Just saw a headline that pointed out the two times the Yanks haven't made the playoffs in recent memory were under Girardi's watch. Well, firstly, a manager's influence is small to marginal, but if anything shouldn't they be giving Girardi credit for keeping them in the hunt until the last week, what with the injuries and poor performances and the parade of scrubs sent out there all season?

I don't like him, I don't really care if he goes or not, but to lay this all at his door is a bit much. On the other end of the scale, everyone was lauding Torre for the team's successes - I could have taken that 1998 team to the Series.

All anyone needed to do withthatteam was loo the other way as they were sticking PED needles in each others butts.

Girardi should go. I've given him s*** nearly his entire tenure in NY, but he was pretty masterful this yr. Keeping that heaping pile of s*** afloat was a miracle. I hope he re-ups, but I think NY is in a death spiral that should take 2-3 yrs to come out of. It would behoove him to go to a team that's already hit rock bottom rather than one on its way there

96 losses was the fourth worst record in baseball. I wonder how long of a leash Theo will get. Cherries proved one thing-- you don't need 3-5 years to turn around a franchise at the MLB level. Edited by a700hitter

Are you really comparing a team with as much talent and as good a farm system (but with chemistry problems) as the Red Sox to the flaming turd Epstein received in lieu of a team and farm system? Please GTFO.

Not sure what they are trying to do in that team, but I saw them playing sometimes this season and IMO they are the most horrible team in baseball. It's a shame that a fan base like that have a s***** team like this. Seems like they ain't going anywhere soon.

The Cubs aren't even the worst team in their city, and they're in the middle of an announced rebuilding period.....

A 10 year rebuilding project is not worth it.

Thunder, remember the posting instructions?

Think this through. If the team's farm system and roster both suck, what other choice do they have other than rebuild for as long as it takes? On another point, who says the process will take ten years?

The Cubs have a very bright future. They just needed to get out from under the terrible contracts doled out by the former regime and the single handed franchise destruction at the hands of Dusty "I'm gonna run my kid pitchers into the ground" Baker. Imagine where the Cubs would be had Dusty not run Wood and Prior into the ground and they reached their potential. Things would be very different

They are brutal to watch. There isn't a player on the team worth the price of admission. Castro the SS is a talented ballplayer who plays with his hea up his ass most of the time. The Astros had a worse record. They have a couple of young arms that are exciting to watch, but they are right there on the s*** scale with the Cubs. The Marlins lost more games than the Cubs, but they have some exciting young talent. Stanton alone is more talent than the entire Cubs organization. Jose Fernandez is better than anyone the Cubs have and the kid OFer Yellich looks to be a keeper too.

Thank God they locked up Starlin, dude has been killing the ball all year.......not.

If Girardi goes, the highlight of his tenure for me will be the intentional walk to load the bases to face a guy who then promptly hit a GS. Awesome.

The cubs snagged the #2 draft pick last year, the #1 international prospect this year, the #4 pick in next year's draft, and pulled in a very good haul for Matt Garza. They also picked up another top international player in Soler. I haven't see an up-to-date farm system ranking, but I get the feeling their farm system will be stacked in the years to come. That's just what it's seemed like. They are wasting the career of Castro. He's their future, but they aren't providing him with anything.

What do you want them to provide him with? That team had nothing at the ML level. All they can do is draft and wait. Stupid contracts is what got them in this position in the first place.

Epstein has been acquiring assets - just like Luhnow has in Houston. Both of their big league clubs suck out loud - but it's very much with a bigger picture in mind.

They've had some chances. They had Soto, they still have Rizzo, and their September call up Junior Lake wasn't too bad, but they could never get the pitching. They have Samardzija, but that's it. I guess you're right in the fact that it doesn't matter how long it takes. My point was that if they finally got the prospects and developed them, guys like Castro and Rizzo will be at their prime or past it. They might have one playoff year, but that's it.

He could rebuild his farm and put out a somewhat competitive team for the fans. He was running garbage out there like Darnell McDonald and Ryan Sweeney. They have the resources to do better thn garbage like that. They got rid of most of their big contacts before this season. Theo's problem is he is really not good at evaluating pitching talent. In 2012 and 2013 they have the second worst combined record in baseball. Only the Astros are worse. That's crossing over from rebuilding to total suck.

Cubs fans are too drunk and stupid to notice that they are in a rebuilding year so it isn't like there is any profit to be lost. There is something extremely dangerous about a big market team stockpiling top 5 draft picks.

Attendance is down by 400k in the 2 years since Theo took over. Draft picks take a few years to be ready.

We all know that they are in "rebuilding" mode (or at least that is the explanation/strategy) but when you see what they are doing (Letting Sweney and McD play instead of prospects or something? Whata f***?) I see more questions than answers for their future. Theo already has 2 years and sincerely I do not see signals of life in that team. Theo still have 3 years contract (have understood)... Won't be surprised if He doesn't complete it.
