If you cut Craig, you're on the hook for the whole nut

Benny Boy bungled that one. He sold very cheap on a year and a half of Lackey-- with the full year being at a huge discount. He brought back almost nothing.

Miley was a mediocre pitcher in the AL West last year and has steadily declined since his rookie campaign. He also has trouble with the HR. Not sure what they thought they were getting. I've been calling the trade for him a disaster since day 1, and the first month thus far has proven me correct

Should give Miley till mid May before considering Johnson or ERod as replacement. He pitch well in 2 of this 4 start. His problem seems to be not able to throw an offspeed pitch when needed.

What I've seen is he usually keep the fastball at the knees in his good starts. And he works very quickly. Just run him out there for 2-3 more weeks.

I wouldn't call Kelly almost nothing. He is their best starter at the moment. I'm glad we ditch Lackey, he wasn't going to pitch for us in 2015.

Yeah I'm surprised I don't see Johnson replace Miley. Barnes called and insered into the closer role and the Red Sox go hard after Hamels with Owens, Margot, and Rodriguez.

Hamels

Bucholz

Porcello

Kelly

Johnson

Not too bad at all.

Congratulations, you should be proud. Here, have a cookie.

He's been hit hard over the first 10% of the season. CUT BAIT!

It's a disaster! Webster and RDLR were stars here!

Owens, Margot and Rodriguez for Hamels?

Nope.

thats my bad i didn't see how good Rodriguez has been! Def would need two of those three and another pretty good piece though

Rodriguez, Johnson and Owens would be tough for me to move. I like Hamels ok, but not enough to move more than one of those three.

Swihart is untouchable. Trade everyone else.

IMO, he didn't get enough value in return.

The Phillies are trying to convince the Red Sox to trade for closer Jonathan Papelbon, according to the Boston Globe.

Such a deal could make sense for Boston considering that current closer Koji Uehara has lost a bit of velocity and owns an uncharacterstic 4.15 ERA with two runs and five hits allowed in his last 2 1/3 innings.

Papelbon, on the other hand, has been lights-out. He is 4-fof-4 in save opportunities and had not yielded a run until Sunday. He is also quite familiar with pitching at Fenway, having served as the Red Sox closer from 2006 through 2011. Papelbon is one of only a handful of major league closers that have maintained that role for more than a few years.

This would be interesting. I wonder if the Papelbon hate here would abate if trusted Benny sees fit to bring him back.

Miley has been awful - at the same time, he's 28 - his strikeout rate has plunged and his walk rate has skyrocketed ... both well outside of career norms. Considering that he pitched in a launching pad in Arizona (even facing the pitcher hitting), the strong likelihood is that this will settle down.

They won't do it. Way too expensive, especially with the team already over the tax cap.

I wouldn't mind it as long as Philly ate a lot of the money and Sox didn't have to give up any top level prospects. Papelbon is still a very good closer.

You guys really do lap it up, huh? Kelly has the best stuff, no doubt. But he doesn't stay healthy, doesn't K people and walks too many. He's a reliever in waiting

His K-rate has been fine so far, but nobody is confusing him with Pedro Martinez

The Phillies won't pay s***. Not how they roll.

Well if we want to do something re: Hamels, better do it soon. St Louis may be looking for a pitcher now with Wainright out. And as far as Papelbon is concerned, I'd rather they focus on the starting rotation than a closer. And everything I've read indicates that he's really a s*** in the clubhouse these days, not sure if that's part of his plan to get traded or not but still....

You want to watch 4 1/2 years of this garbage?

Too early to write him off. Give him till July. But he's a guy they targeted for the long term with that 4+ year of control.

I'm wondering if the Sox are giving any thought to moving Mookie down in the order and maybe hitting Holt lead off.

The way things are going, they'll do it right at the exact moment Holt is about to cool off as his BABip plummets. :)
