Reverse lock theory in effect. One of the best looking young starters in baseball facing off a bag of garbage. The Red Sox win!

Reverse lock magic it is!

This field looks even shittier in person. It's not in a great neighborhood at all. I was there for a Rays-A's game in 2010. Neither team was good. We walked up to the box office in the 1st inning and got tickets right behind the A's bullpen in the first row. With all the foul territory, it still looked far away.

It's a total s*** dump.

Good win. Any win is a good win.

This.

I don't care how we get them right now as long as we win.

Winners in 3 of our last 4...... do I dare say building some confidence???

This was a game until the last out.

Miley was very fortunate today. I doubt that he will win many games in this fashion this season. He has to do better preventing batters from getting on base.

In any case, the Sox were able to score just enough to beat one of the best pitchers they will face this year.

Onward!

Have you seen King Felix's stats this year? Early favorite for AL CY imo. We got him coming up this weekend. Sonny is good, but not one of the best we'll see all year. We have the possibility of seeing Harvey, anyone on the Tigers' staff that is deadly, and cannot overlook Weaver. We might see him on the next home stand, maybe even at the game I'm going to. I haven't calculated who's slated to pitch in that series yet, since it's still too far out.

Hard to believe that the Sox lead 1-0 after seeing Miley put so many on base.

Need runs!

"Wade Miley allowed 9 baserunners (5H+4BB) and 0R in 6.2IP today. The most BRs allowed w/ 0 runs in 6.2IP? Wade Miley, 14 on 8.21.14 #Houdini

Miley also allowed 11 baserunners on 7.30.14 in 6.2IP with no runs. 9 is nothing."

He sucks, pure and simple.

I would have to disagree with that assessment, but I'll spare you the stats.

He's not an ace, but he is not a 6+ ERA pitcher either. I'll agree that allowing that many baserunners is asking for trouble, but I will take his 6 2/3 IP with 0 runs any day of the week.

He's not a 6+ ERA pitcher. There aren't too many of those that pitch for more than 1 season. He's probably a 4.5+ ERA guy which has his needle on boderline stinks.

Well, no one expected him to be an ace. His career ERA is 3.92, and that is with his 6.91 ERA from this year averaged in. Say he is a 4.5 ERA guy. Again, think quality start. If he pitches 6 innings and gives up 3 runs, I'd take that. The offense is supposed to be able to win those games.

Let's just say when I saw the title I thought it was a safe bet you weren't the author.

LOL Very safe bet.

Although a quality start of 6 innings and 3 runs is a 4.5 ERA, it will not work out evenly like that. His quality start today with a 0 ERA will be balanced out by a couple of games with 6 ERAs. If he gets 10 QS, how good is that? In 30 starts, that would be a 4 or a 5. Less than 10 QS in 30 starts, and he is a bad 4 or 5.

There's still some hope for Miley. Hopefully some of the early suckness can be chalked up to adjusting to new team and new league. One of the reasons the Sox signed him, I'm sure, was his good road splits.

Good win. Good series. Kind of.....sort of....

The thing with the pitchers we have, even when they don't give up many runs, it's never dominant. It's always by their skin of their teeth. It always could have gotten away.

Even if our pitching staff settled down and do what they are suppose to do, it may result in wins, but it's not fan friendly.

Hey, Will Middlebrooks just cranked a homer off of Seattle.........

I realize that a 4.5 ERA does not mean that a pitcher will have a 4.5 ERA every game. The point is, this team was not built based on the idea of having its rotation dominate lineups. It was built on the philosophy that the rotation would pitch well enough to keep the team in most games, and the offense would take it from there. If a starter is going 5-7 innings giving up 3-4 runs on most outings (roughly 4.5 ERA), we should be able to win a lot of those games. Sure, there will be games when the starter gives up more runs, but there will also be games where he give up fewer runs.
