Not sure what you're talking about, although I find it interesting how you've gone on the offensive since you were called a Yankee fan. Trying to save face?

I've criticized your argument (which you've been making verbatim), many times before. You aren't saying anything new.

I don't care if people think I am a Yankee fan. If they get off on rooting for this large corporation over that large corporation, good for them. If one in particular riles their jimmies, that's OK, too. I'm not interested in that part of the sport.

Boras is now putting out the word that Drew will consider sliding over to second base for a multiple year contract. This could be an attempt to get the Yankees interested.

So he is basically volunteering to play 2B for one season only. If he signs with them, who plays SS in 2015? Drew or Ryan?

Drew. The Yankees will put a black hole at SS if they really have to but they want a hitter really. objectively Ryan's a starting caliber SS based on defense alone as long as he's not giving you negative wins with the bat, but the Yankees are a media driven team, and they and their fans both love offense too much to be entirely happy with a defense-heavy roster.

I think the only reason they don't want to go after Drew right now is because Jeter. it compromises his farewell tour to have another professional SS in the wings

But Brian Roberts is supposed to be the starting 2B lol Drew to the Yanks makes sense. Or he can hold out into ST to see if Jeter has a hiccup and then have more leverage.

Boras's main target at the moment seems to be the Jays, for Drew and Morales. In an interview he pretty much told the Jays how to run their club - even pointing out that if they signed Morales, Adam Lind could be trading for pitching. The guy is too much.

Drew is a pretty good fit for them considering their terrible infield. Plus he hits left handed--and most left handed hitters improve in Yankee stadium. Can he play 2B? It's not automatic. He has to be able to make the DP pivot. He's a big lanky guy more suited for SS. Jeter for 2B.

I'm not sure the Yankees like Drew for what he will cost, and the years, which may be why they haven't taken the bait so far.

Well, years and dollars are variable. Drew will eventually decide whether he wants to play baseball this season based on the given market. The Mets still makes the most sense by far. In the Bronx he'd have to play 3B for a year - where his bat doesn't really play. For the Mets, it has been a matter of the right price. They have a job opening, Drew will not cost them much pick-wise and he is an extremely valuable trade asset. If MLB did sign and trades the way that the NBA does - Drew would have had a much larger market.

Alright, lets drop the Drew talk. We aren't gonna sign him. What do you guys think about Gomes leading off? Last year he had a .344 OBP, that is not bad at all. I just don't see Gomes as a lead off hitter though. My choice is Nava. The guy gets on base, and that is exactly what you want in a lead off spot

Nava would be better in my opinion because he would hit for a higher average and if he doesn't get a walk his chances of getting on base via a hit are better than Gomes. Jonny is a better run producer with more power and is better suited IMHO for somewhere around sixth in the lineup. The problem with Nava is that he will be in a platoon situation and when he is sitting when a lefty throws we need another lead off man for that day. Too many people say they don't want Bradley thrown to the wolves in his first full season with the team and that pressure could hurt him so I won't argue that point.....at the moment. Of course, say Sizemore does beat out Jackie, couldn't he hit leadoff? He did it for a number of years for Cleveland.

I think it will be Victorino. You can't clog the bases with the leadoff spot.

True. Nava isn't slow though. Gomes would clog up the bases IMO

Screw that - clogging the bases is just fine if he's clogging them up more than 35% of the time.

I suspect the lead off role will be different guys from game to game all year. I do not expect to see someone manning it like a permanent position.

It looks like the Sox might give the Nava/Gomes Splitsville platoon a shot at leadoff. They have each been put in the leadoff spot in spring games.

Nava has a career .390 OBP against RHP. Gomes has a career .377 OBP against LHP. How much does the lack of speed offset the high OBP?

you do when most of the guys behind your leadoff hitter aren't fast either.

Unless you want to lead off with Pedroia, which I'd honestly consider, Nava's your man, at least against RHP. Against LHP as an RHH Victorino is an excellent choice (.386 OBP against LHP last year), so I could see the two tagteaming the leadoff spot until something better comes along.

Victorino has an even higher OBP v left and is not slow. If nava leads off against right, Victorino leads off against left.

Essentially zero ... the speed can help it, but station to station works too. Sox have put together outstanding run scoring outfits using both flavors. Just get on base and figure the rest out later. Also, the leadoff spot is a wee bit overrated - you only lead off once. But it does get more at bats over the season than other lineup spots, so having guys you want up the most does matter some.
