You can't talk about Naps without bringing up the Hall of Famer Nap Lajoie. He literally played for the Naps while also having the name Nap

They were actually named after him, as he was the player-manager...

But I would also think that WAR and especially the defensive component of it had to be calculated differently back then, due to the inability to review every defensive play against the standardized grids...

That Naps team had 322 errors in 140 games LOL I suspect a whole lot of things were different back then.

I cannot account for whether or not official scorers handled plays differently. Really, that can still be said about today's game, which is why "errors" is probably the most useless stat.

But a lot of stats and their definitions have changed over time. And as of now, 98 errors stands as the single season "modern day" record and is probably never going to broken.

Of course, prior to 1900, some 20 players were actually changed with as many or more, with 122 being the actual record, held by Herman Long (1889) and Billy Shindle (1890)...

Are we sure Devers wasn't playing for them in some sort of previous life reincarnation?

The Yankees signed Socrates Brito to a minor league deal.

My only real connection with Brito is a few years back in a 10-team NL-Only Fantasy League, Socrates was briefly part of my Ancient Greeks Squad, along with Pirates reliever Arquimedes Caminiero and Homer Bailey...

My only true wisdom is in knowing I know nothing about him.

He's AAAA material. He won't get many more at bats for the Bombers than I will...

So the Mariners have a reliever named Will Vest.

I really hope some day this guy has in his contract an option year that depends on him making a certain number of appearances...

Watching baseball this weekend has piqued my interest towards starting the following lists:

Countries: Jonathan India

Months: Dustin May

Posted
Countries: Domingo German and Frank German

Those are ethnicities, not countries :P

Domingo German could also be part of a days of the week list. Domingo is Sunday in Spanish

This a baseball forum, she's disqualified... unless you got to first base with her. If so, I hate you.

p.s. Morganna may qualify, since her name conjurs an island nation that may or may not be a mirage... though fans saw plenty of her on hardball fields in the 70s.

Does Gavin Lux count?

Posted

If so,

Andrew Benintendi

Mike Cameroon

Dennis Mar(k)tinez

El Salvador Perez

Greek George, not to be confused with the "Greek God of Walks."

Kenya Lofton

Cy Malis

Oma(n) Vizquel

Mariano Santana> San Marino

Swede(n) Larson

"Togo" Pittinger

"Uganda" Urbina

"Yemen" Mercedes

Too many "Jordan's" to name.

Jonathan India needs no tweaking.

I would say Lux counts, but not any of these, except for the Jordans
