Again. Homahs and walk offs. That's what Boston does. Homahs. And. Walk offs.

Peavy vs Fister.

Nobody change anything. And enjoy wearing your pants, because this is the last night you're going to be wearing them. Gentlemen (and VA), after tonight, we're goin streaking.

It's simple. Win tonight. That's all. Just win.

Got a feeling this is going to be one of those seesaw games where both teams take turns scoring batches of runs.

I think today is the game where the Red Sox bats come alive big time, and Peavy takes the baton from Lackey and just continues what he was doing.

Sox win this one, and it's not a save situation.

I kind of have this feeling too, these two great offenses have been very quite this series.

It seems to me that the Red Sox pitching staff hasn't been taking anything for granted. Peavy hasn't been to the playoffs in 7 years, and he seems about as locked in as possible. During a pre-game interview, he basically said he was prepared in every conceivable way. He also seems like the kind of guy who thrives on high-rest because of his talent level and fragile tendencies. Fister is a low strikeout, mid-tier right hander. If the Sox can't do damage, they'll knock him out of the game by the 5th anyway and feast on the pen.

If it's a slugfest, I hope it's the Sox that win it. I know Miggy is injured but we have to worry about Fielder, Peralta, V-Mart etc. injured or not, I'm scared of Miggy. Napoli hit the game winning HR yesterday, but he hasn't really done anything else.

The Red Sox pitching edge in this series has been basically that they can turn around 9 well pitched innings more consistently than the Tigers can. The starters are not as dynamic as the Tigers so far, but if you can go starter-breslow/tazawa-uehara ... that is about as effective a 9 innings as you can ask for.

Okay:

On this date in:

2003: Aaron Boone hits the walk off HR in game 7 of ALCS

2004: Yankees beat Sox 19-8 in Game 3 of ALCS

2007: Guardians take 3-1 series lead vs Sox in ALCS

2008: Sox take 3-1 lead over Tampa in ALCS, last playoff win until October 4, 2013

I think you need to reread the 2008 one. It was TAMPA who took the 3-1 lead. Red Sox next night, 7 down, 7 outs from elimination got up off the mat, staged a miracle quite possibly as amazing as what they did Sunday, forced the Game 7 and then lost.

Yes you're right. My mistake.

Red Sox never had a 3-1 lead over Tampa

and besides, 2004 and 2007 we won the WS so those weren't really bad days if you think of the overall picture

I will say the 2003 and 2004 occasions were the lowest I've ever felt as a fan of this team (OK, correction it was the Butch Hobson years because we were a legitimately bad team and franchise but you get the idea) ... 2003 because it was so close. 2004 because it was so humuliating. Yeah it made the victory 100 times sweeter, so it was good in the big picture, but that little picture sucked.

I thought I was not old, but I see so many here who seem like they don't remember 2004 that fully let alone years before it. 2012 sucked in every way, and 2011 was heartbreaking. But, and I can say this with a little bit of "been there, done that" ... as Bob Ryan put it, these are the "good old days" we'll be talking about a decade from now. This has been unquestionably the best decade or so in post-Bambino Red Sox history.

When the Red Sox embarked for Detroit after their dramatic win on Sunday evening I had it pegged that Detroit would win with Verlander, Peavy would win for the Sox and there would be a real set-to in the finale in the Motor City. Thank God I was wrong on the first game, so please let me be very right about tonight.

I like our chances with Peavy and the fact that our bats are overdue to break out. Yeah Detroit has some good arms but I think it just fell in line with a little offensive holiday as well, that and playing tight. Ball is in our court now and this team can really shine when they need to.

I think there is a good chance that the garbage that we unloaded on the Dodgers is gonna be watching the WS from their living rooms after tonight too.

I hate the fact that all the pregame talk of this game instead of the pitching match up is Jim Leyland's new fangled line-up. All the old f*** done was move Austin Jackson to the bottom hitting 8th and everyone else jusst moves up a spot.

Eww Jim where the f*** do you come up with these out of the world line-ups. Ridiculous.

Win. And let Lester finish this off back in Boston in Game 5.

Game 5 is in Detroit. It's 2-3-2

All the better. Let the Detroit denizens wallow in more misery as they watch the only thing they have to live for slowly shuffle out of the dugout and into the clubhouse as our boys party on their lawn and spray each other with copious amounts of alcohol.

Peavy is donating 500$ to the jimmy fund for every strikeout by a Sox pitcher tonight (not just himself.)

What a stand up dude, I really hope he gets the win tonight
