LOL, $100mil for Kyle Seager, GTFO. Is this what it's come to now? This blatant overpaying is turning me away from baseball, and making me less inclined to spend money on it.

I certainly agree with you. I've been saying this for a while.

$100M for 7 years of Seager > $100M for 5 years of Sandoval

Seager's numbers have been trending up, Sandoval's numbers have been trending down... I'd much rather have Seager than Sandoval going forward.

Seager has done nothing to justify $100mil. This is if anything a premature move by Seattle.

I agree 100 mill is bit high but this guy has shown a quick learning curve and a lot of maturity in a short time. Compare him to other third basemen in MLB and it's pretty easy to see he has quickly become one of the best at his position. With 3B not as strong a position in MLB as it has been historically, locking up one of the best at the position is a no-brainer.

Blue Jays To Acquire Josh Donaldson From Athletics For Brett Lawrie, Others

By Jeff Todd [November 28, 2014 at 8:48pm CST]

The Blue Jays have officially struck a deal to acquire third baseman Josh Donaldson from the Athletics. Heading back to Oakland are infielder Brett Lawrie, righty Kendall Graveman, shortstop Franklin Barreto, and righty Sean Nolin .

Big trade.

Word around Twitter is that Donaldson complained about the A's cheap ways and was immediately traded. There's a tweet going around by our good friend Josh Reddick that reads:

"Not surprised, Donaldson spoke the truth about ownership and then traded."

Ballplayers on Twitter, how could that be a bad idea?

As I see it the Donaldson trade did little if anything to make the Jays a strong contender. They just exchanged parts with another team. Although his power is bound to play well in that dome.

The seems like a huge haul for Donaldson.

No it doesn't.

Garbage. Blue Jays rapped Oakland on this one.

Lawrie can't stay on the field ( not as good as Donaldson even if he could )

none of those prospect are really big

^^^ yup. Donaldson is a superstar 3B, the best in baseball. He's been the top 3 most valuable guy in the past 2 season. He is under team control for drops of buckets pay the next 4 year. Beane got hosed for taking back that s*** of a package of a broken airhead Lawrie and 'prospects' that is far more likely to flamed out than succeed.

I don't know much about the prospects in this trade. It just seems to me as this being a "nothing" trade.

Lawrie is inconstant but talented and sometime unable to play.

I don't see Donaldson as a superstar. His recent performance is pretty good, though.

This trade did nothing to put the Jays over the edge or make them that much closer to taking the division or landing a wild card.

So I'm happy about that.

I see the Jays as perpetual also rans.

They do play exciting ball with all of their pop. Donaldson does make their left side defense stronger.

The Pirates announced that they have acquired infielder Sean Rodriguez from the Rays in exchange for a player to be named later and cash considerations. First baseman Gaby Sanchez has been designated for assignment to clear roster space

And the Rays send off another piece. I wonder if they would trade Longo and go total rebuild? I mean if any team doesn't have to worry about the fans attending the game it's the Rays(or Marlins). Their FO unlike many really can do as they please and not worry about pissing off the fan base.

The Mariners have agreed to a multi-year deal with Nelson Cruz, reports Dominican journalist Yancen Pujols (Spanish link). According to Pujols, it’s a four-year, $57MM contract. ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick hears that the deal is still pending a physical (Twitter link). Cruz is represented by agent Diego Bentz of Relativity Sports.

That's an awful contract. With the money being thrown around on DH's Papi could probably get a 4/72M if he was a FA lol

57 million for a guy who hit 40 HR last year? I know he's getting up there in years, but that's not terrible. They won't be penalized if he gets caught for PEDs, all that money goes right back to them.

Nelson Cruz to the Mariners means no Iwakuma for Cespedes as some had hoped.

idk maybe. I'm reading Cruz is gonna be DH. I doubt Seattle was looking at Cespedes for a DH. They are probably still interested but not a desperate after signing Cruz.

I'm glad Cruz is off to Seattle. Let him rot there for 4 years.

I wonder what the O's are going to do? Markakis is not a sure thing to resign.

Reportedly working on a trade with Dodgers for Kemp.

Yes, I read that too.

I'm curious because I've always liked Markakis and I want to know what division rivals are up to. The Sox are not the only team that needs to make moves.

It wouldn't hurt the Red Sox to inquire about Longoria. Chances are the Rays would not trade him inside the AL East but anytime you're competing with the Yankees it doesn't hurt to ask.

Tell you what, the guy on that roster that I want right now is not Longoria, although he's good. It's Ben Zobrist. He's exactly the sort of person you have as many of as possible. I mean how do you even define this guy positionally? I suppose technically he needs to be thought of as a second baseman but Zobrist has played every position but pitch and catch and combines that with switch hitting at a consistently acceptable level and even throws in above average speed. Whatever you need done on the field, Ben Zobrist is pretty good at it. He's the ultimate jack of all trades and one of the most underrated players in the big leagues right now. Edited by Dojji

Seattle is still reportedly still looking for a RF. I don't see the match with the Sox without a 3rd team tho. Seattle really doesn't have ML SP to burn and i doubt the move Walker or Paxton for a 1 year rental.

Iwakuma is fair value. They might have to replace him with a free agent veteran, but it sounds like they have money to burn, and the outfielder market is a lot thinner right now.
