Maybe his ceiling is 4th OF/defensive replacement. Unless you really can get away with his subpar bat for superior CF defense. There must be some advance stats on how many runs he saves?

JBJ saved 14 runs last season in 127 games. Over a full season, his defense would be worth about 2 games. His overall WAR last year was .5, despite his very pathetic offense. So yes, we could get away with his subpar bat (not as subpar as he was in 2014), provided that the guys who are supposed to hit actually do.

Bradley is hitting very well at AAA. If the FO is not going to make the moves necessary to compete in 2015, they should give JBJ a full shot or trade him. There is no sense keeping him in AAA for the full season. The big question is whose playing time would get sacrificed in order for him to play -- Hanley, Betts, or Castillo.

At least they should give him a couple of months, and see what happens. This season is likely over anyways.

I agree, but who sits to give him time, or do they do a Castillo/Bradley platoon?

I would share the load at DH and 1B (Ortiz, Hanley, Nap.). I would go with Castillo, Betts and Bradley in the OF and see what happens.

Since Castillo has shown very little on both sides of the ball and has botched some plays I say send him down to refine his skills and make Bradley an everyday player for a long stint. Otherwise we may never know definitively if he can hit in MLB or not. Sitting on the bench will not answer the question.

I would not just trade Bradley to just trade him. I think that he has value.

Send him back to Cuba and get him a job in the rejuvenated Tourism Bureau.

Probably another waste of money. I was against his signing. He belongs in Portland now. He needs to have better game skills and knowledge to play MLB.

If he were a phenom he would be playing like one. Now he is just playing like an over paid 27-28 year old rookie.

Which he is.

I agree that JBJ should not be called if he is not going to be an everyday player. Sitting on the bench most of the time will not do any good. IMO, that's the reason why he has not been called up and the Sox signed De Aza instead.

He is a superior outfielder currently hitting over 330 at the AAA level. At the major league level you have an inferior outfield with players who are not hitting to the level that whatever somebody thinks that they should be hitting to. How could anybody really argue against not giving this guy another shot at an everyday experience?

3 more hits for JBJ = .325

Outside of the ones that have already been brought up this year (and possibly sent back) he continues to be the "prospect " who is putting up the best numbers. Seems like he should get another shot. If your minor league system is going to have credibility isn't that how it should work? That would seem to make sense - maybe too much sense.

The problem is that that's not how prospect evaluations work. A 26-year old demolishing AAA pitching for the third year in a row doesn't have the same upside as a 20-year old doing the same. As people have said ad-nauseum in this thread, we all know JBJ can hit AAA pitching, it's his ability to hit MLB pitching that's in question. If he wants another shot, he has to earn it.

I can't make sense of his exile. The only thing that I can think of is that they are shopping him as part of a trade package and they don't want to ruin his rebuilt trade value by risking that he will not hit again at the big league level. Just a guess.

This is what I was thinking as well. Probably he is going to be part of a trade package, but they are waiting to pull the trigger in the right moment. Thing is that the team is already done this season. I will not be surprised if they wait until offseason and use him as a trade chip.

how does he earn it? I have no clue how prospect evaluations are done. I don't care. Unfortunately in the Red Sox organization, I don't see any 20 year olds tearing anything up.

Pretty much my thoughts as well.

Are you serious? Maybe you're talking specifically about guys close to joining the MLB squad, but otherwise Rafael Devers, Javi Guerra and Mauricio Dubon are demolishing minor league pitching in the lower rungs of the org.

Look, it's hard to take you seriously when you say in one breath that you "don't understand or care how valuations work" then turn around and say "you don't see any kids demolishing anything". If you don't understand or care to understand how valuations work, your opinion comes off as arrogant and of little value.

As for JBJ, all he can do is keep hitting. They will give him another chance, but if he sucks again, his next chance may be in another org.

Bradley has a .539 OPS in 543 MLB PA. There's nothing perplexing about why he's not on the roster right now. It's common sense. He has demonstrated no ability whatsoever to handle MLB pitching, while killing AAA pitching. He has earned the AAAA moniker all for himself.

The fact that a700 is whining about JBJ's stay at AAA further cements the idea that he's just a contrarian.

Now's Bradley's chance with the Hanley injury. If he can hit, he may stay up for good.

I wonder what will constitute hitting? Will .240-.250 and about a .300 OBP be enough?

Posted
If he hits .250, he's an everyday RF for us.

That's about what I am thinking too.

It will be nice to see an outfield with plus defense.

Too bad we loose Hanley's bat in this move.

Four potential starting players for the Red Sox are now in the PawSox lineup tonight...Castillo, Victorino, Hannigan and Craig. Not me mention that "Cy Young" Kelly and Masterson are down as well, but Masterson is coming back up.

Masterson has been back up since Tuesday, I believe.

Wright had a CG game loss, 1R last night. Can Masterson pitch 3 inning Sunday without blowing up? We'll see.
It's probably a safe bet that he doesn't give us a quality start. BTW, a QS needs to be redefined in a post steroid age. Six innings and 3 Runs is a 4.5 ERA -- basically you suck. That is not quality. They need to add an inning or subtract a run or both. It is a meaningless stat. Here's one that should generate some debate. I think that in today's game a QS is more meaningless than a Win for a pitcher. At least the win was an accomplishment getting your team a victory. A QS isn't quality and it often doesn't get your team a victory. It's a bogus stat.
