I do not want to see Craig traded. He has said that the way he felt coming into camp this year and the way he felt coming into camp last year are like day and night. That doesn't necessarily mean anything, but there is reason to be cautiously optimistic about him. At this point, unless a trade comes along that just blows them out of the water, I think it would be wise for the FO to hold on to what we have and reassess a couple of months into the season.

If Craig has a good spring it could mean that he has shaken his injuries off and is now well and ready to play. I too would be very leery right now trading him, especially since Victorino looks to be on the shelf again and the spectre of putting Bradley into that lineup with a weak hitter in Vazquez already penciled into the lineup. With our pitching up in the air we need every bat we can get in that order.

If Vic goes down, it's Castillo, not Craig that would be penciled in.

Castillo should start in CF and Betts in RF anyway, as is. I love Vic but his time has passed. Regardless, JBJ is going to be in Pawtucket for a while so he can work on his swing, with or without Craig and Vic.

If Victorino can't go and Craig hits like he has in the past, that is a classic no brainer. We know 0 about Castillo. He very well might be a very good player for us someday. Craig, Betts, Ramirez. Key = Victorino is hurt ( again) and Craig has returned to form of old. I feel bad for JBJ - great glove but he ain't fitting in here.

Should have traded Bogaerts when people still thought he was good smdh
He hit a nice bomb today. Plus power when he gets the barrel on the ball. Edited by a700hitter

We agree on Craig. He was really, really good 2 years ago. It's too early to know if he'll have a place on this team, but I would hate to see the Sox trade him and have him rake somewhere else.

Early reports on him out of ST give reason to be optimistic. He's letting the ball get deep and showing more patience, something he didn't show a lot of last year.

Staying inside the baseball, even when he's out in front he's keeping his hands inside the ball. Something he got away from last year.

Kid has easy, easy, easy pop. Just absolutely jumps off his bat.

If he continues to approach his at bats with an up the middle or oppo field approach, he's going to be putting up middle of the order numbers in the number 7/8 slot.

It is more important for the team that he steps up his game on the defensive side of the ball.

While home runs by XB would be nice I'd be happy if he could just keep the line moving.

Ropes to the gaps on a regular basis would be nice to see.

The B or C team of Sox beat the Cards today, 3-0.

Betts had another hit and apparently Miley did nothing to concern anyone.

Does that mean he did something good?

I like the way you put that.

Cheering hard for Bobby Layne here. He keeps getting it done.

CP, you are showing your age. I don't think the old Steelers and Lions QB will be much help this year, but Tommy might be. ;)

Bogaerts has been a good hitter his whole life except for 3-4 months last year. It's a head scratcher why so many people worry whether he really is much of a hitter at the ripe old age of 22. I won't lose any sleep over his fielding either, but maybe that's just me.

Check the box score today. It looks like our pitchng was rock solid---three good innings out of Masterson while the bullpen was lock down. Hard to make much of ST games, though. Everyone is getting their stuff together and no one is in mid-season shape by a long shot, but from I've heard there seems to be a strong comaradarie developing on the team and that is a good sign and this time around Buchholz is participating and not nursing a hangnail or other malady. I wish I could get some of the games but my MLB package doesn't kick in until the regular season. I'll see if I can get a radio feed on my computer.

I'm not worried about Bogaerts or our offense at all. Defensively, I have to believe that Bogaerts will be improved over last year, though I was reading today that his throws to first are still inconsistent. Anyway, the more I read/see about things going on in ST, the more excited I get. Not too much longer!

It's early, but there are so many promising signs. Masterson looked good today, but he acknowledges that that is probably due more to the bats not being ready than anything else. Still, nice to see.

whoops on that one - I don't think that he wore a facemask either. I do like Tommy though.

I think that his fielding will be fine. When he figures out all of the connections between his lower and upper body, he will be fine. Maybe even better than fine. He is getting to balls that he couldn't get to last year. Once he gets his legs set the way they should be, he will get it done. His throws will be ok. He has done the work!

Where did they send Moncado to start camp?

What is the word on Castillo's injury? Is it the same injury that shut him down in Winter Ball?

As far as I know the Sox are still waiting for the results of Moncada's drug test or so they say. He has not been signed yet, I believe.

Castillo has an oblique strain now. He had a sore thumb in winter ball.

So Victorino is healthy and Castillo is banged up? Go figure.

I think from now on I'll think of Victorino as 'day-to-day' even when he's playing.

Sometimes inning to inning. How many times has he been pulled from the game in the middle innings due to various maladies. He's a great guy but fragile as hell.
