There's no reading deficiency. You said Lester went "a little deeper than he usually does". He pitched 7.2 IP.

Lester pitched 7 IP or more in 17 of his 33 starts. Very few pitchers had more starts where they got into the 7th+ inning this season. That means your comment was either made without prior research (which is typical) which you are now annoyingly calling a reading deficiency on my part or you have unnaturally high expectations, which is why i made the question.

Winning tonight would be a real back-breaker for the Rays. Buchholz v. Cobb and Peavy v. Hellickson are very favorable matchups. Price however is a real issue the Red Sox need to solve. Hopefully the fans today will think of a good Price chant bearedSmiley.gif

Depending on how Det/Oak goes, the very best result might be a four game series win for the Sox. Extended periods off the field are the biggest enemy the Sox would have at this point.

I'm so in playoff mode.. Got the good luck Pats hoodie, daily good luck Sox playlist which goes back to 2004 (Evil by Interpol is great), and braves/sox bets all around the office. This is sweeeeet.

Yeah, it really hurt them in game 1.

The Sox were a bit off early in Game 1 and Farrell said as much.

If I had my druthers, the Sox would not have extra time off in the post season. There is enough built in time off as you go deeper into the post season to begin with....they don't need more four and five day or longer breaks. Eight plus days off buried the Rockies in the WS before it ever got started. They never had a chance and were swept out of that series before they knew what hit them.

The Sox being a vastly superior team to the Rockies in every aspect of the game might have had something to do with it. Also, Lester sure wasn't off with 7.2 IP of 2 ER, 7 K baseball.

The Red Sox burried the Rockies because they weren't that great.

The NL sucked that year.

Yeah, the Sox could have had a month off and they still would have destroyed the Rockies. The Rockies had no chance going into that series. I'm not actually convinced that they realized it was the World Series.

I read a NY Times story a month or so ago that said the TV networks make up the college football schedule according to their TV needs. I would guess they do the same with MLB, the NFL and the NBA. They are the principal source of revenues for these sports--an enormous amount of money that makes million dollar salaries possible. You can see TVs influence in the scheduling--the highlight night games, etc. Often with a NY or LA team--market size is their priority.

So, you can see that the Red Sox or any other team don't have much say in the schedule or how many days they have off. It's probably dictated by the teams-cities that make the playoffs, and has a lot to do with travel time and prime time hours divvied according to market size.

They got on a roll just at the right time. Same thing happened in 04--won 7 in a row.

Reminds me of a story--happened just before the start of the 04 WSeries against the Cardinals. They had just knocked off the Yankees by winning 3 in a row. I run into an ESPN guy at the airport--a guy I knew from high school. He was with that Philly News guy who just won the Spink Award. Forget his name. So I ask them who is going to win the series.

Both said Cardinals in 5. I said no way. Red Sox have better pitching. A lot of snooty attitudes about the Red Sox in the sports media. You can still see it now on CBS, ESPN, etc. The CBS guys are moaning about Myers losing game 1 for the Jays. Hell, they lost 12-2.

It reminds me of a guy we have out here in LA who is a columnist for the LA Times......one Bill Plaschke, maybe you heard of him much to your chagrin. This guy goes from the stratosphere to the infernal reaches game by game an does that with everybody who play for an LA team---The Lakers, Dodger, Kings, Clippers, SC, UCLA. His latest caper was yesterday morning and this morning. On Friday morning he was anointing the Dodgers as the greatest thing since sliced bread, that they have the Braves' number and it's not going to be much of a series. In today's paper he was shedding crocodile tears and moaning how the Dodgers blew their chance to take full control of this series and hurling blame on the manager. I still think the Dodgers will prevail in this series and that's what made his column so ridiculous. They got ten hits to the Braves' six and left a ton of runners on base. So I know exactly where you're coming from on that score.
