Salty sucks as a catcher. I hope the Sox go after McCann in the offseason. On the bright side, the Sox would have had to have lost 2 games to win this thing at Fenway...

When it comes to interference, intent does not matter. Just like in a rundown if a player gets too close accidentally and bumps into the runner, it's interference. The question is, can you be interfering if the runner is trying to run and isn't in the baseline when the supposed interference takes place

Contact occurred a good three feet inside the baseline. The runner Craig gets up and he is the one who makes contact with Middlebrooks. If he gets up and runs down the chalk line no contact is ever made. As a 3B this rule goes against everything you are taught. A ball is thrown to you and you don't make the catch, but feel the ball may be close by because it hit the runner. Your instinct is to get up and get the ball. Middlebrooks goes to do that and its obstruction. It kind of reminds me of the Fielder play in the ALCS. In that play it looked like Fielder was trying to make contact with a fielder to get an obstruction call. You could make a case that Craig with his bad foot got up and created the contact that would give him the obstruction call. I don't know how quick guys can think, but if you know the rule and intent doesn't matter then if you are on top of a guy you know is going to get up that there is a good chance obstruction will be called. The bottom line is the ball should never have been thrown to third. Just lost game 2 on a similar play. If Salty hangs on to ball (Need Ross to start tonight) you have Kozma coming up with two outs. Even though the Sox made a bad play MLB should be embarrassed that a World Series game ending because a bad rule. If intent doesn't matter all runner has to do is run into the fielder.

How the heck does Salty throw the ball away yet again. You had 2 out let's no get greedy. There's some other odd decisions in this game, but throwing away the game is shameful.

I just listened to salty's interview. He's saying the reason he threw at third is because the runner was only halfway. Wtf, he was over 3/4 of way. f***ing idiot. Own up to yourr mistake ffs.

I also must say that's a pretty lame attempt from wmb to catch that ball considering the situation

Have you seen the video? What could he have done with a throw as wide as that one? Even worse, Craig made contact with WMB with both his hands and feet, but the umpires apparently failed to notice that.

I don't even give a s*** anymore, could barely sleep. Too much to fight to win this series, blue in the bag for the cardinals, Salty with his head up his ass, Farrell with his head up his ass, Sox hitters with their heads up their asses.

It was a great season and they went deep into the post season. I can't handle watching another game where we are knotted 1-1 in the eighth maybe and Farrell brings in Morales let's say and he promptly gives it up. Maybe we get lucky and tie it up and Salty sails a ball into the stands etc. it was a good year, Sox are shot right now and it's just too brutally stupid to watch.

Sox will be hungry after last night's shenanigans. I also have my mojorriffic secret weapon. Have faith Brennan, do not give up like a f***ing pussy!

Terrible throw. Salty is just digging a deeper hole for himself. IMO, WMB had no shot to catch that mess of a throw.

As for the call, IMO it should have been a no call. I have not seen it again since last night but to me there is at least as much video evidence that Craig choose to run over WMB. Yes the runner can choose his base path. That does not mean he can chase the fielder around 3rd base until he finally catches him. The fielder has a right to his position on the field as long as he is not directly in the base path between 3rd and home or putting himself in the path of the runner, causing interference. There is at least as much video evidence that Craig chose to go over Will so that he could use him to regain balance and as a springboard toward home plate as there is that Will interfered with him. In fact I think there is slightly more video evidence against Craig than against Will.

But of course the umps can't make a no call. That would mean their relevant significance when compared to players, coaches and the very game itself is rather trivial, as it should be. Umps just cannot tolerate that. So instead we get Torre and See No Evil, Hear no Evil and Speak no Evil sitting up there trying to explain the unexplainable. One of the most embarrassing moments for MLB in a long time. "Well ah, the rule says"....which rule....did you guys actually figure out which rule took precedence? They took nothing into consideration that would have resulted in a correct No call because they are insistent on inserting themselves into the proceedings. You cannot tell me in a month of Sundays that they took the totality of that play into consideration. It happened too quickly in real time with too many of the moving parts happening within split seconds of each other and no help from replay. They made a knee jerk, split second decision favoring interference on the part of the fielder and that was the end of that. They made a call that ended the game instead of making a no call which would have been the correct call in this case. I am dead dog tired of these f***s and the stupid s*** they insert into the game.

Brennan didn't give up last night. Just blowing off steam.

Lock this thread and start game 4!

Let's f***ing go!

I doubt you'll see Salty again this series. Somebody has to take the blame. Actually, Ross should have caught tonite, after game 2. They won't make that mistake again. Salty just isn't good enough defensively. His extension is in jeopardy.

The Red Sox braintrust continually has to be reminded that defense starts up the middle. That's basic.

This series so far sucks. It's a comedy of errors.

behind, if the runner's intent is to trip over the 3rd baseman, every red sox fan here could cry without shame. the umps would have waved off the obstruction call if they thought the runner intentionally tripped over the 3rd baseman. Edited by nor'easter

Yeah, cause as the pictures show, the ump was studying the whole thing very carefully, I'm sure the fat piece of s*** cared a lot.

As peeved as I still am about the call, we should all be much more upset at Salty. Craig was sliding into third before Salty even threw it. Little leaguers know to eat it at that point. Beyond that, he's a free out at the plate.

UN has a plan. Anyway, now I have to suffer watching the Pats do a lifelike imitation of the giants. Blah.

Well, that game sure turned around quickly.

Here's to the reverse lock

Brennan, I have noticed over the years that when a team comes back from a deficit and only tie the game, they are headed for a loss. The key is to come back and take the lead. We did this twice last night, that is, tie the game and not go ahead. It's piss down the porcelain, nothing we can do about it now. Funny how I took it.....I first shrugged it off but on reflection I got madder and madder until I was thoroughly pissed off. I'm also a little peeved now because I'm convinced we have to get Drew out of that damn lineup. He is a strikeout machine and nothing more, and while we're at it get Salty out of there too. Nava did ok last night and I think Ross and Middlebrook need a chance to show what they can do. They certainly can do no worse than what Drew, Salty and Gomes have done. Besides today is my 73rd birthday and I need a nice present like a victory tonight.
