There are actually some hopeful things about JBJ's numbers. One is that he's only struck out 4 times in 8 games. Another is that he has a crazy-low BABip of .154.

And and and come on - He got a hit last night.

I hate being down on a player. I love watching JBJ in centerfield. I root for players more when they struggle or are just mediocre talents. I hope he shuts me up tonight and going forward.

My plan would be to see where we can improve our offensive performance. If, as expected, Bradley is one of the worst hitting guys in the lineup I would be looking for an OF who can improve the chances of winning through offensive contribution while still playing acceptable defense.

How many "black holes" are acceptable in the lineup?

But your point was about what to do, if the team is struggling offensively. That would mean more than JBJ would be doing poorly. For argument's sake, let's say Pedey is hurt and Nunez and Hram-Moreland all have the same .575 OPS JBJ has. Why choose to trade the only one of the three that at least can field?

Moreland can field rather well.

That's much kinder than what I was going to say.

I’m just a kind person S5. What?! You want to fight about it? ;)

Yes, but CF is more important than 1B and trading JBJ weakens 2 OF positions not one (LF & CF).

At work these days, got promoted to a 2nd shift position, had to take it. Saw on the computer, got a couple hits to Center. and a hit to Left. now were talking.

You said "why choose to trade the only one of the three that at least can field?"

Moreland can certainly field his position.

The choice was JBJ vs HRam-Moreland and JBJ vs Nunez assuming they were all hitting equally poorly when the time came to trade one to upgrade the offense.

Yes, if we traded Moreland, he's a good fielder; you made your point, but you fail to respond to my point.

If Moreland-HRam, Nunez and JBJ are all at .575 in July and you want to upgrade the offense, why trade the guy that most weakens the defense? You are losing the same offense with each guy.

Look, I realize it's a hypothetical scenario, but your point was based on the whole team struggling on offense and what to do. Of course, if JBJ is at .500 and Moreland and Nunez are at .650, then I can understand trading JBJ although I still wouldn't under those conditions).

I don't need to respond to any other point you're making subsequently to stating that Moreland can't field his position. You were wrong. There's not point you can't make that explains how Moreland doesn't field his position.

come over here and say that!! :D

Don't you live up in the Bangor area? No way he finds you up there if you don't want to be found. lol

Now I know we have run across each other. there can't be that many of us in Maine.

Okay, if you can't understand what I'm asking, I'll move on. It's not a big deal anyways.

Ok let's cut the s*** ...this conversation is throwing spit wads against the wall until someone sacks up and recommends an Alternative CF ...The whole Mitchy two bags convo is a derailment ...what player has a better bat and gold glove Glove ??? I pick Mookie ....tell me a better alternative ...and don't give me it weakens RF ...that may be true but we can find someone a hell of a lot easier to replace RF than CF ....Benny could actually Play RF wouldn't you say ??? I certainly would and now we have LF at Fenway ....did anyone notice JD last night ? Did you see him learning on the Job ? I did.Now JD is not and I repeat not an everyday LF but we have Nuney don't we ? Nuney can actually play a better OF than Infield ....here's my suggestion ...Read the above and you have our Answer ...Yes JBJ plays elite CF but Mook wouldn't be far behind would he ?? No ...so there it is Platoon LF play Benny in RF have Mookie man CF and he and Benny can switch depending on the wild hair up Coras ass .....but here's the River ....is this a better team ? Hmmmm negligible at best right ? But slightly better some nights ? Yes is it worth giving up JBJ for Andrew Miller for the 8 th ??? Yeah I'd do it and would have months ago .....would we have nashing of teeth and days we longed for the greatest Defensive CF I've ever witnessed ???? Hellllll yes we would and I already have once this year . Edited by Natick to NC

Or, maybe JBJ will get his numbers in order and this thread will go back into mothballs.

I mean, he raised his average 73 freakin' points last night, from 133 to 206. A couple more good games is all it would take. Because it's early, after all.

Who is doing that? Is there anyone here at all who doesn't understand that right now JBJ is the best we got in centerfield? A lengthy heartfelt post for sure but almost everybody understands this. It is a classic moot point right now. I also don't think that there a real Red Sox fan (emphasis on the word real) who isn't really pulling for JBJ everytime he has a bat in his hands. Also, not to be contrary but I would have to say that Fred Lynn is the best cf that I have seen in a sox uniform. Certainly no question when it comes to hitting. You don't win an MVP and a Rookie of the Year award without being pretty damn good.

Not to be contrary JBJ would bat over 300 with 20 plus HR back then and would be now widely regarded as the goat CF ..but that's my opinion of the talent today vs yesteryear .I love the Kid and don't want to trade him now ...but I'm calling people out to give an alternative .

Besides it is Maine.

You can't get there from here.

For people that travel in Maine!!!!!:P

Yes, Maine is quite a place. The fact it's the place Stephen King was born and has lived most of his life is totally appropriate.

Just to clarify - Are you just funning me or do really believe what you are saying here about JBJ and how he would have played in 1975? Not to be contrary but I really hope you don't mean this.
