In my opinion, many GMs would love to have JBJ on their team, even at $6.1M, and would give up something significant to get him... despite all his slumps.

If that's the case, why aren't there more reports of GMs being interested?

Not many trades are made in early April.

Maybe some GMs who called this winter and were told, "no" are figuring there's no use in calling again after such a short time has gone by and values don't fluctuate like in fantasy baseball.

JBJ ....yeah it's time to try Benny and Mookie out there ....Then RF can be manned by Nuney ,Swihart ,the verrrrry occasional JD ....I would trade JBJ in a cocaine heartbeat but the package must include a power hitter in upper minors and Andrew Miller ...yes I'd trade JBJ to Cleveland for Miller to lockdown the 8th inning for as long as we have big Red....hope we can get red another 3 years ....Having Thorny ,Miller ,Craig would vault this team .

Do you really think not many GMs would want JBJ at $6.1M with 2 arbs left?

You guys kill me with your 7 game sample size (and even less sometimes) judgments.

I'm glad DD and Cora are in charge on this one.

Something I think we learned during the Victorino days is how important it is to have someone with the skills to play CF in both CF & RF for 81 games. Benintendi may be wasted in LF in Fenway but having his skills in LF for the remaining 81 games is a big plus.

Putting Swihart or Nunez into that outfield will weaken the outfield defense tremendously. Does anyone really think that what we'd gain in OPS from Swihart and Nunez over JBJ would offset what we'd lose in defense if they replaced JBJ out there?

I think (and hope) that JBJ is around for a long time because he simply doesn't have the offensive numbers to command a Boras type contract. I believe that when the time comes the Sox will sign him for a reasonable amount of money.

Agreed. His offense might keep him from getting huge arb raises and a fat FA contract.

Where'd you see that?

JBJ for Andrew Miller would you do it strait up ??? I would be pretty damn tempted .

1 year of Miller for 3 years of JBJ?

Nope.

Plus, Miller makes $3M more than JBJ, and that would leave us no budget slack at the deadline.

Feb 7 (OK, 8 weeks)

Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY is reporting that the Red Sox and Guardians discussed a trade earlier this offseason involving Edwin Encarnacion and Jackie Bradley Jr. But Boston "didn't want to part with Bradley."

It's also swapping JBJ's glove for Mitch Moreland's bat. Not really excited about that option. This move really only makes sense if there's organizational OF depth.

s***, I forgot about that one. Think they could still get EE for him? Now that would be going all in.

Once Pedey returns, Nunez could play LF. He's clearly a better hitter than JBJ on offense.

(I'd still keep JBJ.)

Edwin Encarnacion's AAV of $20 million would have serious luxury tax implications for the Red Sox as Jackie Bradley has a 2018 salary of only $6.1 million.

Despite a slow start, the Guardians remain the clear favorite to win the American League Central after posting 102 wins last year. Three years of Jackie Bradley is not enough an upgrade over six years of 25-year-old center fielder Bradley Zimmer to justify the loss of Encarnacion.

That would be one way to free up some money for Pom & Kimbrel.

That assumes a trade partner would be willing to pick up much of the roughly $55 million remaining on contract of Dustin Pedroia, who is coming off a concerning injury as the veteran approaches his 35th birthday in August.

I understand that moves cannot be made in a vacuum, and that they have to be made to give us the best overall team. I also understand that trading Jackie might become a reality if the FO prioritizes keeping someone else.

If I were in charge of the team, I can say with little hesitation that the first one to go will be Kimbrel. That is in no way a knock on Kimbrel. It's just my opinion that a team should not spend a boatload on relief pitchers, including closers.

Wow....good answer. You have a very good point, as always.

No one wants Pedey.

As a 10-5 guy. he can veto any trade, which means somebody is going to have to pony up more $$$ for him to go. Does that have further luxury tax implications?

If someone is dumb enough pony up more $$$$, they would be responsible for additional money and the higher AAV. Realistically, Pedey ain't going nowhere. He's an institution despite throwing his teammates under the bus just to ingratiate himself to an opposing player.

I'm assuming a team might pay 60%.

Yeah I agree. Pedrioa has to come back and play well all season and remain healthy with a healthy prognosis for next year and beyond.

Not going to happen.
