SBF to Amaro----You want Swihart? Get lost!!!!!!!

Fred, I think I would do it if that is all he wants. I have little faith in our prospects after what I witnessed in the last couple of years. I respect your player evaluations, which is the only reason that I am not gungho for this trade. Have you seen him play?

I think Lester conducted himself like a stand-up guy all the way. He didn't say one negative thing about anybody.

He did. And based on the contracts other pitchers had recently received, $70mil/4yrs was not in the ballpark where negotiations could have been taken seriously by Lester's camp. JMO

That said, the FO did a very good job of rebuilding the rotation sans Lester. They should be given credit for that.

Kimmi, they have built a rotation of guys who are either not that good or underachieving AND injury prone. The only guy in that rotation who is a playoff caliber starter is Porcello, and he's more a game 3 starter than anything else. I think Miley is gonna get s*** tanked in Boston. Buchholz and Masterson are coming off the two worst seasons in the AL last yr AND both were injured. Then there's Kelly, who is a reliever in starter's clothing and he is also hurt a lot. You rebuilt the rotation into a big pile of s***. The sox need two more starters IMO, and they need a 1 and a 2

I know you are a yankee fan and all jacko but unfortunately this is how I feel. When the offseason started I said that we needed not one but 2 solid arms. As u said, we are relying a lot on a bunch of underachieving AND injury prone arms. Aside Kelly, neither of them will be part of our core pitching staff going forward.

Two takeaways: I need my umbrella since the sky is falling per Jacko and his usual nonsense, and iortiz thinks like a Yankees fan, which explains a lot of stuff. A LOT.

A lot of Red Sox fans think the same about the current rotation. Thing is that we take away our Red Sox glasses while others don't.

I can picture you wearing the outfit, sitting at the computer in your parents' basement.

We don't have basements in our houses here. First off, houses here are made of cinder blocks because the year-long humidity f***s wood up, and because of the whole constant hurricane warning thing. Also, it's too f***ing hot.

I suggest you go upstairs and tell your mom those are reasons why she should let you move to your dad's entertainment room up in the main house instead of living next to the laundry machine.

Seems like another s*** storm is about to begin and guess who is in the middle of it... agin? yes U? no big surprise here. His track record is out of this world.

If I still lived with my parents, I wouldn't be living with my parents, I'd be in the psych ward. :)

In all fairness, you SHOULD be in a psych ward.

UN, you can hang out in my basement. It's bigger than most houses. Still doesn't change the fact that your current rotation is a joke. I know you've been tooting the horn of "the season hasn't started yet", but we are getting close to pitchers and catchers. There's one more big fish out there, so maybe that's the guy who walks through the door, but as of right now, your rotation is a joke.

I've got my umbrella handy, and i don't like basements. Again, it's too f***ing hot here, and i never, ever wanna deal with snow again. Michigan ruined it for me.

Ted---On the Red Sox website they showed Blake soon after they signed him taking batting practice at his New Mexico High School. It showed him batting from both sides of the plate. Now all I saw was what I witnessed on my computer but I swear the guy had a terrific stroke----from both sides. Good hand action and he stayed inside the ball and kept his head in. I was deeply impressed. Even if Vasquez becomes our regular catcher we must keep Swihart because he was once a third baseman, can play first or the outfield and I think the guy will be a good hitter. Also, as much as so many people are saying we can get by with a weak hitter at catcher, we cannot if two or three other players who we depend on have off years or start to decline, and I cannot ever remember a Red Sox team since 2003 that had a lineup of solid hitters throughout the lineup. In '04, Mueller, Bellhorn and Nixon (injured too) were very inconsistent, in '07 Crisp, Lugo and Drew had off years, and iin 2013 we didn't exactly get all that much from Middlebrooks, Drew, or even Salty in a matter of consistency. With our pitching I'm looking to get every hitter we can in the lineup this year, next year and in the rest of the teens until we f inally come up with a pitching staff that can pitch and dominate games.

No Kimmi, the FO did not do a very good job of rebuilding the rotation at all. Read what Jacko wrote. He was pretty precise. Masterson and Buchholz are not pitchers you can count on, and Miley may wind up becoming a piñata in the American League. I still insist we really need one more very good pitcher......I would even like two if possible and time is running out.

Yankees making a strong play at Shields. Greaaaat.

Yeah I just read it at MLBR. Seems like he has a lot of offers, hopefully he ends up somewhere else.

I'll talk with you without pissing Ogden. I agree, no baseball player is truly worth $20 mil a season on a societal level, but the market dictates everything here. Lester's market was obviously well north of that figure. Everyone knew the market would dictate a MUCH higher value than 4yrs $70 mil. Starting that low was a complete and total insult to Lester. Let's put it this way. You're interviewing for a job and the market dictates your salary should be $80K and they offer you $50K. That would be a problem

You are right that the market is the determining factor. It's free enterprise so it's no different than any other industry. I just hate the guys on both sides of pro sports markets even if that makes me irrational and inconsistent with the fact I support the free market system.

Time will tell. On paper, it is not a very good rotation. Credit or blame should be reserved until we see how they perform.

First about that sign about you being crazy.....you're not except for loving the Red Sox, but then if that's the benchmark then we're all nuts. As for pissing contest, I think things are going to quiet down for awhile. Look, none of us want to be suspended for a month, banned for two, and turn this board into a brawling cauldron. Stay on here Ogden.....you will find that the positives far outweigh the negatives. As for your take on Lester, even if you are right, the market dictates the prices and as long as teams are throwing out that kind of money the prices will only go higher until sanity prevails.

People get suspended here? I never noticed that there was a mod, but then again I'm not very observant. As for being crazy, I just hate what money does to the game. Guys making 15M/year profess love for their team and city, then jump at the first chance they get to make more. The egos these guys have is amazing.

While I do not like this rotation at all, you are right here, time will tell. Hopefully I'm death wrong in my assessment and they perform as some are projecting. .

If the market is skeptical about his ability to pitch outside of great environments - going to the league's worst ballpark for righty flyball pitchers could be an issue.

He might pitch below hois career norms at Yankee Stadium, but I am pretty sure that he would be an improvement over ther #4 and #5 guys thus improving their rotation. If the Yankees overpay for him, that is no comfort to me if he makes the Yankees better.
