Health and close-game luck will influence any prognostication. The 2012 Orioles went something like 17-2 in one-run games or something. The 2013 Cardinals had a collective OPS of .820 or something with RISP. The 2012 Red Sox were decimated by injury, while the 2013 Red Sox largely weren't.

Well Fred, that's really all we can do. Hope that they're healthy and see what they can do. This might be as optimistic a thought as I'll see from you, so I'll take it!

Here I have not a shred of power to do anything so when things seem to go South all I can do is show frustration. Well, you kind of just did say it, didn't you? That's the only way I know to root for my team. Hope for the best and never give up, even when the odds seem long. Believe me, I get extremely frustrated during some of the games. You would not want to watch a game with me when things are going bad. LOL That's part of what being a fan is all about.

 

But once I've let my emotions calm down and my rational thinking can take over, I know it's not the end of the world.

The Sox will be as good as their starting pitching. I still believe that BC will get an ace mid-season to support a competitive team. I'm not saying the Sox will make the playoffs, but they will be more competitive then the 2014 version. I think the AL East being wide open will help the Sox.

The Orioles won the AL East without an ace starting pitcher last season. The Atlanta Braves with Maddux, Glavine, and Smoltz won only one World Series. The Florida Marlins have won two championships in the last couple of decades. The Giants and Royals made the World Series as wild card teams. There is no formula or guarantee as to what makes a successful team.

 

The Red Sox line-up is very much improved. The starting pitching is lacking an identifiable ace but potentially much improved and deep. The Sox entered 2013 with as many questions as they are facing this season. That season turned out okay, and I am optimistic as to their chances this season.
