There was only one member of my family I really liked, my grandmother. She died when I was thirteen. She had cancer and it was awful to be around her at the end, knowing she was so sick and there was nothing that could be done.

I don't think the marines in Aliens were hardened. Seems like corporate military with tons of weapons, got paid good, never saw anything. They talk more about getting strange then seem like they are battle tested. Many of the Marine characters didn't do too well handling it, dang, the person in control only had 1 combat drop including the one they were one, but had 28 simulated. And, it being a movie you always have to have someone freak out more than normal. It's just Hudson freaked out better than any other war movie which makes it so quotable.

A couple of comments about today's game. Unfortunately, the injuries to Victorino and Castillo are prolonging the ill-fated Craig experiment. The guy is toast.

 

As for Miley, I was hoping that he would be a crafty lefty who would benefit from a change of leagues, but I am not surprised at what I am seeing from him. I would have been surprised if we got a good pitcher from Arizona in return for the 2 bags of trash that we sent to them in return. What did surprise me was giving this guy a contract extension before Spring Training. He has some nice financial security. Good for him, but the fans have no feelings of security when he is on the mound.

 

Finally, Holt needs to play everyday.

I send my best Karma to you............ I'm mid 40's. Parents are gone.......... when people in your life leave you it is a strange experience.

 

My mother once told me after her 6th sibling passed away and there was only one left. She said when the people leave in life that know your whole life story. The good and the bad of it, you feel very alone and that something in you is lost.

Miley was pretty miserable last year. I thought that the league had caught up to his mediocre stuff and that the NL had the book on him. Sometimes a change of league's can help a guy like that for a year or two. I just shake my head when I think about the extension.

Having Napoli have a great day on Saturday while Ortiz goes 0 for 5, and close to vise versa the day before isn't going to get the job done. The team must hit in sync. This home stand is going to tell us an awful lot about our team. If we suck on these three series, May or not, we will be in deep s***.

I always feel the same way User when someone my life leaves me. You feel diminished in a lot of ways. Heck, when I heard VA's husband had lost his battle with that dreaded disease I felt bummed out and I had never met the man. I think it is good that we feel that way. It makes us more human and sympathetic to the plight of others. It's not a bad character trait to have. Very sorry to hear of your loss.

Extended family member died. They lived in another city, and my dad really wanted to go. Since he can't drive anymore because of vision problems, I had to drive him there and go through the whole ordeal.
