I don't think anyone in the world would care or argue about it lol.

Let's just DFA both of them and find a RP'er or big bat to add.

How about...

Trade Price for some top prospects

Flip all the prospects plus Travis, Vaz, Callahan, Dalbec, Ysla, Beeks & Lakins

for

Verlander, J Wilson & Avila

Who is going to give us top prospects for Price?

David Price might not even be an upgrade over Rich Hill or Brandon McCarthy right now.

BM went on the DL. Dodgers are looking for a starter.

Price to Verlander is a downgrade. Verlander has looked his age this year. You need Price to be Price. You don't need a 4.6ERA Verlander. Avila is a flash in the pan. I love Wilson. But you can get more for Price if you ate money.

I don't think this sox team is much more upgradable. You have a lineup that is underperforming. Your rotation has been good. Your pen has been good. Kelly should be back soon. Aside from Avila maybe bolstering your offense should you deal for him (and there's a chance he falls back to his career norms) your team with Nunez is as is. You don't have the pieces to make a big splash. You just need your team to play better

That's the bottom line. We just need our guys (offense) to play up to expectations.

This is a good thought. Kershaw out now, they have a hell of a Farm system, and money. If he Opts out they will do good.

We could even save money by trading Price and adding Verlander.

Why would we want to add Verlander now...he's having a poor season and deep into decline years.

He's actually doing better, of late (8 ERs in his last 4 starts), and he's under team control for less years than Price.

Price: $127M/5 (after this year)

Verlander: $56M/2

Of course, we could maybe trade Price and add someone else (Cueto, Gray...?)
