How many teams are in your league, and how much is the budget?

10 teams, $260, I think it was just basic auction draft settings for an ESPN league, like I said, there was a lot of stupidity of people bidding absurd amounts of money on star players/players they wanted. I live in Maryland with Orioles fans, so naturally ,Machado went for $45, Adam Jones went for $40 and Chris Davis went for $30.. In comparison I got Donaldson and GoldSchmidt for $40 each and Mookie Betts for $25.

Nobody had really done an auction before, and you'd think with money on the line people would research/be smarter, but not my co-workers. Justin Morneau got drafted for $1 for some reason and that same guy dropped DJ Lemahieu the day before opening day for Wilson Ramos, so I snagged Lemahieu right away.

I forgot how fun fantasy baseball is, especially with money on the line, I just wish I was playing with smarter people to get a better idea of what I'm doing/what works lol.

$260 is a bigger budget than my leagues, but even so, $84 and $72 are ridiculous prices. Those fantasy owners must be newbies.

It's early, and maybe once the players get a better feel for the second base slide rule it won't seem so bad, but right now, I am really not liking it.

I understand the need to try to protect the middle infielders from injury. Utley's slide last year was blatant, and that type of slide should be called. But I think umpires have to use reasonable judgment on that call. Baserunners need to be able to break up the double play. That's part of baseball.

They are able to break up the double play. The rule does not prevent that. What it does prevent is people hurling their bodies at infielders without at least making the effort to touch the corresponding base.

Holy crap, Madison Bumgarner owns Clayton Kershaw hard. Not only has he beat him in head to head matchups multiple times, he has also homered twice off of him.

There really is going to be a gray area with this particular rule. A good baserunner can very possibly hit the ground get the bag and make a real effort to take out the fielder. Utley's slide was nasty but within the rules of the game at that time. He plays hard. i kind of like the rule but I think early on there is apt to be an overreaction to what it is supposed to do. I was a second b-man but I think that if there is any question the advantage should go to the baserunner.

Both the Nats and the O's wimped out and postponed their games. They can't handle 40 degrees and occasional mixed precipitation? Pathetic. That's perfect baseball weather for me.

I understand all that. Let me clarify. I am not against the idea of trying to prevent "dirty" slides to keep middle infielders from getting injured. I am against the lack of judgment or common sense that has been used in these calls, particularly Rasmus' slide.

The umpires made the correct call, according to the way the rule is stated. I can't argue that. But seriously, ending the game on a double play under this rule, when turning the DP was never going to be turned regardless of the slide, is ridiculous. There was no "dirty" slide there either.

There has to be room for better judgment on that play. As it stands, the rule is not serving its intended purpose.

That was a very good game.

Consider me a huge Kershaw fan.

Yes, there is a lot of gray area, and IMO, the umpires need to use some better judgment with that ruling. I have nothing against a rule to try to protect players. But goodness, the players have to be allowed to play the game. And they have to be allowed to play hard, without fear of losing a game because they did not "control their slide".

In the middle of a late inning rally, a player running to 2nd base is not going to be thinking about slowing down and sliding early so that he makes sure he doesn't overslide the bag. That's just silly.

Should we then make a rule where outfielders are not allowed to run into the wall when attempting to catch a fly ball? For their own safety? We certainly don't want them getting injured either.

I hate seeing injuries, but they're part of any sport. Let the players play the game.

The Os and the Nats are wimps. What do you expect?

If the league took a vote from all the second basemen who played the game, I believe that the new rule would be voted down by a landslide.... and the rule was implemented to protect them. YOTN would you call this irony?

Trevor Story needs to stop showing up his team's veterans. Know your place, rook.

He's lucky Helton and Tulowitzki are gone, or else he'd have some problems by now.

How in the heck are the Os 5-0?

Time to put an end to that nonsense.

They are already talking world series in Baltimore. Orioles have some extremely delusional, idiotic fans.

What did Trevor Story do in regards to showing up his teammate? I missed this and when I tried googling all I found was articles about his home run total, records he is setting, and things of that nature.

I'm sorry you went to the trouble of Googling. I was being facetious about his HR spree.

The good thing about their fast start is they are not the New York Yankees.

Well, this is true.

However, the Os are probably the next worst thing.

First pitch at the Phillies opening day was thrown by a cop who got wounded in an ambush. Being Philly, I'm sure the crowd booed.

*they didn't, just perpetuating the running joke about Philly booing everything.

18/18. Almost all of them had a standout identifying feature. PNC park had the river, Miller Park has a weird roof, Yankee Stadium sucks. Plus, on the few that were harder to identify, they had to reuse stadiums from previous questions for the multiple-choice answers. It was easy to guess a stadium when two of the three other answers had already been used. Edited by Youk Of The Nation
