Tanaka pitched for Scanton @ McCoy Stadium this afternoon and didn't fare so well

Masahiro Tanaka made an MLB rehab start for Scranton and allowed three runs on four hits in 3.0 innings pitched. Jackie Bradley, Jr. doubled and homered against Tanaka, who threw 62 pitches. Pawtucket (24-24) dropped its fifth straight contest and was swept in a series for just the second time this season.

Bradley homers and doubles off Tanaka...beautiful. Kind of ironic or something.

6 perfect innings. He has nothing more to prove down there. Makes me a little nervous. I'm not so sure many of the moves made by the front office lately have been good ones. I hope they don't do something foolish with him. There is a chance that he is as good as any of the "untouchable 3" we have in Boston right now.

Ben needs to figure out which of these kids is for real with the biggest upside and install him in our rotation. The other one should be packaged in a trade for Cole Hamels. That would get this season back on track and would differentiate us from the rest of the ALE.

Trading for Cole Hamels is a terrible idea, one which I'm not surprised you're the person advocating for it the most, so you can whine about it when it backfires terribly.

We got it, you don't like Hamels.

You like overpay garbage, like wounded horses like Lee and mediocre arms without good stuff like Porcello.... but wait he's young.

Owens gets the start tonight. With Barnes, Wright, and Rodriguez already promoted and Johnson pitching like someone who should be, we might find out a little bit about how motivated this kid is. He has been highly regarded by all actually ahead of all except Rodriguez. He should be ready to start moving on up. Hope he gets it done.

Owens off to a decent start. He is beginning to look like a solid -3-or 4 option. I guess possibly even trade bait but I hope not.

Masterson lasted 1 and 2/3 today. I feel for him but it just isn't working. JBJ 3 more hits.
He's toast. He got a $9 million parting gift. No one else was going to give him that.

Went to a Seadogs game today. Great place to watch a game but couldn't see much help coming. Tejada at third maybe. Watched Mike Yastrezmski hit one out though.

Now that I have had a chance to digest this a bit. I read an article a few months ago stating that the Sox farm system was ranked #2 overall. It was a feel good for sure. We know that the core of young pitchers in pawtucket have potential but they must include their double A franchise as well when determining their rankings. Is there more down there than i saw today or does Portland no longer count? just a few years ago the best talent showcased at Double A. A great place to see a game though.

Portland is not great - the system's power right now seems to be Pawtucket and Greenville ... that said Margot could be in Portland by the end of the year, as could Moncada and (perhaps) Devers

I've seen Mike Yaz play the Red Sox in Spring Training the last couple of years. Probably his biggest obstacle is that he is on the small side.

He did look small. I could see a Captain resemblance when he was at the plate though. He pounded the home run.

Like I said, pitching in Pawtucket looks to be the strength. Or it was. With respect to the hitters, we have seen them for a good amount of time now. With the "strength" of your system not at the double A level at this time, it tells me that whether they deserve to be considered number 2 or not is very very debatable. It is a wait and see approach for me I guess. I don't know who determines who the next stars are going to be, but I think that for me I am going to wait until they actually move up though the system and prove that they can do something before I am going to get excited. In Portland, I saw one player that I thought looked even big enough to play at the next level. Tejada(sp) - third base.

How and why would you know better than the people who scout players for a living whether or not the team's overall ranking is deserved? It's a serious question, and not meant to start a fight, because the people who determine this stuff aren't idiots.

I don't know better. I'm just curbing my enthusiasm for the youngsters until I actually see them do something. Like many fans I get a little caught up in the hype on occasion. I hope that the people doing the scouting are the best in the game.
