Counting on Price, Cueto and Zimmerman to all hit FA is pretty risky too.

Maybe the Sox see Miley, Porcello and Kelly as their primary starters going forward. I was thinking that the Sox would stand pat until the apparent glut of SP hits free agency after 2015.

 

Not sure what will happen now. I do suspect that the Sox will emphasize reliance on younger, demonstrated MLB arms going forward. I doubt that they go nuts and trade a bunch of prospects for Cole Hamels or sign Shields to 5/100+ now.

 

Maybe if the Sox are in contention for a playoff birth in 2015 they could take a rental on a high end arm for the postseason. But I doubt that as well. I suspect that the Sox will continue to target arms like Miley and Porcello instead.

I read that as well. I'd say Heyman got sobered up and realized not much news that he will drum up some. Just one report could stir the market and make teams get in faster than they want.

 

I'd like to see Scherzer to the Sox. 6yrs/150 with a vesting option for a 7th at 175 total would get it done probably.

 

Sign Zimmerman next offseason. Rotation done for the next 5 plus years.

I think Scherzer is going to hold out as long as possible and don't see him settling for 150.

Initially I said 200 M, I still think this could have gotten it done. You said that he could get another 20 just traveling to NY. I do not think so.

 

At this point, I don't see him getting more than 180 M.

Guys, Heyman is a Boras schill. Remember that. He always is the one to "break the news" of any signing, but he also allows Boras to use him as a whore all offseason until agreements are made. There is a reason why he's pounding the drum in the direction of NY and Boston. He wants them to enter the bidding and go after each other. Boras is in an interesting spot with Scherzer. All the big money teams have publicly said they're out and Detroit hasn't had any contact with him. Either someone is gonna go after him in desperation, or Boras will have to tuck tail and go back to Detroit to get the offer the started the year off with

Me either. I think Hamels will play better in SD.

 

The only Ace scenario I like currently is the one where Scherzer goes to Detroit and they trade Price. I'd be more comfortable giving up pieces for Price and hope the Sox took a real stab at extending him(which I know will be difficult). But 6/150M would make him think.

I don't like those odds under those circumstances. Prune Face screwed up badly with Lester; he must rectify that all time blunder and the best way to do this is to sign Scherzer. Open your damn vault pruney and help us get to the WS. You owe the fans that for the s***** job you and your minions did to our team this past season.

Yeah, to me he's the biggest unknown on the squad. If he stinks, Vic better be ready to play.

Castillo is a wild card. We really know nothing about him. Even the Red Sox are just taking an educated guess on how he will perform. If Victorino bounces back, Castillo's performance will not be so critical.
