Farrell still doesn't have his job because they failed to get past the ALDS. That simple. He will get a job somewhere though.

I agree with that, it's almost impossible to get rid of a manager who won the World Series once. They have to really, really stink and look completely lost. Farrell is neither, he just didn't win when it mattered.

Ron Gardenhire is the front runner in the “way too early” poll. a700 might blow an aneurysm if that comes to fruition

I want DeMarlo Hale. Former Tito staffer, was a big part of the salad years and a very experienced bench coach. He'd be a great candidate to give a veteran team because he's been around the block so long. I think it's his turn to break into the managerial circuit and I want it to be here.

You should not have posted that without sending me a script for BP meds.

Well he did kind of...... We won a World Series under him regardless if people think it was because of him or not. I know we sure as hell didn't amount to jack under Bobby V..... In fact that was a train wreck that year. JF got us 3 division titles, 2 back to back and a World Series. He did his part for us. It's unfortunate but there are high expectations in Boston. This isn't a small market team like Tampa or Oakland. Even with the division titles getting swept last year and only winning 1 game this year in the post season is not a pretty look for a manager especially when you have a top 5 pitching rotation. It is what it is..... Most people got their wish and he is gone. I still wish him the best of luck in the future. And here is hoping we don't get another Bobby V type manager next season.

Why do you say that. His time with Minnesota was very good.

I don't want a manager that actually prefers scrappy slap hitters with no power.

When a player’s manager loses the clubhouse, he’s lost his biggest asset. That’s what happened. Red Sox needed to move on.

While this is true and is on Farrell, we'd be doing well to get rid of Pedey too. Addition by subtraction. Price too, but neither are expendable right now. No doubt in my mind that both are clubhouse cancers. How do you think his teammates felt when Pedey shouted to Machado "it's not me, it's them!" And then I read today that later on he gave a clubhouse interview where he implied he's a team leader. f*** outta here.

Dombrowski said that he's going to keep factors in decision to himself. Cites a belief that organization is ready for change.

Looks like they won't be dragging him in the media.

But just started a wildfire of speculation. If it's not for losing ALDS, why are you firing the first manager to back to back division titles with the roster he had at his disposal?

Some of this s*** is really annoying and doesn't lend itself to a useful baseball discussion. As I have said before, we should have vetted these BDC people when they came over en masse. TS long timers have been generally overly indulgent and tolerant of the new members, but we know that this place is a lot less fun since the influx. They have been here for a while. We know which ones are good and which ones make the place worse. Most have made the cut and add to the baseball discussion, and some are outstanding, but frankly some of them need to get cut. It really is time to bite the bullet. We are very tolerant with new and existing members, but this place has become less fun and we know why.

While I am not a BDC exile and I skew traditionalist, this is utter ********. I didn't realize you feel entitled to have a monopoly on what to post here, and anyone who has a different point of view gets lined up against the wall. What utter conceit and arrogance. You think you're top dog just because of your post count?

The problem here is not the argument between philosophies but the tendency to beat said arguments to the death.

Per TalkSox:

Baseball is random.

Managers don't matter.

Batting order doesn't matter.

The offseason doesn't matter.

So, just throw whoever out there and the results would be just the same.

The offseason doesn't matter?

That is not it at all. I just don't like posters who make every post about taking on posters instead of talking about baseball (and BTW they usually get their facts wrong about what other posters have said). That doesn't make for good discussion, but thanks for illustrating my point.

John Farrell strikes me as a good loyal man. I feel badly for him but he had to see this coming. Another poster said it earlier and I agree that he was not DD's man to begin with. IMO, he had a couple of occasions where he just might have stood his ground just a little better and if there was a clubhouse issue, I'm looking right at PP - Price and Pedroia. Good luck to them - and good luck to whoever comes after Farrell. Personally I don't think Farrell was nor do I think that he wanted to be tough enough with these two as well as others.

Got to say though that it really did look as though the time had come! There is a hell of a lot more to this than knowing how to get along with younger players. The manager is the leader - he needs to lead and that means you got to have some space between you and the worker bees. You aren't one of the boys. When they act like children sometimes you just have to treat them that way.

You think Farrell is loyal, wait to you see DD's Yes Man.

Since this followed directly from your disdain of sabrmetrics. I think my conclusion was logical, even if not what you intended.

1. People claim baseball is random

2. People claim that the batting order doesn't matter that much

3. People say that the managers matter very little

I know the gag is that if you don't like an argument, just claim it's a strawman. I get it.

OK, but now you've already changed the wording in statement #2 and #3. And it's still not what people like myself are arguing.

It has nothing to do with sabremetrics. I am fine with that even the fringe stuff about lineups not mattering or managers moves don't matter, although i will mock it from time to time. I am not proposing a purge of statheads. LOL!! Not at all.
