I think they wouldn't straight platoon him, but they could make compromises to find WMB playing time.

I think that we can agree that it's not a likely scenario.

I think it's more likely than you think, given Drew's lack of choices regarding his destination. But we'll see.

I'm all for signing Drew to a 1 yr contract with an option for a 2nd year(1 year contract doesnt make sense when a draft pick is involved). I would think that WMB trade would be in the works though, and just for comparison sakes I would think that WMB has more value than Trumbo and look what Angels recieved for him.

I've tried like hell the last week or so to get along with the guy but seems intent on pulling my chain and if he does it will be bombs for bombs until he stops. BTW with this new set-up how to I put him on ignore anyway? Let me know.

Someone yesterday mentioned the Sox trading for Trumbo ... now it is your opinion that WMB has more value than Trumbo. Why in the world would the Sox sign Drew and trade WMB ... we would be selling low ... very low. Give WMB another opportunity.

My point is that if the sox resign Drew, were would WMB get his ab's. We already know that Farell will not platoon Drew and XB will play everyday. How is WMB supposed to get his value up if he is only playing a couple of games a week? And I thought the trade for Trumbo yesterday was a major get for the angels, what I meant was that if Trumbo could get 2 young lefty pitchers, what would WMB fetch?

Do you not think we have enough SP's between our major league roster and our AAA roster? Owens might turn out to be as good or better as our number 3. We have 3 players on the roster with legit 30 HR power ... Ortiz, Napoli and Middlebrooks. WMB needs his at bats. I seriously doubt that the Sox are bringing Drew back. If the Mets need a starting SS Drew would be a good value for them even if it means giving up their 2nd round pick.

I believe Hassan is really a 1b. And he does have some real upside. Not a ton of power, but very good OBP skills.

Hassan is also a native of Milton, Massachusetts which is the next town over from me. It would be cool to see a hometown kid playing for the hometown team.

By the way, I come here to talk baseball and not read about stupid fights. Can we all act mature here and stop the unnecessary fighting? We all root for the same team here. It is one thing to argue about baseball related topics such as whether or not the Sox should sign Drew, but do not attack anyone on their personal lives. I know and hope we can all be better than that.

3 of our starting pitchers our free agents next year. None of our pitchers in the minors project to be front of the rotation guys. In reference to the "Trumbo trade" it wasn't the 2 LHP the angels received, it was the value they recieved. If Ben could get a young front of the rotation starter with WMB, I'm all for it. For the Sox to sign Drew it has to make sense, having WMB sitting on the bench does not make sense.

Well, at least of the guys who can contribute in 2014. Owens I think has a front of the rotation ceiling but also further away than the others. You are right that looking into more permanent rotation answers is not a bad idea. I do want to see what the price on Sale is - the Sox have the prospect inventory to do something there, but the questions about Sale's long term durability would give me pause on spending too much. But clearly you kick the tires.

Hate beat a dead horse, but Hart signs a 1 year contract similar to Napoli's contract last year, 5 million with ability to collect 13 million with incentives. Just a reminder, next years draft is very deep.

Believe he went to BCHigh before Duke.

Don't forget that Hart played 0 games in 2013.

Thank you young sir.....And that last sentence of yours speaks volumes about the wisdom you have at your youthful age. Wish I had that when I was around 20, or sometimes even now when I go off the handle when I'm attacked. So true, though....we are all Red Sox fans and love our team.

Around every month or so, you feel the need to post about rooting against the Red Sox and not being a fan in the past. It gets old and a lot of us don't want to hear it.

Well you could skip reading it, but I will concede that it could get nerve wracking. I will try to cool that part of my written rhetoric. Besides you did say please and I want to cooperate on that score. Besides, the very thought that there could be any o ther team I loved like the Red Sox would be too hateful to contemplate.

That's why you DON'T sign Drew. His best years are past; WMB's are in the future and most likely the immediate future. Drew is a standout defensive player but he cannot hit left handed pitching and his strikeout totals have gone through the roof the past two seasons. Middlebrooks has 30 home run power and those players don't grow on trees. Besides, Will has grown up in the Red So organization and has shown some real flashes of talent. We ought to see this through. Drew is a mercenary, his refusal to take the QO is proof positive of that. Of course, that was his right and privilege to do so, but now that the well has dried up for his talents he may want back in. To me we need WMB and Bogey on the left side of our infield for the next ten years. Don't feel sorry for Drew. Sooner or later Boras will sweet talk some team into dumping a wad of money on him, maybe Boras' favorite team, the Yankees.

I met Mike Greenwell when I was 13 in 86 spring training, so that should give you an idea of my age. The whole point about Napoli is do you think his production and monetary demands are more valuable to the sox than Hart potential production and what boils down to late first round pick. I can see the arguement from both sides.

Napoli rejected a QO, is he mercenary?

I'm a huge WMB fan, but I'm even more a Red Sox fan. So if the Sox deal WMB and it betters the team, I'm all for it.

I do not think that Hart wanted to play in Boston. He lives our west ... Arizona ... wife and 4 kids. I think that right about now we should be happy to have Napoli back at a fair market rate and a short 2 year contract. Did you see that HR Nap's crushed off of Verlander in the AL Championship Series ... I do think Carp will get some time at 1B this year against RHP.

Drew did the right thing I believe turning down the QO. Coming off a Championship and playing very solid defense and showing some offense in games 5 & 6 his stock is about as high as he could hope it to be all things considered. It is hard to get overly excited with WMB because we were all excited about him heading into the 2013 season. But ... there is a lot to like about Middlebrooks and should he ever put everything together he can be a consistent 30 HR, 100RBI sort of player. I would actually take WMB ahead of Napoli if it came down to the one or the other. Could WMB play 1B ... of course he can.

Sound logic here. Kudos.

You could quit posting about your pre-Red Sox days as well. It makes me ill and I can't relate to it. You already promised before that you understood how we life long Sox fans feel and would stop bringing it up. That would be most appreciated.

Well they say life begins at 40 so I think your ok on that score. I am not a big fan of Hart. I don't have the facts handy but he always seemed to fade late in the season and when games were crucial. Besides, he hasn't played in a full year. OTOH, you know by now that I am a very big fan of Mike Napoli, save for those strikeouts, and he just seems to be made for Boston. Besides we're getting a couple of first round picks as it is, maybe an extra one too if Drew signs elsewhere.

I was just reading the Mike Napoli Performance Thread. For someone who we needed back in 2014 at all costs we were not too happy with him throughout the season.
