He did - but he is also placing a very large bet on Kluber (I don't blame him - if you are going to wager, do it on your ace). Using Miller and Allen for stretches which limit their availability tonight.

Also a quiet hat tip to Pomeranz who allowed Farrell to keep the pen on schedule ... you could see right away Porcello was in trouble - strikeouts yes, but everything was high in the zone

IMO Tito set it up wonderfully for the Guardians. Yeah, he's put a lot of faith in Kubler but at the same time he's put the Sox in a position where they have to win 3 of 4. That's what I don't like about the 5 game format. If you lose the first one you're essentially screwed.

I know the Sox can do that, the question is whether they will.

It makes things urgent. I think last night once Porcello spit the bit, Guardians saw a chance to steal a game and they did. If Boston wins tonight (totally reasonable possibility) - series is tied and can close out at Fenway. Things always change very quickly and dramatically.

That fan is an *******. Taking video of himself confronting the manager during the game. f*** that guy. Perfect reaction by JF there.

I agree. I would have had security boot him out.

Am I?

You are an Attorney. Go look up Terminello Vs. New York.

if you want to throw a fan out of the ballpark for getting on the managers, you are getting close to the line. LOL!

and will encourage others to follow suit....
i can live with it. I can't live with people getting up in the middle of a Red Sox AB to get cotton candy or something else that they can't live without. Would these idiots get up during a movie or a play to get popcorn. f***ing annoying idiots. They should be removed by security.

Maybe not. But remove him from his seat and bring him to standing room only or other place where he can still watch the game without interfering with it.

In any case Farrell is on the job. He has to stand there and do his job. He has every reasonable expectation that he should be able to do so without that kind of distraction.

So your needs are more important than a Managers?

if the guy is in his seat, and not using foul language, it is just tough s*** for JF.

You don't use "in case you have a lead" BP management in a tie game in extras on the road, because one run and it's over. You deploy your best reliever to hold the fort as long as possible and figure out the rest afterwards. Lolwalter's strict adherence to "Bullpen roles" cost him the game, and the Orioles' season. Can't say I'm not extremely happy about that though.

especially when you haven't had a hit since the sixth inning.

The move is to walk Encarnacion to load the bases and then bring in Britton - your best bet to get the strikeout or a weak grounder. A smart manager clearly overthought this.

my thought too. Leaving Ubaldo in was incomprehensible. You needed to maximize the chances of an out - and have one less guy in the heart of the order to face - and pray for a miracle. Leaving Ubaldo in was conceding the game.

I've been defending JF all year but his lack of urgency in securing the 2nd seed when they were red hot might be a repeat of the Patriots blunder last year. Although I feel that baseball playoff seeding and momentum isnt quite as strong as it is in football. But given the huge advantage the sox have at Fenway I dont know why they didnt push harder (starting Owen???). JF's "F You" to the fan might be his season's epitaph. Buckley's article today about the Big Papi hangover also suggests this team lost focus and steam as the end of the season became about personal accolades than pushing forward as a team and getting that home field advantage.

Title is horrible. Content should be put in already posted threads (JF thread most likely).

How about the Guardians? Home v road?

It takes two to tango.

He sent his best two pitchers out there and we didn't get enough runs to support them or they allowed to many. Maybe both happened.

The Red Sox were on a really hot streak and they cooled off at the wrong time/

Also, I agree with the op about the f***ing retirement tour. I crucified jeter for his tour and consistently said that it cost his team a shot in the postseason. Looks like Papis killed us in the divisionals.....

Pessimism? Are you in a coma? Also, who appointed you the thread police? Stick this title up your ass - maybe it will loosen it up a little and you can breathe better asshat...

Farrell took a last place team from last year with a couple key additions and won the AL East. He's not going anywhere

Aren't you leaving out the fact that it was Farrell that was at the helm for two last place finishes before this year?

Posted
I concur but he also took a championship team and turned it into two consecutive last place teams...but anyone who says that the Red Sox at home are not considerably better doesn't know much baseball or the understand the fan base....big mistake by JF imo to lay up after clinching

This statement is laughable.

As far as Papi's retirement tour, there may be some truth to Papi being 'hung over' from the exhaustion, but to say that the team lost focus due to his retirement is off the mark. The team has said that they are more focused because they are playing for Papi.

The team had a couple of bad games. It's not because of lack of momentum. It's not because of lack of home field advantage. It's because they played badly. End of story.
