As I said above, it was the correct move. Kimbrel has converted 25 straight saves and was 5-5 this year; he's been very good of late and has had 2 days off. It was a move that just didn't work.

Morales is a good hitter, so it's not like he gave it up to some stiff.

From MLB App: "According to Statcast, the ball was projected to travel 427 feet and left his bat at 106 MPH. Morales' HR came on a 97.1 MPH FB from Kimbrel, the fastest pitch the veteran slugger has hit out of the park during the Statcast ™ Era."

So, yeah...sometimes you have to tip your cap I guess.

Nice win and a win is what counts.

Farrell's decision gives us something to discuss. Win win!

I would have come back with Sale but I have no problem with Kimbrel being brought in either.

It's a long season and I want Sale to be effective in his 30, 31, 32 + starts. Save some bullets.

I have little faith in Kimbrel when it come to pitching a clean inning but I know jack s*** about the game compared to Farrell.

Holy s*** is Sale fun to watch.

Agree with all of the above. I'd have liked to see Sale finish it out, but Kimbrel has been dominant lately and was again today aside from one pitch. No issues with that decision.

A win is a win and I loved what Sale said about it. He gets it. i certainly would have been one of the guys who would have sent him back out for sure. They literally could not hit him and he really hadn't tired. The book says bring Kimbrel in. This is where i think feel has to play a role as opposed to the book. Win is a win and it does give us something to talk about. i guess I just don't like the book all the time.

@redsoxstats

Sale has been worth $12.3M through 4 starts. Red Sox are paying him $12M this year.

Thanks DUMBrowski!

In all fairness...i dont think anyone on here complained about the Sale trade. in fact, most of us were ecstatic as this was a no brainer trade to do.

BTW - while i was watching the game and Mookie cleared the bases with the double top 10 - i turned to my son and said "clutch hit". he corrected me and said that the stats based on weather pattern, pitcher, count in the AB, particular runners on the bases, defensive alignment meant that he was going to get a hit. it had nothing to do with "clutch". i felt dumb and lost all excitement over the bases clearing hit. oh well.

Your son obviously has had a bad upbringing, with unenlightened parents and is no doubt taught by tenured radicals in an underfunded school. You should have corrected him: "No, my son. What you meant was it was a 'clutch hit', an empirical fact, not the result of some unproven abstraction like 'clutch hitting'. Now go to your room."

You and your son were both wrong - the hit was pure randomness. :D

It's a darn shame that Mookie Clutch Betts couldn't do it again last night.

Why? Because clutch is not a repeatable skill. Mookie absolutely had a clutch hit two nights ago. Mookie is not a clutch hitter, however. You need to distinguish between clutch moments, which do exist, and clutch players, which do not.

Such nonsense.
