I was wondering if this thread was going to pop-up, or if we were just going to use the roster projections thread all offseason.

So many things that can be done to make this team better. My favorite targets so far -- Ruiz, Napoli, Hart, Mujica, Granderson.

Grandy will be this year's Victorino -- a guy who gets a midrange contract who very well might deserve a top contract. The draft pick hurts, but maybe they go the route of snagging the 3 QO draft picks, and then signing a few midrange QO players ie Kendry Morales/Kuroda.

He has only had contact injuries, and will likely not have too many lasting effects on his production. He plays a key defensive position -- but poorly enough that will hurt his market for teams with bigger parks. He has also publicly stated he wants to play for a winner. He has solid speed, and 30+ HR power at Fenway -- good enough that he could spell the team at DH in later years. The reports I have heard are estimating around 3/45.

At 3/46, Granderson would be an excellent value. He is a top talent due for a big bounce back year. I like the analogy to Victorino, but I think Granderson will get a lot more interest than Victorino. There were worries that a small guy like Victorino was starting to break down physically. Grand, as you point out, has had contact injuries, not wear and tear injuries.

I also like Kendrys Morales, but we might be too left-handed to add him.

@keithlaw: BWAHAHAHAHA #AnalyticsPlant RT @magelb: Source: Phillies have re-signed Carlos Ruiz to a three-year, $26 million contract.

Wow. What were they thinking?

To clarify, it's not so much the money, but rather the third year. The Phillies are also less flexible financially than most teams right now. It doesn't make any sense.

Maybe they know better about his health than other teams. Remember, the guy did have a 325/.394/.540/.935 line only a year ago. One year of that at catcher is practically worth 26 million.

This means Ruiz will get huge money though.

Salty is smiling wherever he is. It's now him and McCann, and between them, I'd rather have Salty. McCann's probably cornered himself with the asking price.

Well I'm glad that's over with. Frankly, I didn't want a 35 year old catcher alternating with another mid 30's catcher and both RH hitters doing the receiving for us next season, but I suppose we have to now keep our eyes on another grey beard who might make our front office tempted to sign him--Pierzynski. If it comes down to that, one year and a mutual option and no more. Do you think that now we might tender Salty a two year contract with an option third season?

They have to come in starting with a 3 year offer for salty now. I don't mind 3 year for him, anything beyond is absurd. 3/33M or something.

He'd fit right in with Ortiz too. All kidding aside, it's good to see the Yankees pursuing SS options. 2014 is Jeters farewell year and he'll likely be our SS/DH with more emphasis on the latter than the former. We need someone who can handle the position on a day to day basis. I am glad they resigned Ryan, but getting a guy like Jhonny won't hurt

With Derek Jeter along with one of the best defensive shortstops in the game in Brendan Ryan, they may not be playing Peralta at SS most of the time. He played the majority of 2009/2010 at 3B, and could probably learn 2B if Cano leaves.

If I didn't know better Pal I really think there is a good chance Cano leaves the Yankees. Is that right? I can't for the life of me see that. To me the chances of the Braves moving back to Boston or the Dodgers back to Brooklyn seem more possible than that. The Yankees would be denuded of much of their hitting if Robby left. I just don't see it.
