Everyone who wasn't a fan in 99 should watch MLBEpic Moments: Pedro's Peak on the MLB Network. It was a great year to be a Sox fan and really set the stage for the success a few years later.

I won't argue that point with you mvp because you were there in '99 and I wasn't until the following year but please enlighten me about what was so good about that year? I do remember that AS Game, reception for Ted Williams, the strikeout binge by Pedro and his great 23-4 record that season---not to mention his relief gem against the Guardians in the playoffs and his win over Clemens in the third game of the ALCS. They are all worth putting into the treasure trove, but didn't the fact the MFY beat the Red Sox in five that fall and the fact that team won the second of what would become three WS Titles in a row the next year and four of five overall, didn't that take a lot of the shine out of the '99 season?

WIt was one of the years where I completely loved the team. Was it a juggernaut? Nope. Pedro was having one of the greatest seasons of all time. The team went down 0-2 to the Guardians with Pedro left for dead. Sox hammered away at the Guardians in games 3 and 4. Then Pedro had his amazing game 5.

For me, that season erased a lot of the "this team is cursed" bs I grew up with. Did they beat the Yankees? No. But it was the first year I felt they could actually compete with them. It gave me hope for the future.

I'm not such a miserable prick that not winning a WS doesn't ruin a fun season for me. You can't win every year. If someone doesn't enjoy baseball enough that they need to s*** on a team because they overachieved but didn't win the WS, they should find something else to do.

Question answered mvp. Thanks. I think that's what separates us from Yankee fans. To them winning a WS is like a birthright and they seem to have this feeling of entitlement. Maybe having gone one for 14 so far in this century in that regard might temper those feelings somewhat. I think Red Sox fans just want a team that will contend every year because if we can keep doing that a title or two or three might be in the offing down the road.

I freely admit to feeling somewhat entitled as a Sox fan.

It comes from many years of just hoping that the Sox would be good. And then seeing them be so for so long. I expect the Sox to put a competitive and mostly winning team on the field each year.

I do not expect that the Sox will be in the hunt for a WS title each year.

Well said Spud. We are supposed to be entitled as Red Sox fans so long as that entitlement means we should be contending every year and not expect a WS Title along with it. 2012 and 2014 were car wrecks that Sox fans were NOT entitled to, from the rotten ST non-program Farrell ran, from that miserable and wrong headed signing of Drew, to the utter failure of Bradley and Middlebrooks and disappointing showing of Bogaerts. Question.....You or others out there would think, say, a division title this year would make up for 2014 or does it need to me a little more like at least an AL Championship? Food for thought.

Honestly I could be satisfied with second in the division. That would be a leap forward from 2014.

Beyond that is bonus time. I could live with that, too.

Are you looking at Red Sox Destinations or are you booking it independently?

I tried both and it's cheaper independently for me. Allthough I do like the whole idea of the Red Sox Destinations as everything is planned for you.

I went with Red Sox Destinations when Rice was inducted. It is a first class operation. They handle everything dor you. It was a wonderful experience. Although there was premium for booking with them, I thought it was a very good deal for what you got.

Triple "R" I've taken about a dozen trips with Red Sox Destinations and they are a class operation. The only bummer is if you go early in the season through them they sit you up near the Coke sign where that damn wind blows in from the bay. You literally freeze your ass off. Otherwise the operation is great. You get to go on the field, into the Green Monster, meet a member of the Sox and have a nice lunch, not to mention get to see batting practice from a very nice vantage point. I would be right there with 700 Hitter for the induction of Pedey but I have to budget my money for those two Red Sox trips I allow myself each season. If, however, se succeed in selling a time share that we no longer use, I will have enough cash for the Coopertown Trip. Have you ever taken a Red Sox trip through RSD? I think it's worth it.

I am watching this show on MLB about Randy Johnson. We started to have a discussion about the pitchers in this Hall of Fame class (Pedro, Randy Johnson and Smoltz). I posed the question if you had to win one game or one series, which of the three in his prime you would pick for your team. There was agreement that it would be Pedro -- not even close. Of course, we are Red Sox fans, but I think it is a no-brainer. It would be a really nice problem to have. After Pedro, who would be next? At that point, Big Schill's name came up. He was a contemporary of all three. And I am a biased Red Sox fan, but I would have to go with Big Schill. Remember that he was past his prime when we got him and he was still lights out in the post season. In his prime, I remember feeling more confident with him facing the Yankees than Johnson in 2001. Johnson had the better Series, but they were both fantastic -- Co-MVPs. This question is not a no-brainer like it is with Pedro, but the fact that I think he would be in this debate highlights for me that Schilling deserves to be enshrined with these guys. There is no doubt about that.
