Wow!!!

Depends on the other two guys, but this is awesome!!!!

I really hope it's not Devers, but we'll see. (Edit: or Groome.)

On the other hand, if we managed to do this without including Bradley or Rodriguez, then wow.

Without Moncada and Shaw, I really hope it's not Devers.

I like Swihart too, but if they aren't including Benintendi or JBJ in the deal I bet he's part of it too.

This is awesome!!! Who pitches opening day now?

Wow, this is nuts. I wonder if Moncada's lackluster performance in the Majors made it easier to deal him for Sale.

Must wait and see who the other prospects are, but totally have mixed reactions to this. Of course, Sale is phenomenal. A rotation of Sale, Price, Porcello, Rodriguez, and... whomever (Pomeranz, Buchholz, Wright) is just sick. And add to that the nice bullpen pickup they got and they have tons of pitching.

But losing both Moncada and Kopech...ugh. And if Devers is included too....then I'd hate the deal. Granted, none of those guys are on the MLB roster, but still. Moncada is going to be a great, great player, and Kopech has big-time potential.

Huge deals like this always leave me feeling excited and worried.

His sky high post Single A strikeout rate did ... but either way a tremendous get. I have a sense Devers might stay - I think the org might have chosen him over Moncada for 3B of the future.

Trading the #1 prospect in baseball plus the @1 young pitching prospect in our system plus probably 2 more players/prospects for one Ace doesn't make sense to me. For all of you who are elated, remember Sale's velocity is down and he could well get injured and only put in part of a season while we will be without numerous good prospects/players. I can't share anyone enthusiasm about this and hope it isn't true.

Is he? Moncada gave some interesting indications but the range of outcomes is very wide.

I don't think so. His best two positions reportedly were CF/2B both which weren't happening in Boston any time soon. at 3B you had Devers who could be just as good. Moncada has MVP potential but that's what you have to give up + to get a guy like Sale.

It makes sense for Both teams. Both Moncada and Kopech have some of the highest ceilings in the game but both have elements of risk. You give something to get something.

As long as the other two names aren't Groome/Devers I'll be happy. I bet someone like Basabe, Ockimey, Chavis make up the other two.

If the Yankees made this deal we'd all be complaining about it because we wouldn't care what prospects the Yankees gave up; we'd just see this CYA caliber starter they got on a wicked cheap contract.

Red Sox fans are a strange breed. We land the on of the top 5 starters in baseball with an extremely favorable contract for a guy that has no position next season on the Red Sox and a pitcher that is a few years away and people are worried. LOL!!

I think if it were Devers, it would have made the "main story".

But seriously ... Price-Porcello-Sale-Rodriguez shapes out to be a hell of a Top 4 with Pomeranz, Buchholz and Wright as very useful swing guys. I am a little surprised the Sox could do this without Rodriguez - who showed significant flashes of stardom last season.

I'm okay with this. I was thinking the other player was gonna be JBJ, Swihart, Devers or ERod.

This is a really strong deal for Boston - it is hard to cut it any other way.

Using the SoxProspects rankings, Boston traded its. No. 1, No. 5, No. 7 and No. 21 prospects for three years of the extremely team-friendly contract of ace Chris Sale.

I suspect the White Sox got a fair return.

I was kind of scared beforehand, but seeing what we gave up, I'm...strangely okay with this. Sucks to lose Moncada, and I still think we need a big bat more than another SP, but to land Sale while keeping Betts, Bogaerts, Benintendi, Bradley Rodriguez, Devers, Swihart, and Groome is rather stunning.

Pomeranz or Buchholz likely to be traded for a bat. Too much starting pitching now, with no guy having options, really. Sale, Price, Porcello, Rodriguez, Pomeranz, Clay, Wright. You can put Pomeranz in the bullpen, which might be helpful, but you gotta deal one of those starters.

EDIT: Maybe they trade either of those guys for prospects. Need to restock, even though they still have some very good players in the system.

The White Sox did fine - less major league certainty than I expected, but they got a ton of upside.
