I hope you realize when you say it's the manager's job to make the players successful, you are taking them off the hook. If they strike out with the bases loaded, it's Farrell's fault Error by Benintendi leading to two unearned runs--Farrell's fault. Wright injures himself by stupidly getting too big a lead, Farrell's fault. Kimbrel walks 4 guys in the 9th, blame it on the manager. Lack of clutch hitting and low RISP OPS, John did it. My favorite is when Farrell takes a starter out. If the bullpen screws up, Farrell took him out too soon. If the starter gives up too many runs, he didn't get the hook soon enough (even though the bullpen stinks).

You're totally right, but Jf still needs to go, if only to try and light a fire (a sacrificial one, if you don't mind the double entendre) under these players asses.

I would expect it to happen to or row morning......

That way he gets to miss the A-Rod farewell.

That would really be like sticking the knife in and twisting it!

(LOL)

Two of my Yanqui friends at work are hoping Farrell gets an extension.

He has helped make their "seller" team look like they already have turned the corner.

I know the bats could be hitting better but NEVER go into a late inning with a 4-1 lead and leave a hapless hurler in for all those runs, then NEVER let the 2-1 lead go down the drain ....

Pitchers have to pitch, BUT THEY DO NOT HAVE TO KEEP PITCHING UP SCORES FOR THE ENEMY.

I must be too old ... this is just getting to me too much.

Re-read what i posted. Not his job to make them successful. His job is to put them in positions so that they have the greatest chance to succeed. I don't mind being quoted but please be accurate. I'm not sure that Farrell is any worse than average but your post is a joke.

I'm saying it. No one else has.

Ok, so who should've gone in the game instead of Zeigler last night? Barnes? Taz?

Farrell has made some dumb moves, but it's tough to "put players in a position to suceed" (gee, I hope I got that right...) when none of them seem to know how to do that.

it does seem like the players and/or the baseball gods are trying to get this guy fired. right now it seems no matter what move he makes or doesnt make it will blow up in his face.

Yup, he could resurrect Babe ruth and the guy would GIDP with bases loaded.

Our offensive juggernaut has morphed into a naut while our relief pitching is anything but. Who is to blame? The players? The general attitude in the locker room? I find some of these failings hard to put on JF's shoulders, but at seasons end, he will be a target. The manager is easier to change than the players. Maybe someone else could do better is the idea. It appears we will slide out of the playoffs soon and if that happens, young players should be brought up to replace the older and under performing guys. Be good to get a decent look at those we think of as having a future in September.

Yup, if the Sox don't make the playoffs, i don't have a problem with JF getting his walking papers.

But, to do it now, when they're just a few games out of first would be just stupid.

I'm sure it'll make some fans feel better, but it wont do much for the team.

We don't really know what it would do for the team. They did play better last year when JF left. That might have been a coincidence or it might not.

Right now the team looks like a sad sack of s***.

Farrell left for medical reasons. He wasn't fired.

I think that makes a difference.

I think fear of getting traded in the off-season by the new Pres of Baseball Ops could've been just as big a motivator for the players last year as removing the manager.

Not sure what other changes they could possibly make now. There are no other guys to bring up from the farm. Any trade would be for a guy that would have to go through waivers.

Yeah, the team just seemed to be playing a better brand of ball under Lovullo, but it might have had little to do with him.

If people are worried about Lovullo being the manager, why did DD give him a contract ex. To keep him away from Atlanta? Next in line? He's making great $$$ being the bench coach.

i think last year was coincidence. that being said, i would not be upset if the fired Farrell today. i do not believe he earned to be fired by his "moves" or "not moves" but sometimes the organization has to have someone fall on their sword to try and motivate. does that always work (or even ever work?)? i dont know. but i would get it if they tried.

If they are unhappy with him though, why wait that long?

If you think he's doing a good job and is your guy, you keep him. If you think you'd be better off without him, move him ASAP.

I am disappointed that when I logged on this morning that brain dead Farrell is still the manager. The reality is that if he did not get cancer last year, he would have been fired. It would have been bad PR. He has been in remission long enough.

What will come first: Farrell is fired or @jessicamorantv tweets again?

You have to know you have a better answer - now it sounds like Lovullo would be one. But it's not like he is locked in a basement when these decisions are being made (if the decisions bum you out). And I am not sure he would be gung ho given the optics (basically stabbing his best friend in the back).

One thing I do think he should do now is to - ducking a lightning bolt - start using Buchholz more as one of the real setup options. He has the best stuff of any of the relievers, and he has been effective the last few times out - and he can (or should) handle more than 3 outs at a time.

Buchholz has been much better in the pen. He should be left there for the remainder of the season. I'd rather they bring up Owens for a spot start than have Buchholz put back in the rotation.

You mean waive Buch, right?

Badly constructed bullpen. Buchholz has yet to done anything as a reliever, he appears sporadically, mostly when the team is well behind. Him getting yet another start is blasphemy at this point. But whatever.

Then you have 2 LOOGY that are constantly up and down. Abad has to find a train that exit Boston by nightfall.
